I should have said home screen rather than lock screen, my bad. But is does say Ringer when I adjust it on the home screen and does not increase it for music.

Got it. The ringer volume is on Settings > Sounds & Haptics> Ringer and Alerts
The volume control on the home screen and on the Control Center are the same control and it affects only music and perhaps a few other things like Siri (haven't been able to investigate yet).
You can change this to make it work like deggie's phone by turning ON the "Change with Buttons" option. Then, the two controls will be different - the control on the home screen will affect the ringer and the control on the Control Center will affect music. If you operate the side buttons while the phone is ringing, it will correctly turn the ringer off without regard to the haptics setting.
You can use Control Center and adjust the volume separately for Music.
Mine doesn't say "ringer." It says "volume."
Mine just says volume it doesn’t say ringer at all
I always adjusted mine on the home screen

Ditto.
This is really weird. The 7+ works the way that both of us remember for pre-IOS-11. I have a 7." What do you have?
6s
OK. Your unit is also not a Plus.
Thank you so much. It must have changed when I did the update. Thanks for your help.
Happy to help
Go to settings, sounds.
You can adjust ringer volume there.
You can turn on « change with buttons » and this will allow you to adjust ringer volume with your side buttons.
So this doesn’t fix it. My ios11 doesn’t even have sounds and haptic sand under sounds there is no option to fix this. Can’t find anywhere
Sounds & Haptics is not under Sounds. It’s under Settings.
As stated above,
Settings / Sounds & Haptics
Change with buttons ON
Why can’t we control ringer volume anymore?? !! Only in settings now??!!! UGH!!! PAIN!!!!
iOS 11 ringer volume
