After upgrading to IOS 11, i started to have this exact problem with my iphone 6s in the first minute after upgrade, it only gets normal after restart but after a while it starts to not work again. Sound not going, not coming all calls are completely silent. İ never had this problem until upgrading to IOS 11.

And seing this is also happening to others, its probably a IOS11 6s issue.

Hi,

I have the same problem with my iPhone 7 since upgrading to iOS 11. I upgraded to iOS 11.0.1 yesterday, it didn't fix the issue. It might be related to bluetooth. The first time it happened was after I disconnected my bluetooth headset (Beoplay H9). I and the counterpart made several phone calls. All were completely quiet. No dial tone, I heard nothing and the counterpart heard nothing.

The second time bluetooth was on but I was not connected to a bluetooth source.

This has to be fixed ASAP!

Same here, after updating to iOS 11, and I have done a bit of troubleshooting myself, usually it is just random, when it happens -_-

• I have tried placing a call using the speakers and no luck, dead silence, the call however does go thru.

• I have tried placing a call with my bluetooth off, no luck

• I have tried placing a call using headphones, no luck with sound

• I have tried placing a call with my airpods, no luck

Have also tried restarting all my settings, and no luck, fixed other issues I have had with iOS 11, but this one just annoys me.

I have an iPhone SE and every time I use a set of headphones with a microphone, the microphone doesn’t work, and Siri will pop up constantly without me doing anything. I tried to turn off Siri but now it’s voice control instead. And it’s not only my set. It’s EVERY set of headphones with a microphone. It also will start playing music randomly when I’m listening to music but it will play SUPER fast and it’s pretty scary. And it all started when I updated it to IOS 11. I have resulted to using my old set of headphones without a microphone but please get this fixed! I’m not sure if anyone else is having this problem so I don’t know if it’s just my phone or not. Please help!

I have had this issue, without any fix, for at least a week or two now. The only way I can hear, and speak to, a caller is with my apple watch. I have tried every recommendation that has been mentioned for sound issues like this to no avail. Wired ear buds with mic do not work. Even the speakerphone option is greyed out on my phone.

I have also noticed that:

  • I am not able to record anything in Voice Memo
  • When I try to set up Siri to recognise my voice (after totally resetting my phone), it is as if it is detecting sound/noise and quickly goes to the next step and fails.
  • The Phone Noise Cancellation setting some of mentioned does not exist on my phone

I am running 11.1 on a 6s on Rogers in Canada.

Hey! This worked to me!

Since update, my earpiece stopped to work and I had to use loudspeaker to listen to my counterpart.

I had turned off airdrop, noise cancellation (in accessibility settings) and data roaming (in cell data options inside cellular/telephone settings)

days before (don’t know if it had something to do with this issue, but people said so in another post) and yesterday I followed your instructions:

  • Go to Settings
  • Cellular (in Portuguese, “telephone” in other language I think)
  • Turn off Wi-fi Calls

Turn off the phone

Now I listen who is calling me normally!

Thanks!

****** Apple says it is not a software problem but everyone on this site can't be wrong! In my family, we have 2 iPhone 6s cell phones and one works well and the other you can't hear out of the ear receiver. Callers on the other side can hear me but I cannot hear them. The service provider is Verizon and obviously there is no issue because one phone works perfectly. It may be some defective hardware issues and Apple will not take responsibility.

The defective phone works with headphones and on the speaker.

None of these fixes have worked. Latest update 11.2.1 - All problems started with the 11.0 update

  • I keep both phones updated to latest IOS updates
  • Reset the settings - no help
  • Checked all speakers using various means including recording a message. - Clear recording - no solution
  • Checked incoming and outgoing calls using 2 cell phones and also a landline - no solution -
  • Shut off bluetooth - eliminated all bluetooth devices - no changes
  • Car bluetooth works fine - just like the speakerphone and headphones - both parties can communicate
  • Turned the phone off several times (reboot) - no solution
  • Transferred calls to a good phone using *72 + 10 digit phone number - the good phone picks up call perfectly.

What am I missing? Please help!

I experience similar issue after upgrading to 11.1 – outgoing audio is extremely low.

I contacted Apple Support, they confirmed that they don’t hear me :-) and denied that it’s a software issue.

Then the suggested Settings reset. Didn’t help.

However, I found:
Loudspeaker mode somewhat works. External microphone works.

It is somehow related to the cover (generic thing that doesn’t cover any of the ports or speakers), since when I take it off, it’s way better, when it’s on, the other side can not hear me. Yes, it was on for fourteen days before the iOS 11 upgrade and there was no problem.

Possibly there is an issue with echo/noise cancellation?

Same issue here since latest iO11+ upgrade on iPhone 6.

One thing I have noticed that predicts the issue being present (while making or receiving a cellular call), is that the side volume buttons seem to stop working. At least, the visual doesn't appear on the screen to show what level your speaker is set to. A reboot fixes this and the sound issue. Obviously a software bug.
