If you're tapping the buttons in control center, it's a change whereby tapping the icons drops the current connection but does not shut WiFi (or Bluetooth) off; to do that you have to use the slide toggles in Settings.
This is quite handy as you can disconnect from a current troublesome WiFi network without having to remember to reenable it later.
From the iOS 11 manual for iPhone:
This behavior is also covered in more detail here:
Use Bluetooth and Wi-Fi in Control Center with iOS 11 - Apple Support
It’s not that part of the feature that is annoying. It’s that it turns on itself. I have a work WiFi that is awful. God bless the Army, anyway, I actually don’t want to use it at work, and it turns itself on. If I want it in, I will turn it on. You say it’s sinply and easy, if it’s so simply and easy, leave it off by default and stay off, and I’ll turn it on myself.
Sending here may make you feel better but it won't accomplish anything. And of course you see more people in this thread and on ASC complaining about it, people who are annoyed squeak up, people who are happy with the change (like myself and many others) don't.
You sound like my wife. This is the age old argument of the toilet seat. She asks why I can’t put it down when I’m done pee’ing. I ask why she can’t put it up when she’s done. If I want a feature, I will enable it. I shouldn’t have to disable it because it was forced on me, whether you think it’s good or not! If YOU want it, you should have to turn it on. If I don’t want it, I have to turn it off. Why? Please don’t assume what’s good for you is great for me. That’s not a wise way to navigate life. Anyway, this ranks right up there with not being able to delete Apple’s precious proprietary apps/folders when the iPhone came out. But thanks for trying to assist with solving the problem, oh wait, you didn’t. Like so many people today, you just gave me your opinion and thought I should just accept it.

Ahh, you're both wrong. You should put both the seat and the lid down when you're done to keep the cat from drinking out of the toilet. Also, putting the lid down before flushing decreases the amount of aerosolized fecal matter that ends up on your toothbrush.

It’s TOTALLY UNNECCECARY thing.
You give a chance to hackers to hack my phone!!!
(maybe this is what Apple’s purpose. )
I’m so irritable about this uptate and it’s awkward.
If it's "TOTALLY UNNECCECARY (sic)" , why do I find the need to use it at least once a day?
No, this has nothing to do with hacking. I get that you don't like the change but let's stay out of tinfoil beanie territory.

Now, is that so hard? The last two are even easier than using the Control Center.
There are an astounding number of highly change-averse people in the world. I'm really quite amazed.
Exactly. When something changes, all I want to know is how it now works. I have enough other things going in my life to actually worry about. And since this change is so smart, it certainly didn't make my worry list.
If indeed it so easy as you stated, then leave it off and if “you” want it then YOU can either:
1)go to settings, WiFi, and select on
2) say hey Siri, assuming you’ve enabled that feature
3) turn on WiFi.
You don’t want me to be lazy but you can be. Sums up today’s generation. Thanks for nothing.
So in a perfect world with great WiFi, it’s ok. I work for the Department of Defense. Networks are locked down and can hardly get to Yahoo splash page. So I personally, can’t speak for everyone, will be trying to look something up, it will take forever, and then I remember this “helpful” feature is on. So I have to stop. **** off WiFi, go back, most likely restart the page and/or close internet. Then I have to navigate back to the page, and God forbid I was on page 3 of an application or something that cached information. Then I have to input it all over again. All because most people are cheapskates and don’t have unlimited data so there always looking to mooch off of McD’s or Starbucks. Like Diet food, make me pay more for less. In this case, work extra for a feature you should turn “on” if you want it, not turn “off” if you don’t. That’s just one opinion.
I guess if I used 18 networks it would be nice. I get it. Really. Whomever said earlier what phone I should have clearly doesn’t know what I’ve done in the Army for 25 years. But ok. I get it. You like it. I don’t. This is a McDonalds arguement. I don’t like onions, they inherently come on a Big Mac. I have to ask not to get them. See, I dumbed it down so even I could get it. But I want you to know I use 2 networks. 1 of which *****. If I don’t turn off the WiFi, I forget that Apple turns it back on. So I have to then turn it off cause the Army WiFi *****.
You know what's really surprising about this post?
I've allowed my email to keep receiving the updates on this argument... from my perspective, there were more than 20 people complaining about this new feature in the last 2 weeks. Most of them new users.
And the only ones saying that this is great, this is lovely, this is awesome, are 3 very specific users that are pretty much living here and replying to every comment that disagrees with that, and usually with the same sort of argument as of:
- Your opinion doesn't matter!
- Many people like this feature!
- Why would you want to turn it off anyway?!
- Why don't you buy another phone?
Really, this is, quite frankly, very childish. I believe everyone here has the capability to read and understand each other without jumping at each other throats. If you like it, cool, awesome, but why can't you explain your point of view without trying to offend each other?
Some people, including me, doesn't like this feature (YAY), but still, I've learned that WiFi doesn't consume as much battery as I imagined (great knowledge guys, thank you!), so why can't you just sit back and allow people to tell how they feel about it?
If this forum is about user issues and how you can help them, this also means that if you can't help them you don't need to point out that what they are doing is pointless, even if it is, let people talk, complain, do whatever they feel like. You guys are not moderators here, you don't hold a law on what should be done and how it should be done.
So please, you being level 5, 9, 11, 20 of whatever just mean that you are here longer, but everyone suffers on their own, so what about respecting that?
Thanks for giving us permission to disagree with your ranting. Do not be surprised if we prefer the truth. But, thanks for the effort anyhow.
This is how it works now, take whatever choice you want to, but take one.
I'm not giving you permission for anything, you had it from the beginning, I'm only asking you allow other people to disagree with you, because the way you speak make it look like nobody is allowed to disagree.
And I'm not surprised by anything you say, what is actually surprising me is how you are still very dedicated to reply every single comment on this thread.
Was it you that told me that people had better things to do with their time?
I’ve only figured out 3 things:
1) I’m apparently to dumb to own an iPhone(wasted 10+ years as a Apple user)
2) I’m also to dumb to figure out how to leave this God foresaken post, or I would quit answering.
And 3) people are keeping track of how many times people post, then criticize saying “who has this kind of time on their hands”, yet spend all day answering said posts. . ;-). I hope this is the last one. I bid you farewell and good day. Lol.
1. Count me in also, 6 years only though.
2. I did quit, but forgot to remove the email spam, so...
3. The thing is that it wasn't me that said that in the first place, I just gave this phrase back to the person that used it to illustrate the childish in saying something like that and, yet, replying every answer after it...
But hey, the irony is cool though. 😀
