If you're tapping the buttons in control center, it's a change whereby tapping the icons drops the current connection but does not shut WiFi (or Bluetooth) off; to do that you have to use the slide toggles in Settings.

This is quite handy as you can disconnect from a current troublesome WiFi network without having to remember to reenable it later.

From the iOS 11 manual for iPhone:

This behavior is also covered in more detail here:

Thanks for your stubborn support and yes I have read everything from Apple and obviously I do care

And again.... this is not a place to debate Apple policy or decisions.

You agreed to this when you signed in.

The value of your position is moot. Being right or wrong is moot. You can't sway opinion here. As passionate as you may be, it's futile to continue this conversation.

Apple explicitly does not allow this type of discussion here.

Their yard. Their rules.

The underlying question about this feature has been asked and answered. There is nowhere for this conversation to go now.

They accept constructive criticism at the link below. Not here.

Oh it accomplishes something. It helps you realize how rude and hypocritical you are and maybe you can change your actions in the future by not letting what people say im forums bother you. In short: if you cant be nice and post something contructive, dont say anything at all. That would be best for you and everyone else. YOUR WELCOME!!

Well, it's certainly been amusing. 😉

I

have to admit that I'm still in shock. The complaint is that the iPhone operates exactly as described in the iPhone User Guide! Amazing.

Surely iph has to operate

exactly as described in the iPhone User Guide! Every time it comes with a new frature it must be discribe in a user guide, but that is not the point here

The compaint is that iphone changes the function of the wifi icon in the center control, where as in former IOS it was just FINE for most of us iph users, to turn wifi on and off . Just a few of iph users has a whole house stuffed with lots of apple devices

But yes, I understand now that this forum is not the place for suggests or compaints, since apple itself is not precence here...

Thats why we got amazing discustions here, indeed...

I am not sure what you expect to gain here.

You and many others, “made your case” quite some time ago.

You don’t like the change. You feel Apple has made a mistake. Some of you may switch phones as a result.

Point taken.

Can we stop now? As strongly as you made your case, we made ours.

Nobody here can change it back.

The proper link for feedback has been given. Repeatedly.

have no idea why you would even want a one touch operations to make a permanent settings change.

Pls read previous threads

And that's what we've suggested you do. Why you're continuing this campaign is a mystery? As LACAllen pointed out, this discussion is pointless. Arguing here with other users over a feature Apple implemented get's you nothing. Nadda. Zip. Take your concerns to Apple.

I havr the same problem! After I disconnect from my wireless lan in the night, in the morning I find my phone connected. I consider this problem a user safety violation! I sleep with my phone next to my head. It s not normal to have non stop wi fi radio going trough my brain. Please resolve problem with a bug fix update. Best regards. Still an iphone fan :) keep up the good work!

Yes, these days, it pretty much is. And, there has been no increase in brain cancer coincident with the mass adoption of cell phones.

Maybe "user safety violation" is a bit to overrated, but my qustion to you is: Why complicate thing and not make them smarter and easy to use. Why would anyone want to make the same operation twice for the same result(wifi off main screen -> still on in settings(scan network for nothing)= battery drain for nothing, wifi module still ON ..."ironically, it's totally unnecessary to turn it off."NOT ! :/) WHY ? still an apple fan. PS: we have waited 4 5 years data trafic on-off on the main menu slide shortcut..Fascinating... 🙂 no offens. Best regards, Philly .

It is smarter. Settings > WiFi > OFF

What in the world are you talking about?

Power consumption is pretty much zero. Here's an education for you.

Again, what in the world are you talking about?

Imagine how stupid people are who can't figure out how the four ways to turn off Wi-Fi conpletely despite this thread that explains it umpteen times, or the the manual the explains it, or Apple's help articles that explain it, and who haven't thought to contact Apple support and ask. In the same category as anyone who believes in radiation poisoning from non-ionizing radiation. Probably also believe the earth is flat and the Sun goes around the earth. And alien abductions.

They'd have to proof they are sensitive to microwaves. Good luck with that! Double blind studies have failed to show any ability of individuals to detect "radiation" at levels greater than chance.

What people are susceptible to is media reports that "wifi sensitivity" is a real thing:

Are media warnings about the adverse health effects of modern life self-fulfilling? An experimental study on idiopathic …

This crap is happening to me & I don’t realize it many times. I would notice my connection is slower than normal & then I would check & see the WiFi has been enabled & I am connected to an Ap that I may have used temporarily.

Apple this is very careless on your part. Yesterday I didn’t realize it was on & it connected to a public AP, the next day my Bank account was hacked. They logged in and cleared out my account & changed my password & the name under my account. If you are aware things like packet sniffing to grab private data is possible why would this be a great idea to you Apple. Help me understand?
