iPhone not getting text notifications

Since upgrading to iOS 11, my iPhone 5S no longer makes a sound or displays a notification on my locked screen when I receive a text message.

I've checked that "Do Not Disturb" is turned off, and that the sound mute button is not turned on. I also checked in Settings / Sounds and I have a sound selected for Text Messages.

When I get a text message, the only way I know I got it is if I click on the home button to start up the display. In addition to not making any sound, the text message doesn't even light up my phone display when I get it, but if I click on the Home button to turn on the screen, I can see the notification.

This is a bit of problem, I depend on text messages quite a bit in my job and now I have no idea if I'm getting a text message unless I keep checking my phone. How do I fix this, or is this a bug in iOS 11?

The reason why a reboot works is because it also turns off BT. See my post below. ANYTHING that toggles BT will restore the sounds etc.

My very old iPad rings through on the texts, but not my iPhone!! Unbelievable!!! I hear my iPad notifying me from the other room, but my iPhone does not notify me.

Yes, I have the problem also. 11.2.6 - iPhone 7.

Turning bluetooth off completely in the settings allows the messages on the lock screen to chime; otherwise they are silent.

Will lodge a bug report.

I was at the Apple Store today.... spoke to a rep that I know. He’s been testing 11.3 as a beta and so far, no problems. Should be released next week or so.

Was having the same problem. Go into settings and make sure "do not disturb" is turned off.

Just fixed this problem by turning off the do not disturb setting (the little moon icon hen you swipe upwards)

I agree. Whilst I haven't checked 11.3 yet the device I had the issues on did not have Do Not Disturb turned on. The issue went away when I switched Bluetooth off. With testing this was repeatable.

I have given up. Apple needs to fix the problem and train their employees. If not, Apple will be losing a lot if customers.
