Same old, same old for me. Have Verizon iPhone. Apple Advisor said my battery was low and needed replacing. Verizon tech who uses iPhones said there are scads of people coming in with all the same issues: ringtones gone for good, voicemail can't get set up, batteries drain as fast as 1 hour, Apple Mail icon does not respond at all, etc, ad nauseam. Verizon said Apple will need to send out a patch and hope it works while they try to figure out how to update. Or everyone with this problem will have to upgrade to a new iPhone, And that rep did not look very happy about it. So I can't wait with all those things wrong and not reparable. Have to get a new iPhone 8 that apparently works with 11 but the only reason it is not an Android or whatever Google has is that my other devices are all Apple: iMac, iPad. There is something rotten in the state of Apple when the consumers have to pay for the business not having heeded the old wisdom that haste makes waste.
I found this post on another stream and it worked for me!
“ I might be wrong, but this could be because of how iTunes has just changed. If you go into Sounds & Haptics and for example go to text tone, you see at the top it’ll say “download all purchased tones” have you tried that?“
Hi everyone,
this worked for me. I searched for my ringtones on my MacBook, and dragged them all onto the desktop (all .m4r files). Then I connected my phone to my MacBook, and manually dragged each file onto the phone icon in iTunes. Now all my ringtones are back and working. This might work for sone of you.
cheers
Karen
I have the same problem with my purchased ringtones, but interestingly enough my purchased text/tones are working. This is driving me batty..... (Not to mention the "freezing" is getting reaaaaaal old, reaaaaal fast.).
This has been "broken" for almost two weeks now. I haven't done the latest patch11.02 (I'm a tad leery, wonder why), but it seems like that hasn't fixed it for anyone else.... True?
This didn't work for me because the iTunes store doesn't recognize that I've already purchased the ringtones. I'm not paying for them again because reloading them from my laptop didn't work, so I expect it won't let me over write the ones on the phone. And there's no way to delete the old ones on the phone.
Yes, mine do... they actually play on my phone when i go under contacts and check the ringtone but... it goes to my default and does not play the ringtone that I have set for the person of contact. I am so mad at Apple right now.
So, I had the same problem ever since updating to IOS 11. I tried all the solutions suggested and nothing worked. I gave up about two weeks ago. They still didn’t work after 11.0.2 but, I figure an update would be the only viable solution. Today, they just started working. Someone called me that had always been assigned a purchased ringtone. From the first day after the update until yesterday, a normal default ringtone played when she called. Today, my purchased ringtone played when she called. I know that’s not much help to everyone else. But, I guess, the issue is being addressed. Unfortunately, the only advice I can offer to mimic my successful fix is... wait.
Saw this morning that Apple had released the iOS 11.0.3 update with "audio and haptic feedback fixes". Sounded promising to address the ringtone issue, so I installed the update and... NO JOY! The problem still exists.
Apple is CLEARLY monitoring this community discussion - How about an acknowledgment of the problem and a commitment to fix it? 😠😠😠
Same here. Iphone7 - 128Gb.
11.03 didnt solve this issue.
Also tried to reboot phone, changed ringtone, changed back.
Nope, didnt help. Screamed.
Since 3GS i have had all released iphone models. And this IOS 11 is the worst experience as an apple consumer I ever had.
I just reached out to an Apple Senior Advisor with whom I worked on another product issue, and he said that this is, in fact, a known reported issue that is currently under investigation by their engineering team. He didn't have an ETA on the fix, but advised keeping the phone software updated.
I suggested that having an Apple representative on the forum to provide that kind of information would be really valuable in terms of customer goodwill. We'll see whether they take that suggestion.... ;-)
I've gone to iTunes numerous times trying to delete the tones and I can't do anything with them. They are checked and I can't un-check them, I can't delete them. All I can do is reset them and this does nothing as it relates to getting the tones to work on the phone. If anyone can tell me how to delete them from iTunes I'd appreciate it.
Thanks @ritchiescritch. My ringtone was not listed on my iPad so it was defaulting to “default” and assume overriding the ringtone on my iPhone. I downloaded my ringtone to my iPad (free if already downloaded) and I clicked “use as default ringtone” when asked. It worked! My iPhone now rings with my purchased ringtone!
Downloaded ios 11.0.3, rebooted my iPhone6. Still cannot delete purchased ringtones from iTunes 12.7. Repurchased the ringtone. Re-downloaded. Still doesn't work. I've spent way too much time on this. My cell phone contract is up very soon. Usually, I automatically opt for the next iPhone. This time I will shop around. I own several Macs as well and have experienced similar quality control degradations, although Sierra runs better than its recent predecessors. Here, iTunes seems to be part of the issue. It's harder to replace a Mac, but I'm keeping an open mind. Having been an Apple user and fan for 30 years, my loyalty doesn't have the same foundation that it once did. Was it all Steve? Sorry for the non-productive post, but maybe someone at Apple is watching.
I’m with you. I’ve done everything suggested and I’m still stuck on the Apple default ringtone. I also can’t access my tones on iTunes. This is a nightmare. I have 3 months left and if it is not corrected by then I’ll be an Android user.
I just fixed it by connecting my phone to iTunes via my pc, then select Tones and delete all the purchased ringtones, sync your phone so they are removed from your phone then go to the ringtones selection menu in settings on your phone and select the ‘download purchased ringtones’ option and when they have downloaded back onto your phone, they should work.
