In our case, when we couldn't get either of the two previously purchased ringtones to work on my wife's phone, she purchased a new one It is stored at the top of the list as you describe, and it actually can be selected and works. The two previously purchased tones can be selected and previewed, but when selected, incoming calls still use Opening. Software is supposed to be deterministic - this clearly isn't.
Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
I found this post on another stream and it worked for me!
“ I might be wrong, but this could be because of how iTunes has just changed. If you go into Sounds & Haptics and for example go to text tone, you see at the top it’ll say “download all purchased tones” have you tried that?“
yes indeed, except that I've done a full restore, iphone6 as new iPhone, using backup from iTunes made before installation of iOS 11--11.0.1 and it still does not work. None of my own ringtones, the default Mail app gets only a white screen, some programs/apps have lost some functionality, the battery life is minimal and the phone heats up when being used. the Senior Advisor at Apple led me through all the stuff I'd already tried and of course: zip results. When I suggested, as I had read online, that the Certificate for mail may be the problem (developers had substituted their own and the problems disappeared), suddenly I was "disconnected". And although they have my email address and as default posted that they would send me the chat record, nobody has written back and that record has just disalppeared into the cyber vapors.
Steve would not have wanted Apple to become just like Microsoft but it has. What a huge loss.
That would be excellent - thanks for the update! The first step to resolve the issue is to acknowledge that it exists. According to the "genius" I spoke with earlier this week, this wasn't a problem in his problem DB.
Right. I wonder why the Senior Advisor with whom I worked on this for two hours online yesterday has no inkling that anyone in Apple knew diddlysquat about this. I hope that they do now. But what do we accept? If this were a car, it would be a lemon and under the lemon laws, returnable. This problem, that Apple yesterday did/didn’t know about is not an isolated event and Apple should be able to do better. And in the meantime until their engineers figure this snafu out, my phone won’t do mail via Apple’s app, all the ringtones I created exist no more, some other apps don’t work, and nobody from Apple has said, hey, we dropped the ball and the chat, let’s continue. I think that used to be called customer service. Bottom line for Apple now: once burnt, twice shy.
I having the same problem. This is very frustrating. I should have known not to update my phone. It was working fine on 10.3.3. Anyone know of a way to back out this update and go back to iOS 10? I don't want to put iTunes on my PC as I no longer trust Apple's software.
I have the same problem. I can review the ringtones and hear them fine. Once selected as the default ringtone or as an assigned ringtone for a contact, it plays the standard Apple ringtone. I purchased my ringtone from iTunes.
This really *****. I wish Apple would do something to remedy the situation. I tried deleting them from my phone and redownloading then as per CaptScott’s advice to no avail. Nothing seems to resolve the issue.
We are exactly on the same boat my friend. I am beginning to hate Apple....why the heck they released ios 11 with so many glitches so they can sell more of their 8s and Xs? More of a downgrade, not an upgrade.
Amen! Someone at Apple has forgotten who Apple has been: THE reliable full service computing consumer companion. No more! Someone who is bent on short trrm gain has fractured that identity and undermined all the goodwill and trust on which Apple built its success. The strategic value was: easily available , digitally safe and healthy-keeping the engineers away like an apple a day keeps the doctors away. It takes years to build such trust but only one ios11 to destroy it. With this the executive(s) who pushed out 11 prematurely have lost a lot more than just some repair time. No now they should not be known as Apple. Lemon would fit much better. And they arei no longer safe but snafu. More than fixing ios11 Apple/Lemon needs to make directnamends to their consumers and take right action to clean up their thinking.
I fixed it! I went to iTunes and purchased the same ringtones again (I have several assigned to certain contacts) anyway, good news! #1. iTunes recognized that I already purchased the ringtone and did not charge me for it a second time. #2. After they all re-downloaded they started working again. HOWEVER now in my sounds list they all appear twice. Also, after the first one downloaded when I opened up “sounds” before I see the tones There is a heading/link in blue that says “Tone Store” and below that another blue link that says “download purchased tones”
I also have duplicate ringtones on my phone and non of them work. On iTunes I see one version of the
"tone" with the correct name and a duplicate with a numeric name that I cannot change.
I also cannot delete any of the tones.
Same exact situation for me: ringtones are on my phone; download purchased tones spins. I tried resetting my husband's ringtone to something other than the default which works if I choose one of Apple's ringtones, but it goes back to the default when I set it to one of my purchased ones...the one I purchased just for him. HEY APPLE, UNF***K THIS!
I’ve tried that, repurchasing my ring/text tone, only to be charged again and STILL not work! Talk about frustrating!! Now, I cannot get ANY text tone to work, so my phone only vibrates when a text comes across! I am angry, to say the least!!! Any suggestions, anyone have any other solution that worked?!?!
Since IOS 11 was released my Iphone 7 refuse to use my purchased ringtones. What ever I do it only uses the default ringtone.
Updated to iOS 11.02 and.. no change.
Downloaded the ringtones again and again. Still same issue. I can play my purchased ringtones, but phone refuse to use them when somebody calls.
Getting really frustrated about this.
We are all at the mercy of the apple engineers/genuises. To my mind, early release of the ios 11 was not well thought nor tested. Their reputation is going diwn the drain.
I am still waiting for the senior advisor’s call on the fix. Meantime, we are all hepless.
I just hope somebody here who has a legal mind can help us.
I have the same problem and have not found a solution (think we may need to wait for a software update), but I discovered that you can at least select a different ringtone from the ones that come with the iPhone...anything is better than the marimba tone!!! And the one that you select will work...
iOS 11 update ringtones purchased not working
