Is anyone else having issues with auto brightness in iOS 11?! Since I updated to 11, this feature barely works now! I’ll be in bright lights and it’s very dim. And in darkness, it gets way too dark. I saw multiple pages mentioning this in a Google search, though the problem there was that this has been going on ever since the betas were out for iOS 11 it sounds like.
I had the same issue. I realized that for some reason the zoom function was on. I know this should not have anything to do with brightness but when I turned zoom off, the screen got brighter and now I can even see the display in the sun.
Also, just for kicks, I turned on zoom and the screen stayed bright. Obviously a glitch but took me days to find.
zoom: Settings/General/Accessibility/zoom/toggle off or on.

I wondered this also as I the new iPhone 8 Plus, already been replaced once due to auto-dimming problems when auto brightness, true tone etc are all switched off. I therefore thought my tempered glass screen protector may be covering some sensor somewhere so I removed the screen protector. This didn't make a difference. I am now on my second iPhone 8 Plus (replaced under warranty) and AGAIN have the screen dimming issue with all the relevant settings turned off! I am also experiencing that the screens brightness defaults to 0% when I restart my phone and I struggle to see the control Centre to turn the brightness up again. So frustrating!
I agree with those of you that are experiencing the brightness on your iPhones going dim on it’s own ever since the new upgrades came out after IPhone 8 and 10.
I have experienced several issues including freezing up when sending pictures during a texting..
It’s been one thing after another and of course when calling Apple or ATT it’s nothing but finger pointing.
I’m ready to jump on the bandwagon with the others that filed lawsuits against Apple. Too many bugs with there untested software updates.

I found the solution to my iphone’s dim problem.
Go to Settings/General/Accessibility.
Turn off Zoom.
Reboot your phone.
