Smart Keyboard not working since ios11.

Prior to ios11, the Keyboard was throwing up intermittent annoying warning messages saying it was an unsupported device, but since ios11, it is not even detected. I have tried reboot both with it connected and not connected. Can anyone help please?

Hi francis efromwakefield,

I understand that you've recently been having trouble with your Smart Keyboard connecting to your iPad Pro. It sounds like this started prior to updating and since updating the iPad is unable to detect the keyboard at all. I know it's important to be able to depend on your accessories and I'd like to help. You mention you've tried restarting the iPad with the keyboard attached and not attached, however the Smart Keyboard and iPad Pro need to be in the "Type" position when you perform this step. I'd recommend reviewing the following information:

If your iPad Pro doesn't detect your Smart Keyboard or you see an "Accessory not supported" alert on your iPad Pro, make sure there's no debris or plastic covering on the Smart Connector pins on the keyboard or the Smart Connector on the iPad Pro. Also, try these steps:

  1. Make sure that your iPad Pro and Smart Keyboard are in the Type position.
  2. Remove the Smart Keyboard from your iPad Pro.
  3. Restart your iPad Pro.
  4. Reconnect the Smart Keyboard.
Use your Smart Keyboard with iPad Pro

If you've followed those exact steps and you don't see anything that could be blocking the Smart Connector pins, are you able to test the Smart Keyboard with a different iPad?

Best Regards.

After 4 keyboards i found that trick to work also...BUT i had to do that at EVERY COFFEE SHOP I WENT TO...over and through all the steps As nothing else worked...until i upgraded to 11.3 and now it’s working fine. I had my rep working with developers as they knew about this WiFi issue, the switching back and forth. Even my phone / maps seems to stall with apps after i leave WiFi in a coffee shop, so it must be the shift in WiFi to not...but you’re saying you did the recent upgrade last month and still have an issue?

This is a problem with our organization as well since IOS 11 on iPad pro 9.7. This happens with the Logitech smart keyboards too. They are connected via the clean smart connectors. We are a buisness so when it happens I have plenty of iPads and Logitech smart keyboards to try. Its never the keyboard. Same iPad with the issue on multiple keyboards experience the same issue. Only the screen lock and home buttons at the top of the keyboard work, nothing else. Powering off the iPad and then powering it back on resolves the issue for an unknown amount of time.

Hopefully apple bots read these types of threads and use them as input. I think they were going to focus more on reliability in the next few IOS releases instead of features. I hope thats true because the last few IOS releases have been a dozy, especially for our fleet of iPhones.

There appears to be 2 issues. One is software, the other hardware. I suppose some people may have both.

I have a replacement keyboard, which has pretty much fixed the problem. However, I still have fairly frequent times when it is not connected correctly (much less than before). To reconnect, I rock the iPad forwards, then back to its normal position. I find that the on-screen software keyboard disappears and I can type normally.

Witht the replacement keyboard, the loss of connection mostly happens when I am sitting with the iPad/Keyboard on my knee. If I have it on a hard surface (table) then it is usually ok and if it isn’t, then one rock forward/back will fix it.

On my first keyboard, I noticed that the 3 connecting pins were not level. When I got the replacement, I noticed that these pins were level. They appear to have shifted a bit now, so that they are very very slightly uneven. (I‘m talking fractions).

After months of non working keyboards or sporadic smart keyboards working I finally got back to the USA - stopped at Apple Store ( Encantada Tucson ) and within 5 minutes they had issue diagnosed. Faulty iPad Pro gen 2 - luckily 79 days still in warranty so they replaced the iPad .

This store has always been the best when ever a apple problem cops up - so after all the keyboard hoopla it turned out to be a pad issue !!

Anyway finally resolved !
