Smart Keyboard not working since ios11.

Prior to ios11, the Keyboard was throwing up intermittent annoying warning messages saying it was an unsupported device, but since ios11, it is not even detected. I have tried reboot both with it connected and not connected. Can anyone help please?

Hi francis efromwakefield,

I understand that you've recently been having trouble with your Smart Keyboard connecting to your iPad Pro. It sounds like this started prior to updating and since updating the iPad is unable to detect the keyboard at all. I know it's important to be able to depend on your accessories and I'd like to help. You mention you've tried restarting the iPad with the keyboard attached and not attached, however the Smart Keyboard and iPad Pro need to be in the "Type" position when you perform this step. I'd recommend reviewing the following information:

If your iPad Pro doesn't detect your Smart Keyboard or you see an "Accessory not supported" alert on your iPad Pro, make sure there's no debris or plastic covering on the Smart Connector pins on the keyboard or the Smart Connector on the iPad Pro. Also, try these steps:

  1. Make sure that your iPad Pro and Smart Keyboard are in the Type position.
  2. Remove the Smart Keyboard from your iPad Pro.
  3. Restart your iPad Pro.
  4. Reconnect the Smart Keyboard.
Use your Smart Keyboard with iPad Pro

If you've followed those exact steps and you don't see anything that could be blocking the Smart Connector pins, are you able to test the Smart Keyboard with a different iPad?

Best Regards.

I also have this problem. Started about 3 months ago and slowly getting more and more prevalent. Actually typing by screen at the moment.

Now keyboard works again.

Then we have the constant beeping when the case is closed as if the iPad is charging and disconnecting constantly.

Really not good enough for an Apple product.

And now its disconnected again and back to screen.

I FOUND ANOTHER KEY...the guys at apple genius were playing on my 4th keyboard and found that it works AFTER i hit “command“ and then space bar, bringing up some page i forgot what they called it, and i tried to type and still couldn’t but when i hit CANCEL and then tried to type on pages, it worked. Spread it to others and see if it helps. Mine has been working like this for several days, which is shorter than having to shut down a bunch. Its’ not going to help the issues of a connection not being right at the magnet port.

Hello,

I had exactly the same problem. I went to the Apple Store (in Palo Alto, CA), and they checked the keyboard with another iPad, and my keyboard (the one not working anymore) with an iPad from the store. The result was that the keyboard was causing the problem, and they replaced it free if charge. It looks like a known problem, so go to you Apple Store and make an appointment at the Genius bar.

Best,

Roland

I have been having the same problems using iOS 11.3. Device Not Supported.... sometimes not even recognizing keyboard, etc. I had tried all of the cleaning, hard restart (etc.) ideas here and nothing worked. However, after reading a post here regarding wifi Connections, i decided to turn off wifi with keyboard unattached. Then with wifi off, I attached keyboard and then went to Settings and turned wifi back on... voila! I am using the keyboard to type this response. Don’t know how long this will solve the problem... and can’t imagine why turning wifi on and off made a difference, but it did. I was worried that this was a hardware issue. Thankfully it was not. I suppose this is some software issue that Apple has... wish they would address it... or at least address what are the “official” fixes to the problem. Hope this helps someone else.
