Weather widget not working on ios 11

Hi,

I have an iphone 7 plus. Since ios 11, the weather widget doesnt update at all. The weather app is not working fine either, I changed the location settings to only when you open the app, I tried also 'always on' but then that little arrow icon appears all the time in the top bar, so I refused.

With the location switch on 'when use the app' the widget should update if I open the app, but It doesnt. Sometimes the app itself doesnt update location or weather conditions.

Am I the only one?!?!

Hello to all who are having problems with the Weather App not working or having it not automatically load your weather conditions, when you launch the Weather App. An error is displayed telling you that the data cannot be “ Loaded.”

I‘ve seen this problem on iPhone and iPad devices and is very easy to fix.

Enter.... <Settings>…<Privacy>…<Location Services>

Enable.... “Location Services” to ON !!!

...then...

Enter.... <Weather> (scroll down the screen)

Enable.... “Allow Location Access” to ALWAYS !!!

...then...

Exit out of settings and goto your main desktop.

REBOOT your iPhone or iPad... totally shutting it down (hold the side or top power button on your device for 6+ seconds... then slide the icon button to “Power Off”).

...NOTE... You MUST power down your device in order for this to work.

Power up your device (press the top or side power button). Give your device a full minute to fully boot and establish a Cell or Wifi lock, enabling the Locations protocol to sync to your location.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Just this minute tried both devices and they updated immediately, the iPad didn't this morning and not having time to do the usual faffing around just left it - noticed when login into devices I am now seeing the Location Services arrow on a more regular basis, whether that will last or in fact it has any relevance I'm not sure.

Was wondering the other day why this post hasn't got any bigger than the 14 pages if this is indeed a bigger issue, but if the majority are like mine, may be for some it's going totally unnoticed!

That's exactly my experience, but what's behind this odd "delay" and why does it only happen on some occasions. A weather app requires constant info so it can change to reflect latest predications, in the UK it's quite common for the band of rain predicted for the afternoon in the early morning forecast to move forward to late morning over the space of a few hours, an app that doesn't track that change adequately can result in getting caught out!

Luckily the app still does track changes but as we've seen the widget sometimes "drops the ball".

Still can't figure if the lack of immediate update is linked to certain times of the day (server related) or whether once updated the widget requires a certain amount of time to pass before it tries again (a sort of in build timer preventing frequent info requests) - or is the Notification Center some how failing to trigger updates occassionally when opened for some reason (in other words a deeper issue within the OS).

I’ve found a third party application affected by the Localization issue.

Autoscout24, used for searching used cars, has some difficulties when you use zip code of your area to search cars and in some specific cases, a pop up advice that, due to localization problems it is not possible to have all details of tha car found.

This is not a problem of tha application because I’ve tested it on my wife’s iPhone, apparently one of the few iPhone without localization problems!

Are you saying it's the App or it's Widget (if it has one) that has the issue on your phone, if it's the App I don't think I've had that happen yet. I say "think" because all my Apps using location services that fix your position, like Maps, The Weather Channel or Redshift have worked fine to date, the only thing I've notices sometimes is when opening the App Store I might see "Try Again", this doesn't usually happen for the iTunes Store when tried at the same time, plus on retrying it then works. Thought it just could be Apple having trouble with the numbers trying to access there service but not sure now, could it be a "location" connected problem.

ps. By the way, this morning both devices updated the Widget straight away, last night the iPhone wouldn't - just the opposite to the previous day! If one device updates and the other doesn't would think that rules out the server being the problem,

If the reports are true with regards to delaying "new" features so they can concentrate on getting the current "mix" working 100%, then I believe we should be grateful they are finally seeing the reality of the situation. I've long considered Apple has been spread too thin with all the new devices being released and it's shown in some silly errors getting through the net, bugs that were fixed previously reappearing in future updates have been common on both iOS and macOS which luckily are still few, but draws your focus and takes the shine off using the system.

The biggest issue for me has been how their services have worked (or not as the case may be), I've had glitches with Messages syncing, Podcasts updating, Mail, Handoff and iCloud Photo Library at some time or the other, sometimes getting so fed up I turned off that process or used another App until it finally got resolved.

If Apple really do spend time consolidating what they currently provide they probably won't win any points from those always looking for the next new thing, but I would think seasoned users will jump for joy.

For work purposes, on two different occasions I engaged Apple’s two-factor authentication, attempting to integrate Apple and MS Outlook calendars, and both times none of my Apple devices would authenticate the others — long stories. Both attempts resulted in a laborious process of completely re-setting my iCloud account just to return to baseline functioning.

All the Apple software problems that I described earlier feel like the awful institutional silo or stovepipe problem with which I am familiar from my own profession. Divisions or departments develop projects up their own chain of authority without adequate integrative oversight.

...the result maybe of getting too big and/or lack of a single point of contact for coordination, who has ultimate sanction on what goes (could that be describing SJ).

That's a couple of days then, see how it goes over this weekend and please give us an update, would be nice to hear 11.3 might be the answer.

I'm still on 11.2.5 and nothing much has changed, it (in the UK) usually "sticks" in mornings and evenings (not sure why), but if left open takes couple of minutes then updates, the rest of the day it's fine and updates immediately.
