Weather widget not working on ios 11

Hi,

I have an iphone 7 plus. Since ios 11, the weather widget doesnt update at all. The weather app is not working fine either, I changed the location settings to only when you open the app, I tried also 'always on' but then that little arrow icon appears all the time in the top bar, so I refused.

With the location switch on 'when use the app' the widget should update if I open the app, but It doesnt. Sometimes the app itself doesnt update location or weather conditions.

Am I the only one?!?!

I am having the same problem on my 8+

I've got my location services set to always and the widget just doesn't update. If I tap on it and it brings up the main weather screen that's accurate but the temp on the widget doesn't change unless I reboot.

What is really strange is the fact that it works just fine on my wife's iPhone 6s.

Her iPhone is also updated with latest iOS 11.1.1 and the widget always worked for her with no issue.

So where is the problem then? Why would it work on some phones while not on others. I would not like to reset my phone totaly to factory settings to see if it works on a clean one as it is a lot of wasted time but I am just curious if that would change anything. Anyone of you maybe checked that?

In iOS 10 the weather widget did not need the location services active to update...

Even with location services ‘always on’ for weather app, the widget doesn’t update at the same time of the app, so most of the times the temperatures of the app and the widget do not match...

obviously something is wrong... it’s like there are two different apps...

Thanks, delete and reinstall appears to have fixed issue for me as well. This issue is strange, only happened on iPhone X and not iPad Mini 2 and think it started with last update, which ironically I didn’t really need because didn’t have problem that was trying to resolve!

Just for others, my Weather Notification wasn’t completely none responsive, it sometimes updated but other times it just seemed “stuck” and would remain like that for hours. Removing Weather from Notification Centre and then add it back would force it to update but that didn’t last.

Will report back in a few days but so far all ok, I now notice when opening Notification Centre that the Weather Widget "blinks" slightly as though it's checking for latest info, this didn't happen before the reinstall.

Just a general observation, I've always been a firm believer of doing any iOS update via iTunes, which installs the complete OS followed by importing your chosen BackUp, it's just given less issues than doing the "Over the Air" method. This time with the new iPhone I let it update itself (twice) which with hindsight could have been a mistake, my iPad which was done via iTunes hasn't shown such issue regarding the Weather widget.

I haven't read the entire post yet but you could try (if still having issues) restoring your device via iTunes and bring back your settings by importing a BackUp (just make sure it's an encrypted BackUp because that contains most info).

Lastly, when reinstalling Weather app earlier I didn't delete via Home screen but instead went to Settings/iPhone Storage and removed it from there - not sure if that makes any difference or not.

Hi Folks,

Been at this since 11.0:

Reset all settings

Uninstall / reinstall app

Wipe phone clean

Tried everything I could think of

No permanent fix: updates did work for a short time, after each fix, but non-updating (usually tempature, sometimes location) returned.

The anything unusual I noticed in all these processes, when resetting the settings and uninstalling and reinstalling installing the app, was with the Apple Watch, which no longer would show the weather. The watch app on the phone woushow the weather app as installed, but the watch showed it not installed. Watch and phone had to be re-paired.

I did report. With screenshots and everything.

Lets hope others do same so issue gets elevated, if Apple are aware they usually respond by replying that the Bug Report is a duplicate of another, or they can request additional info if it's new to them - hopefully they won't ignore! I'll feed back how the Restore (done for other reasons as well) goes but drjrw reports that was tried already so don't hold much hope.

Just can’t seem to solve this from my end. Most recently I reset all settings along with installing and reinstalling the app. This produced about 12 hours of working widget and then today as the day warmed to 64* the widget remained stuck on the 27* from the early morning. Very odd.

The only thing I have not tried is a wipe-clean and restore as new phone rather than from a backup. It just seems like too much work for this size problem, which Apple should fix on its own, I reckon.

So far the Restore (with BackUp) is working, kind of, the weather updates but sometimes it takes a while, I've moved it down the order (ie at the bottom) on the Notifications screen to try and give it extra time to update itself from opening the display, not sure if that makes any real difference or not. Also, to enter Notifications once unlocked I do a right-flick from the left side of screen (one less step and easier to reach than using top left).

Not going to mess about much longer with this issue, done a search last night and found half a dozen sites reporting this and giving ways to try and resolve (all having been discussed here), and it appears to be effecting a wide variety of devices witch may kick Apple into action sooner than later hopefully.

Just to confirm no improvement with Restore (as expected) so suppose it's all down to Apple! The weather info partially updates but as stated previously the headline temp and "temp now" get stuck, they only update sometime later usually following several attempts opening Notification Centre, which defeats the object regarding faster access - easier and quicker to just open the App.

Hello to all who are having problems with the Weather App not working or having it not automatically load your weather conditions, when you launch the Weather App. An error is displayed telling you that the data cannot be “ Loaded.”

I‘ve seen this problem on iPhone and iPad devices and is very easy to fix.

Enter.... <Settings>…<Privacy>…<Location Services>

Enable.... “Location Services” to ON !!!

...then...

Enter.... <Weather> (scroll down the screen)

Enable.... “Allow Location Access” to ALWAYS !!!

...then...

Exit out of settings and goto your main desktop.

REBOOT your iPhone or iPad... totally shutting it down (hold the side or top power button on your device for 6+ seconds... then slide the icon button to “Power Off”).

...NOTE... You MUST power down your device in order for this to work.

Power up your device (press the top or side power button). Give your device a full minute to fully boot and establish a Cell or Wifi lock, enabling the Locations protocol to sync to your location.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Thanks for your help; hope it helps. For me this early solution, along with, successively, resetting all settings / uninstall and reinstall / wipe clean the entire phone, and so on, has produced a fix lasting no more than about 12 hours. It’s an Apple problem, it seems, that I’m hoping is solved with 11.2, but I’m not sanguine about that, given Apple’s response to the problem beginning with 11.0.

Has anyone else noticed that the Weather Widget appears to be working better over the last week, it's still not perfect but the success rate of the widget updating when opened seems to be increasing, also the speed it does it appears to be linked to the time of day!

I've noticed late evening when opened it updates immediately now, likewise for early morning, during the day it can still be "sluggish" but if left open it updates after a minute - could all this point to servers being behind the issue and the reason why it's been so variable in nature (ie. geography linked, some not even reporting any issue), that would also explain why no fix has been released yet via updates because it basically has to be resolved at Apple's end.

Just a thought.

After every attempted fix, from the simple to the more complex, such as wiping the phone clean, the weather widget always misbehaves the same way for me: it works for a while — 3 or 4 hours — and then stops updating at all. It’s odd not only that none of us can fix this, but that the bug is slighdifferent from phone to phone.
