Weather widget not working on ios 11

Hi,

I have an iphone 7 plus. Since ios 11, the weather widget doesnt update at all. The weather app is not working fine either, I changed the location settings to only when you open the app, I tried also 'always on' but then that little arrow icon appears all the time in the top bar, so I refused.

With the location switch on 'when use the app' the widget should update if I open the app, but It doesnt. Sometimes the app itself doesnt update location or weather conditions.

Am I the only one?!?!

Hello to all who are having problems with the Weather App not working or having it not automatically load your weather conditions, when you launch the Weather App. An error is displayed telling you that the data cannot be “ Loaded.”

I‘ve seen this problem on iPhone and iPad devices and is very easy to fix.

Enter.... <Settings>…<Privacy>…<Location Services>

Enable.... “Location Services” to ON !!!

...then...

Enter.... <Weather> (scroll down the screen)

Enable.... “Allow Location Access” to ALWAYS !!!

...then...

Exit out of settings and goto your main desktop.

REBOOT your iPhone or iPad... totally shutting it down (hold the side or top power button on your device for 6+ seconds... then slide the icon button to “Power Off”).

...NOTE... You MUST power down your device in order for this to work.

Power up your device (press the top or side power button). Give your device a full minute to fully boot and establish a Cell or Wifi lock, enabling the Locations protocol to sync to your location.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Just for the record I've had one of those "times", it was about 04.00 hrs (UK), on both iPad and iPhone the Weather Widget just kept refusing to update again - and not just the temps but also the hours (think the "Now" was stuck on 22.00 hrs. This went on for a good 10 minutes while I kept messing around switching between devices and opening Weather and News Apps until finally the Widget updated, funnily enough again on both devices.

The reason I play around with the Weather and News Apps is that they both have links to weather data, the Weather App obviously but the News displays current temp in the top right corner. Although I've never seen the Weather App fail to update the News App does sometimes have the temp data missing (although my location is still shown) and the only way it returns is to close and reopen said App.

Not sure if there is a "working connection" between the above Apps and Weather Widget but have noticed when those Apps are opened and I see the Location Services arrow briefly appear in the top of the display I will then usually see the same arrow appear if I quickly switch back to the Widget, and if Location Services is triggered by the Widget it almost certainly updates thereafter.

With respect to "time", prior to 04.00 hrs the Widget of both devices was updating ok for the previous 20 hrs or so, and as I type this still ok, so what gives - I'm thinking is it really server related and at certain times a connection just fails or is it something to do with location services within the devices themselves just not being triggered correctly, either way this is a strange bug.

Can't understand why when I go to the Widget sometimes it's fine, updates almost immediately, and at others it just appears to freeze, doesn't even want to update the times let alone the temps. When one of those unresponsive periods occur I now open the News App and wait for the temp to update at top right, then when I go back to the Widget it's not long before it also decides to update - coincidence!

I also have another App Widget that occasionally does the same, plus have also noticed the "Up Next" for Calendar doesn't always show what I would expect, then the following day it does - all very strange.

I'm getting close to turning all the Widgets off until a solution is forthcoming, but truth be told, they are quite useful.

She has same iPhone, 8 Plus, bought together in the same apple store.

Actually, apple apps affected are

Weather (widget only)

Calendar (app and widget, becouse when I enter an address for a meeting, the app show me the map but sometimes it later disappears and doing so I do not receive any more notifications “when to leave for”)

Maps (app, often I need to touch the arrow to localize my position, should be automatic opening th app)

Now, third party app, Autoscout24, when using localization.

What these app/widget problems have in common? Localization!

It's possible opening Maps might be "kick-starting" the Weather Widget, I've tried similar but with News - they both call weather info when starting so could be having the same influence on the Widget to get things going again.

I say "could" because for a while now I've just been using the Widget Center until Weather decides to update, which it does either immediately or after a short time, I might have to scroll up and down a few times or just leave it open at Weather, but it always updates in a minute or two.

Now that's still not "fast" and it's certainly not how I would expect it to work, but it does update and without any help from other Apps, so the point is I can't be sure opening another App first is actually making any difference because it can still take a few minutes to update, the same as if I'd just left it to "do it's thing by itself" so to speak.

I'll give your idea a go and if it forces the Widget to update immediately when I'm having one of those "delayed" moments, will report back.

I've kept testing the "Maps" suggestion through the evening but still makes no difference for me, I'm convinced the best solution (again for me) is when the Widget doesn't update immediately is just to leave the Widget Center open till it does, which takes between 1 to 2 minutes.

Not sure why mine is behaving this way when others (like yours) just freezes up totally, I'll just hold my breath and hope a future update "to fix" doesn't actually make it worse!

My issue isn't location; the location is fine. The problem I'm having is that the widget doesn't update. It's still giving me weather info from Monday. When I tap on the widget, it opens the Weather app, which displays the current weather.

This doesn't change if I activate location services. The only ways I've been able to force it to update are restarting the phone or changing the language settings. Either method is a tedious way to update the widget. It would be great if it worked as it should.

So far the Restore (with BackUp) is working, kind of, the weather updates but sometimes it takes a while, I've moved it down the order (ie at the bottom) on the Notifications screen to try and give it extra time to update itself from opening the display, not sure if that makes any real difference or not. Also, to enter Notifications once unlocked I do a right-flick from the left side of screen (one less step and easier to reach than using top left).

Not going to mess about much longer with this issue, done a search last night and found half a dozen sites reporting this and giving ways to try and resolve (all having been discussed here), and it appears to be effecting a wide variety of devices witch may kick Apple into action sooner than later hopefully.
