Weather widget not working on ios 11

Hi,

I have an iphone 7 plus. Since ios 11, the weather widget doesnt update at all. The weather app is not working fine either, I changed the location settings to only when you open the app, I tried also 'always on' but then that little arrow icon appears all the time in the top bar, so I refused.

With the location switch on 'when use the app' the widget should update if I open the app, but It doesnt. Sometimes the app itself doesnt update location or weather conditions.

Am I the only one?!?!

Hello to all who are having problems with the Weather App not working or having it not automatically load your weather conditions, when you launch the Weather App. An error is displayed telling you that the data cannot be “ Loaded.”

I‘ve seen this problem on iPhone and iPad devices and is very easy to fix.

Enter.... <Settings>…<Privacy>…<Location Services>

Enable.... “Location Services” to ON !!!

...then...

Enter.... <Weather> (scroll down the screen)

Enable.... “Allow Location Access” to ALWAYS !!!

...then...

Exit out of settings and goto your main desktop.

REBOOT your iPhone or iPad... totally shutting it down (hold the side or top power button on your device for 6+ seconds... then slide the icon button to “Power Off”).

...NOTE... You MUST power down your device in order for this to work.

Power up your device (press the top or side power button). Give your device a full minute to fully boot and establish a Cell or Wifi lock, enabling the Locations protocol to sync to your location.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

24 hours after a complete wipe clean and restore as a new phone, the weather widget has failed to update.

When I called Apple Support about a very different 11.2 bug — the forced restart now no longer works — I asked about the weather widget. The tech looked in the computer and told me, “the engineers are working on it.”

The cynic in me says, “and the check is in the mail,” but we will see.

what stage does these forum questions get escalated to Apple

It can be at any time the issue is considered unresolvable by the user, with respect to the Weather Widget that has now been proven I would say - you can submit this "escalation" in either of two ways, Feedback or Bug Reports.

Product Feedback - Apple

With Bug Reporting you will be required to login with your Apple ID if memory serves me correctly following registration.

Yes, iPad still the same although iPhone ok at moment, from how the iPad has "reverted" back within a few hours following 11.2.5 I would expect the phone to do same - I'm going to turn Widgets off that give issue and leave only the ones that don't active for the time being - that's basically Maps, Google Maps, Podcasts and News for me, what a waste of a function!

This reminds me of the early days of "Handoff" which for me was so bad I ended up turning it off across all my devices till Apple released a fix (that they kept saying wasn't required pointing finger at home network) - the only problem, the fix came out just prior to them releasing the new OS 😕

It’s the App! Localization service doesn’t work properly with it... Note that, as I’ve said before, my wife’s one works perfectly (same settings)!

Not sure what can be concluded from that, if your wife's phone is different to yours (ie. older) then it could simply be the developer hasn't updated for the new device yet (or if they have it isn't quite right and may need a revision).

The Weather App (Apple supplied) issue is a little different from how I see it, the App itself updates fine and haven't heard of any issues on other devices yet with respect to that side of things, the Widget element on the other hand doesn't always function, but whether that is down to the App or the OS I'm uncertain, but which ever it is they are both linked with Apple so down to one source to resolve hopefully.

Not sure either if there are any devices that don't have the Widget issue because few a us post that "all is ok with me", plus being intermittent it may go unnoticed, but would be interesting to know if any devices running latest OS have avoided the problem.

Yeah; those of us who have posted here for months and tried virtually everything have come to believe -- here I am (maybe unfairly) summarizing -- that the problem is oddly systemic, maybe with geolocation problems, affecting not just the native weather widget, and that it is likely to just be "fixed" without mention in one of the larger iOS updates. Here's hoping for 11.3.

Well... looking closely at widget issue I really think this is "in widget" presentation problem rather thane data update issue. Whenever I switch the screen to weather widget I see location is on (on top of the screen) and looks like widget is loading the data. Even when location is off and weather app is not showing any information, widget is still showing old data. In this regards, I think there might be some graphical glitch in widget that holds on old info rather than showing updated info/data.
