Weather widget not working on ios 11

Hi,

I have an iphone 7 plus. Since ios 11, the weather widget doesnt update at all. The weather app is not working fine either, I changed the location settings to only when you open the app, I tried also 'always on' but then that little arrow icon appears all the time in the top bar, so I refused.

With the location switch on 'when use the app' the widget should update if I open the app, but It doesnt. Sometimes the app itself doesnt update location or weather conditions.

Am I the only one?!?!

iPhone 7 Plus, iOS 11, null

I am having the same problem on my 8+

I've got my location services set to always and the widget just doesn't update. If I tap on it and it brings up the main weather screen that's accurate but the temp on the widget doesn't change unless I reboot.

Thanks, but sadly most of us here have tried that months ago. The attempted fixes have included, at least on my new iPhone 8, completely wipe clean and set up as new; resetting all settings; deleting and re-installing the weather app, and virtually everything else we can think of. Nothing lasts. Over the phone an Apple tech rep told me “the engineers are working on it.”

I still have the issue (see previous posts) but haven’t had it completely stop (yet anyhow), in fact at the moment it’s updating faster than ever, the strange thing is it still appears to be ”time” related (for me), at certain times of the day it’s a lot slower, and these times are consistent. It’s not my Home Network because it behaves the same when away and using off Mobile Data so what’s going on is beyond me.

Just for the record I've had one of those "times", it was about 04.00 hrs (UK), on both iPad and iPhone the Weather Widget just kept refusing to update again - and not just the temps but also the hours (think the "Now" was stuck on 22.00 hrs. This went on for a good 10 minutes while I kept messing around switching between devices and opening Weather and News Apps until finally the Widget updated, funnily enough again on both devices.

The reason I play around with the Weather and News Apps is that they both have links to weather data, the Weather App obviously but the News displays current temp in the top right corner. Although I've never seen the Weather App fail to update the News App does sometimes have the temp data missing (although my location is still shown) and the only way it returns is to close and reopen said App.

Not sure if there is a "working connection" between the above Apps and Weather Widget but have noticed when those Apps are opened and I see the Location Services arrow briefly appear in the top of the display I will then usually see the same arrow appear if I quickly switch back to the Widget, and if Location Services is triggered by the Widget it almost certainly updates thereafter.

With respect to "time", prior to 04.00 hrs the Widget of both devices was updating ok for the previous 20 hrs or so, and as I type this still ok, so what gives - I'm thinking is it really server related and at certain times a connection just fails or is it something to do with location services within the devices themselves just not being triggered correctly, either way this is a strange bug.

Decided to try something different, loaded an App called "Sky Live" which among other things reports Stargazing Conditions (ie. weather related info) and has a widget that shows the same - surprise, surprise, this also sometimes fails to update it's info as per Weather Widget, the App again no issue, it updates each time it's opened.

Had the last update problem this morning at 08.00Hrs, no amount of messing could get the two widgets to update, went out and returned about 13.00Hrs and they both updated immediately! - so, different Apps which I assume get there info from different sources, the only common factors, they both access Location Services and operate from in the Notification Centre - who has any further thoughts?

This is a long shot, but was reading about someone having Spotlight search issues on there iPhone in that a search would not find Apps that were on the device. This didn’t happen all the time but when it started only a Forced Restart would get things going again, then after a few days or so it would come back.

Now to the point, this person went to Apple and was told (for the iPhone X anyhow) that if Restored from a “older” device issues can result (ie. Spotlight glitches or similar) associated on the Network side and “Reset Network Settings” should resolve.

Could this be what is behind the Weather Widget update issue I wonder - I’m not having issue at moment (updates after a short time) so haven’t tried the above yet, but for those that almost have the Widget totally locked it could be worth a try. I believe all that RNS does in addition to resetting the network side is remove ApplePay data/cards.

ps. Don’t think it’s been proposed before, but with all the posts might have missed, sorry if it has been.

Can't understand why when I go to the Widget sometimes it's fine, updates almost immediately, and at others it just appears to freeze, doesn't even want to update the times let alone the temps. When one of those unresponsive periods occur I now open the News App and wait for the temp to update at top right, then when I go back to the Widget it's not long before it also decides to update - coincidence!

I also have another App Widget that occasionally does the same, plus have also noticed the "Up Next" for Calendar doesn't always show what I would expect, then the following day it does - all very strange.

I'm getting close to turning all the Widgets off until a solution is forthcoming, but truth be told, they are quite useful.

Installing the new App and then selecting it's Widget obviously makes "changes" to the Widget Center, maybe that has kick started things off again - as before, the important thing is does the change last. So many have tried, deleting/reinstalling, turning off/on, restart device - they have a temporary effect but after a few days things revert back again to a "sticky" update behaviour.

The only way that seems to work for me is when Weather Widget has one of it's "uncooperative" moments I open the News App, look at the news for a minute or two then go back, the latest weather info then appears! Does the News App really make a difference or is it simply the act of using the device allows time for the widget to update itself, not sure.

My guess is that is refreshing the iPhone,

Might be, tried this morning but wouldn't update - gave up and went out to do a few jobs. Just returned and on opening the Widget Center it bloody well updated in a couple of seconds, as I said before, go figure.

If it never worked would understand and just give up and use an alternative, it's this hit and miss that's so puzzling, not sure if it's a caching issue (ie once it updates that's it for several hours), but that shouldn't prevent new data overriding the current if available, bad design if it does.
