Weather widget not working on ios 11

Hi,

I have an iphone 7 plus. Since ios 11, the weather widget doesnt update at all. The weather app is not working fine either, I changed the location settings to only when you open the app, I tried also 'always on' but then that little arrow icon appears all the time in the top bar, so I refused.

With the location switch on 'when use the app' the widget should update if I open the app, but It doesnt. Sometimes the app itself doesnt update location or weather conditions.

Am I the only one?!?!

I am having the same problem on my 8+

I've got my location services set to always and the widget just doesn't update. If I tap on it and it brings up the main weather screen that's accurate but the temp on the widget doesn't change unless I reboot.

Hi SiHancox, I share your thought.

It seems a Location Service issue, in the environment of widget/notification center.

I experimented some problems with Destination and Calendar too. When I save a meeting, or something like this, with its location, sometimes I do not receive notification when to leave for that meeting/destination.

Worst situation: I saved a meeting on my phone in the calendar shared with my wife (same iPhone 8+, same iOS) with destination. The two phones were side by side at home, my wife's one gave notification, mine not!!! Entering in my phone widgets, the Destination widget did not indicate destination of that meeting any more!!!

Very confusing and annoying!

I’ve been observing how Widgets update (or not in some cases) for the last week and as you confirm it’s certainly not consistent, either on the one device or between several devices.

The Weather Widget as previously stated sometimes updates immediately, other times it may take a few minutes - this may be the same on iPhone/iPad or one may update while the other doesn’t. Calendar Widget behaviour is the same, the update might get delayed and when it shows it can often be different between the devices.

The only consistent part is the Widgets do eventually update, I can usually force Weather by remaining in Notifications Center for a couple a minutes and it suddenly changes, Calendar often needs the next event to come along then everything jumps back in to sync (until the next time).

I really shouldn’t be saying this just in case it’s tempting fate, but never yet had the Weather Widget permanently lock up on either device (fingers and everything else crossed), and again this lack of consistency makes it very difficult to guess what’s going on.

Just updated iOS to 11.2.5 and although it’s not mentioned in the notes will see if it helps, again fingers crossed.

Yes, iPad still the same although iPhone ok at moment, from how the iPad has "reverted" back within a few hours following 11.2.5 I would expect the phone to do same - I'm going to turn Widgets off that give issue and leave only the ones that don't active for the time being - that's basically Maps, Google Maps, Podcasts and News for me, what a waste of a function!

This reminds me of the early days of "Handoff" which for me was so bad I ended up turning it off across all my devices till Apple released a fix (that they kept saying wasn't required pointing finger at home network) - the only problem, the fix came out just prior to them releasing the new OS 😕

Just this minute tried both devices and they updated immediately, the iPad didn't this morning and not having time to do the usual faffing around just left it - noticed when login into devices I am now seeing the Location Services arrow on a more regular basis, whether that will last or in fact it has any relevance I'm not sure.

Was wondering the other day why this post hasn't got any bigger than the 14 pages if this is indeed a bigger issue, but if the majority are like mine, may be for some it's going totally unnoticed!

That's exactly my experience, but what's behind this odd "delay" and why does it only happen on some occasions. A weather app requires constant info so it can change to reflect latest predications, in the UK it's quite common for the band of rain predicted for the afternoon in the early morning forecast to move forward to late morning over the space of a few hours, an app that doesn't track that change adequately can result in getting caught out!

Luckily the app still does track changes but as we've seen the widget sometimes "drops the ball".

Still can't figure if the lack of immediate update is linked to certain times of the day (server related) or whether once updated the widget requires a certain amount of time to pass before it tries again (a sort of in build timer preventing frequent info requests) - or is the Notification Center some how failing to trigger updates occassionally when opened for some reason (in other words a deeper issue within the OS).

I’ve found a third party application affected by the Localization issue.

Autoscout24, used for searching used cars, has some difficulties when you use zip code of your area to search cars and in some specific cases, a pop up advice that, due to localization problems it is not possible to have all details of tha car found.

This is not a problem of tha application because I’ve tested it on my wife’s iPhone, apparently one of the few iPhone without localization problems!

Are you saying it's the App or it's Widget (if it has one) that has the issue on your phone, if it's the App I don't think I've had that happen yet. I say "think" because all my Apps using location services that fix your position, like Maps, The Weather Channel or Redshift have worked fine to date, the only thing I've notices sometimes is when opening the App Store I might see "Try Again", this doesn't usually happen for the iTunes Store when tried at the same time, plus on retrying it then works. Thought it just could be Apple having trouble with the numbers trying to access there service but not sure now, could it be a "location" connected problem.

ps. By the way, this morning both devices updated the Widget straight away, last night the iPhone wouldn't - just the opposite to the previous day! If one device updates and the other doesn't would think that rules out the server being the problem,

It’s the App! Localization service doesn’t work properly with it... Note that, as I’ve said before, my wife’s one works perfectly (same settings)!

Not sure what can be concluded from that, if your wife's phone is different to yours (ie. older) then it could simply be the developer hasn't updated for the new device yet (or if they have it isn't quite right and may need a revision).

The Weather App (Apple supplied) issue is a little different from how I see it, the App itself updates fine and haven't heard of any issues on other devices yet with respect to that side of things, the Widget element on the other hand doesn't always function, but whether that is down to the App or the OS I'm uncertain, but which ever it is they are both linked with Apple so down to one source to resolve hopefully.

Not sure either if there are any devices that don't have the Widget issue because few a us post that "all is ok with me", plus being intermittent it may go unnoticed, but would be interesting to know if any devices running latest OS have avoided the problem.
