Weather widget not working on ios 11

Hi,

I have an iphone 7 plus. Since ios 11, the weather widget doesnt update at all. The weather app is not working fine either, I changed the location settings to only when you open the app, I tried also 'always on' but then that little arrow icon appears all the time in the top bar, so I refused.

With the location switch on 'when use the app' the widget should update if I open the app, but It doesnt. Sometimes the app itself doesnt update location or weather conditions.

Am I the only one?!?!

Hello to all who are having problems with the Weather App not working or having it not automatically load your weather conditions, when you launch the Weather App. An error is displayed telling you that the data cannot be “ Loaded.”

I‘ve seen this problem on iPhone and iPad devices and is very easy to fix.

Enter.... <Settings>…<Privacy>…<Location Services>

Enable.... “Location Services” to ON !!!

...then...

Enter.... <Weather> (scroll down the screen)

Enable.... “Allow Location Access” to ALWAYS !!!

...then...

Exit out of settings and goto your main desktop.

REBOOT your iPhone or iPad... totally shutting it down (hold the side or top power button on your device for 6+ seconds... then slide the icon button to “Power Off”).

...NOTE... You MUST power down your device in order for this to work.

Power up your device (press the top or side power button). Give your device a full minute to fully boot and establish a Cell or Wifi lock, enabling the Locations protocol to sync to your location.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Localization may be the issue, since all four weather apps that I have — Dark Sky, The Weather Channel, AccuWeather, and the native weather app — all have some update problems. But why the variation in problems? Why does the native widget not update sometimes for hours? And none of the weather apps have problems updating instantly in the app itself; the problem is with the widgets, as though the problem lies in transferring information to the widgets. (I can speak neither about the calendar widget, which I don’t use, nor Apple Maps, which remains sadly too inaccurate for me to use.) It’s quite puzzling.

Sorry to confirm opening the Map App doesn't appear to make any difference for me, I still have to let the Weather Widget sit a while when it's in one of it's "lazy" moments before it updates, as I said that seems to be a couple of minutes. Roughly half the time the Widget updates immediately so it's not a big issue on the odd time it doesn't, others might be having a harder time though.

I won't enable this in spite of all the "hard" prompts Apple now gives when updating software, I just don't have the confidence in Apple's ability to "manage" the process 100% across devices any more. This has resulted in being on the fence with respect to the purchase of new HomePod because of the use of Two-Factor and iCloud Keychains, if I don't currently have them enabled linking to HP appears not possible (although I'm still trying to find out if AirPlay will still be allowed).

The trend I've seen over the years is that the Software and Hardware Functionality are still great, it's let down by what joins it all together - Services. This is an area Google (I believe) has a definite lead and the more everything gets linked the more that aspect will have a bearing on overall reliability. In the early days your Computer was the "hub" and everything connected or went through it (so if software was good it worked well), now it's some "Server Center" and when that link fails.. well you can guess the result. It's probably why Snow Leopard was considered so reliable, in that it's reliance on services had not yet taken over.

I'm not sure how Apple control or manage their Services (or even if some are third party) but something needs to change before people start voting with their feet and going to a company that proves excellence in that area, or if they stick with Apple they simply start turning those parts of the system off (in doing so breaking other functionality in the process), neither option is good news I would say.

If the story is true that Apple will spend time fixing current "Software" I really hope it extends to "Services" as well, or could Services really be the main focus and we simply aren't getting the full story, won't be the first time😉

Yeah, I ran into a situation yesterday where the widget said 24 degrees out and it was in the fifties. Nothing would udpate it, my geolocation never changed. I’m agoraphobic, I go to appointments and that’s about it.

On a more interesting note, there seems to be some flaw in the logic of the widget. I would assume it’s just a mirror of sorts, but the other night it said the high for the day was 23 and the low was 25.

So, there’s more at play than geolocation and app data updates.

I hope they fix it. I bought Dark Sky because I heard it was more accurate, but the same issues happen there.

I’d be happy if they just added a refresh “complication” to the widget just to force it to refresh.

Genuinely glad this worked for you. Many of us tried this solution months ago, as well as every other measure, including complete wipe-clean and restore-as-new, but to no avail, as the 17 page string shows. Every solution lasted only a few hours or so. At the moment, and continuing a long pattern since iOS11 and my iPhone 8 Plus, every weather widget, TWC, Dark Sky, AccuWeather, as well as the native app, continues to have update problems for me. We all await 11.3
