How can I play podcasts continuously on iOS11?

The old podcast app would play episodes in your preferred order (oldest to newest, etc) continuously without having to add each episode to the “Up Next” playlist. Is there a way to automatically play all episodes without having to add every episode manually?

Hi,

I too am really frustrated with this change and came across your post when trying to find an answer.

The only workaround I have managed to find for this removed feature is to create a ‘station’ for the individual podcast in question. I had a couple of stations already setup when I updated to iOS 11 where I’d add podcasts of a similar theme e.g. Soccer or technology and realised that the station settings allow you to choose the playing orders (see screenshot). You can then choose to play oldest to newest and they continue onto the next episode. This is a workaround and not a real fix but hope it helps.

I thought I was the only one having this problem! I would always listen to podcasts to help me fall asleep and the continuous play feature made everything so simple. I just hit a random episode of a podcast and done. Now I have to set up several episodes in a “play next” list which is super inconvenient. Why? It makes no sense to take away one of the best features of the app...

I’m trying the Overcast app. Continuous play, but no built in sleep timer, but I can use the Clock App to “stop playing” after x minutes.

It’s more like the old Podcast App. Removing continuous play is a deal breaker for me.

I just want to be able to go to sleep listening to a series, in order. I can’t fathom why I’d have to manually add all the episodes to “play next”. I like to listen to a few the switch to a different podcast depending on my mood.

If anyone has a fix I need it too. In my slightly older ford truck with usb, once an episode ends and doesn’t continuously play the next it loses the connection and I can’t play anything on the iPhone until I shut off the truck and start it again. This was never a problem before. If anyone from Apple looks at these forums please bring back the continuous play in the podcast app. It doesn’t make any sense to remove it if I’m listening to a particular podcast I want it to go automatically to the next unplayed episode unless I stop it.

Even Gramophones play one song after the other!

Imagine if you were jogging around the park, listening to iTunes and you had to stop after every song and press play.

I had to download the Overcast app, then re-subscribe to all my favourites and download all the episodes I needed before my 4 hour drive yesterday. I can't wait until Apple decide to put this feature back - who knows when that might be - not until the next update, or the one after that??

At least Overcast is a free app. It will get you through until Apple work out how ****** people are with this missing feature - and it is MUCH easier to navigate than the new Podcast reincarnation.

I talked to Apple support today to see if there was a work around and there is not. She agreed that it was super annoying to not have continuous play on the updated app. She even talked to an engineer while I was chatting with her to see if we could get continuous play to work. I would suggest every one fill out a feedback form to Apple. I did and the support person did as well. I loved how simple and intuitive the old app was so for now I may switch over to Overcast. Podcasts are a huge part of my day and this is a big annoyance!

I agree with everyone else on this thread. I haven’t seen one positive comment so far. And why do we need a whole section for “recently played” podcasts? Why do I need 1/3 of my screen taken up by a list of podcasts I’ve already listened to?

I also don’t see the sense in the “listen now” section. Just show me each show, let me click it to get to the episodes, and let me play them continuously. The entire app needs to be nothing more than that and the search function. Apple...please fix immediately.

This should help. From another thread:

This is howyou can see your podcast “playlist” queue: start in the Podcasts App then:

1. In ’Listen Now’ play your first episode.

2. at the bottom of the screen tap on the currently playing episode to bring the episode to full screen format

3. Swipe up starting your swipe about 1 inch from bottom of screen

4. If you have made a “playlist” you will see the episodes in your queue under the heading ‘Up Next’

5. you can reorder the queue by touching and holding the 3 horizontal lines of an episode in the queue and sliding it into your desired location.

It should play continuously....
