Ever since updating to iOS 11, my phone is inconsistent in giving me tone notifications on received text messages.
That is, I don't always get a tone alert on my lock screen. The banner still shows when I wake my phone. But, I don't always get a tone alert.
All settings are correct (no changes from before when there were no issues).

Anyone else having this problem with the new iOS? Any solutions?

I know this might sound obvious, but I just noticed that there’s a “hide alerts” feature in messages that appears if you swipe right on the conversation. I was wondering why texts from my wife didn’t have a tone play...I think this may be why. Later I noticed that a crescent moon appears to next to the conversation when “hide alerts” is enabled. See photo.
Same here. Turn off BT in settings and everything works. Turn it back on and the notifications stop. What a pain.

Do not forget to check if the "Do Not Disturb" option is active...
Same with you. I switch off my bluetooth then my alert tone are ok then. :)
I'm having the same issue but turning off the blue tooth isn't helping and yes, do not disturb is off, the ringer is switched on at the side
and volume is up.
I was having the same issue on my iPhone 8s iOS 11 and after turning off Bluetooth the sounds came back. It must be a flaw of the ios 11
Figured it out. I turned off Do not disturb and it works perfectly now.
Thanks, this fixed my problem! I had noticed the crescent moon for weeks now against my wife's texts (that I never got a notice for). I must have accidentally enabled this while swiping.

Seems ridiculous for software to assume a conversation is “active” when phone is locked.
