iPad dock hidden on home screen iOS 11

Meanwhile, try to avoid those apps that change the screen resolution, games maybe.

I’ve also noticed if my dock messes up it’s after an in app ad

Some of those come in ‘wrong’ in that if you have your iPad in landscape mode (wider than it is tall) and some ad comes in in portrait (taller than it is wide) it may mess up your dock.

Arbery I can feel your frustration but we’re all just users like you. We have no control over the issue nor the ability to fix it beyond suggesting work arounds to tide you over until Apple fixes the issue.

How do I fix this? I brought it up from the bottom but cannot get it to move below the little dots and stay. Do you have any advice on how to do this? I am trying to drag it off the screen as you stated in your second paragraph.

One thing I saw is that there’s a bit of a glitch. Open a folder on your main screen, then drag your finger up from the b bottom to drag the dock up and it should stay up.

Conversely, when you have a folder open, you can drag the dock down and off the screen. Maybe an accidental finger touch slid it down when you didn’t mean to

A restart fixes temporarily, but for me the problem keeps recurring.

It’s as if the dock thinks it’s displaying on an iPhone - in portrait mode it displays,but too high on the screen, and in landscape it’s not displayed at all.

That fine but only a temp fix. The issue is back within a day of use.

I don't believe that this warrants a 'solved' mark.

Its an issue with ISO 11 and so far still there at 11.2,1

For what it’s worth, I haven’t noticed this happen on my iPad for over a week now. We’ll see if it doesn’t come back. I haven’t done anything differently either.

Turning off the recent apps does not fix the floating dock. It is a step towards removing the little alarm clock on app icons in the dock.

But as has been stated MANY times in this and other threads, the floating dock is a known glitch in iOS11, and one that Apple has apparently had a hard time tracking down. It will probably ONLY be fixed in an iOS update, but there is no idea when that may be coming.

Beyond that this is a user to user tech support forum, folks are not speaking to Apple here. So your cries of frustration don’t go where you want them to go to. If you want to send your frustration to Apple, send them some feedback and let them know just how many people are having this issue

If you haven’t already, try a simple Restart.

This is just a workaround for the iPad until the bug is fixed by Apple:

1. go to settings—>General—>Multitask & Dock
2. go down to Dock
3. Slide option to Disable (should not be green) “Show Suggested and Recent Apps”

Yes it is a pain to not have recent apps there but for me it is more painful not having the dock.

you can always ask Siri to “open app Xxx“ or you can manually search for apps. Not sure how long it will take for Apple to fix the iPad issue but at least there are some things we can do to still be functional.

Hi, do you also find if you swivel your iPad around through 360 degrees (so the display is portrait, then landscape, then portrait etc) the docking bar is visible on some screens? (sorry, I’m not explaining this well)

I tried that. I have narrowed it down on my iPad to after I play Dream League Soccer. So far that is the only app. Something with the ads that play possibly. But after trying the hide recents, it still disappeared or was in the middle of the screen when in portrait.

I have this too. I later realised it's just outside the view and can get the bar back by unlocking the orientation and rotate the screen 180 degrees so it's visible. A little bit annoying but currently the for me the only way to get it back until apple fixes it.

Yes, that's exactly what happened to me.

Disabling recent apps on the bar fixed it permanently, so it's definitely app-related. I think I'll leave it that way for now and try again in a few weeks, when hopefully apps will have been upgraded.

have not had this issue on my iPad, but my wife has this issue constantly on hers. She uses different apps than I do. Switching recent apps off and on brings dock back to life, but not for long. Trying to isolate which app might be causing this Issue.
