iPad dock hidden on home screen iOS 11

As a follow-up....It's been about 3 days since I used Mscreant's suggestion to take everything out of the dock, restart and put everything back in. This didn't correct my problem. But here is what has:

I was able to identify my offending App, which wasn't that difficult as it always happened right after I used that App. It was NOT, as some suggested, the App that puts a "recently used" timer icon on my dock. But, it IS an App that organically opens in 'portrait' view, but I use it in 'landscape' view, so it is always "forced" to change orientation. (I did not try playing the game in the portrait orientation). What I DID do was to delete the offending App, "hard restart"ed my iPad (with iOS11.2.4) and then downloaded a clean version of the App.

This has solved my issue and as it turns out, it is NOT an Apple issue!

One thing I saw is that there’s a bit of a glitch. Open a folder on your main screen, then drag your finger up from the b bottom to drag the dock up and it should stay up.

Conversely, when you have a folder open, you can drag the dock down and off the screen. Maybe an accidental finger touch slid it down when you didn’t mean to

I found if I disabled showing recent apps on the dock in Settings then the dock stays where it should (useless, but there!). So I guess one of my apps must be causing the issue.

Correction to my previous post. Switching “show recent apps“ on and off did not bring back the dock, had to power off. Sorry!

After update iOS 11.2 - I think they fix the bug. Have not had to restart my iPad. Yes it’s only been two hours but I’m hopeful. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

I have this too. I later realised it's just outside the view and can get the bar back by unlocking the orientation and rotate the screen 180 degrees so it's visible. A little bit annoying but currently the for me the only way to get it back until apple fixes it.

Hi, I experienced the same thing on my mini 2. Here is how I fixed it. On mine the culprit was apparently an app that offered extra playing time in exchange for viewing an ad. (A previous commenter provided that suggestion) I first deleted the app (temporarily) then changed my settings so that recent apps would not show in the dock. Then reinstalled the app and voila! Never had the issues since.

Been testing this workaround for 2 weeks, seems to stick:

move all icons out of the dock to a folder

hard boot the ipad

play your games from the folder, do not launch from home screen or dock

put icons back on the dock that do not play embedded video - I am pretty sure my culprit is AB2

since doing this, 2 weeks, the issue has not represented.

If you haven’t already, try a simple Restart.

So, I just patched the iPad, restarted the iPad, and removed recent apps on the dock. I have not seen occur since. I think I am going to nuke any app that I am not actively using.

It looks like turning off recent apps in the settings under dock settings keeps the problems from occurring. I don’t like having to turn off a feature that I use, but for now it will have to do.

If you go into display and zoom and standard click standard then back to standard that fixes it also but it will come back and you hav to do it again????

I’m cautiously optimistic that iOS 11.3 finally fixed this. Updated yesterday and have not been able to reproduce the issue since.

I have not experienced the issue anymore on my iPad MinI 4th gen since installing the 11.3 update.
