iPad dock hidden on home screen iOS 11

I updated my iPad mini 4 to iOS 11. The dock is always hidden on the home screen and I have to swipe up to see it. I have heard it’s supposed to always be visible when you’re on the home screen. Any ideas on why it‘s always hidden when on the home screen? Its really annoying because I now have to add an extra step to get to the apps in the dock from the home screen, and I have this big empty space at the bottom of the screen where the dock used to be. Pic shows the missing dock and the empty space where it should be.

As a follow-up....It's been about 3 days since I used Mscreant's suggestion to take everything out of the dock, restart and put everything back in. This didn't correct my problem. But here is what has:

I was able to identify my offending App, which wasn't that difficult as it always happened right after I used that App. It was NOT, as some suggested, the App that puts a "recently used" timer icon on my dock. But, it IS an App that organically opens in 'portrait' view, but I use it in 'landscape' view, so it is always "forced" to change orientation. (I did not try playing the game in the portrait orientation). What I DID do was to delete the offending App, "hard restart"ed my iPad (with iOS11.2.4) and then downloaded a clean version of the App.

This has solved my issue and as it turns out, it is NOT an Apple issue!

Restarting should not be the fix for it long-term, and just recently I noticed my battery symbol changes color while charging ensuring fully connected to my iPad Pro 9.7 iOS 11.2.5 and my daughters iPad Air 2 iOS 11.2.5 battery symbol starts out green then after while it turns to white, meaning it's not charging. I have to unplug the USB-C to Lightning cable and re-connect it to both devices. I had placed a call with AppleCare and that was a run around. Still having same issue. Please APPLE INC., let's do something in your next iOS rollout.

I’m also experiencing this issue and am surprised this hasn’t been fixed by now. Really hoping iOS 11.3 deals with this because it’s driving me nuts. How apps can interfere with the normal operation of the Dock is beyond me, that should technically not even be possible.

If I rotate my iPad it shows various Dock positions:

Portrait (home button down): Dock floats over the bottom row of homescreen icons with the left side off screen.

Landscape (Home button on the right): Dock is entirely off screen

Landscape (Home button on the left): Dock is on screen but too small and to the right, as if it’s a portrait Dock on a landscape view.

Portrait (Home button up): correct position but too large, right side off screen.

iPad Mini iOS 11.4.6. This issue is still happening. IMO, turning off "display recent apps" in the Dock settings is a red herring, as I have this same problem, but have never activated this setting. It has remained disabled, always. I also do not play games with ads, so this also would seem to be not part of the problem. I will try MsCreant's (Mar 1, 2018), as at least it's something different, but I agree....APPLE FIX THIS.

I am not sure what the point of your comment is, but....

I was reiterating Mscreant's expression....not voicing my frustration. And, as it has been suggested many times previously in this thread, I also reported this to Apple.

I thought it was new information in the thread that I had not had my "recent apps" toggled and that I don't use apps with ads, as many people seemed to indicate that those actions played some sort of a roll.

There have been several iOS updates since this problem first occurred so we can't be certain that an update will correct it, and whether or not Apple fixes the problem will depend on what is causing it. Sometimes, they just choose not to. AND I have worked for Apple, and I know (positively) that even though Apple doesn't respond in the forums, they DO monitor them.
