iOS 11 - Clock on lock screen disappears

After upgrading my iPhone SE to iOS 11, the clock on lock screen disappearred.

When I restart, the clock reappears, but again it disappears.

Is there any other solution other than restarting the iPhone?

iPhone SE, iOS 11

Looks like this is (maybe) a perm fix. I have had this issue since 11 and re-boot no luck, reset and reinstall from backup no luck, reinstall totally clean no luck. But this easy fix / workaround seems to have worked:

Settings -> Display -> View -> Zoomed and then Settings -> Display -> View -> Standard.

So far almost a full day and no disappearing clock.

Reading one of the posts about carrier related is interesting, but I think it's just coincidental. I switched from T-Mobile to Verizon right around the time I started experiencing the problem.

Here's where I am now. I believe it to be the Goole Keyboard Gboard or maybe just a 3rd party keyboard. As soon as I take Gboard off the problem doesn't return. I had the problem on the iPhone 7+. I upgraded to the iPhone X over the weekend and thought I'd give the Gboard a go and sure enough, the clock disappeared shortly afterwards. I removed it and so far it hasn't returned. Too bad, I really enjoy the Gboard keyboard.

I'm going to try another 3rd party keyboard.

Hi guys and gals!!! Okay, I think I have found a permanent fix! This has irritated me to know end! I tried all of the things mentioned before in this thread and they worked temporarily but was back to screwing up before nights end. Okay, here's what you need to do. (I'm using iphone 8 plus IOS 11.1.1)

**Make sure you're updated to the latest IOS FIRST**

1) Go to settings>Wallpaper

Change BOTH your lock screen and wallpaper to any Apple Live wallpaper. I believe this somehow updates the display drivers and/or installs them etc.

2) Restart your phone

3) You can then change your wallpaper and lock screen to whatever you want.

** I waited a 3 days to make sure this was a permanent fix before posting this fix and falsely getting everyone's hopes up** The Clock is back and I can see all of my notifications EVERY TIME!!!!

Good Luck! Let me know how it works for you!

Yes, you are right - I deleted all widgets and the problem of losing the clock stopped for over a month (was losing it and rebooting 4-5 times a day before). Added widgets back in one by one - for me, the Fandango widget started the problem again. Deleted it and I’m good again. The “bad” widget may vary for each person - I had no banking or credit card widgets - but that area is the problem... has nothing to do with wallpaper for me...

I had been having this issue for months and couldn't figure it out. apple support couldn't help either, they just kept having me reset the phone and it didn't help. I had this black image with a logo in the middle as my lock screen background, I figured this could the only other cause. I changed the background to something else and I haven't had the issue since. Hope this helps. Have no idea why it does this.

Ok so this is what is am seeing. I put my Bank widget back on and now and see what I think was going on. The Bank widget is never supposed to display the balance on the lock screen. When it was on before it would actually show the balance and never show the message that it can’t show it on the lock screen.

What it appeared to be doing was eventually getting to the point of trying to not show the balance on the lock screen but not getting there and that was blocking everything from displaying their data on the lock screen as well. This also looks to be what blocks the clock and the camera from displaying on the lock screen.

I would guess that this may happen with any broken widget timing out the display of data.

So please see if pulling widgets off till you get rid of the broken ones eliminates this clock missing on the lock mess.

Are you using a banking widget? Discover perhaps? I, and others, seem to have narrowed it down to that. One guy removed his discover card widget and was at three weeks when he reported. I gave it a shot and did the same. I’ve been 10 days and counting.

At first I thought it had to do with my account as well except I have no issues with my iPad. So that ruled out an iCloud issue

Changing wallpaper had absolutely no effect for me at all.

You are on the right track here. The problem for me is all centered around the widgets in the widgets page (press the Home button and swipe right to get to widget page). I eliminated ALL widgets (still have the apps though)- losing the clock problem stopped - it’s bedn 14 days now vs multiple reboots per day. I’m sure it’s one of the widgets causing the problem - and I may test out which one is causing the problem. For now I’m enjoying the peace of having the iPhone act normally!

✖ First of all, Apple does not care at all what we are asking here 🙂 I asked their "GENIUSES" few times at the different stores the only solution they all had was "Sir, you have to reset your phone", what actually worked for a few days then I had to ask them again, and again, and... you know.

Shame on you Apple!

✅ Secondly, If you wanna fix that follow these steps:

Settings -> Display and Brightness -> Bold text -> Turn on (then display is gonna turn off for a second) -> turn off (it will blink again and then your screen will be showing clock and notifications again)

ℹ IDK for how long tho - gonna test it..

ℹ After I had tried pretty much everything I could I finally found a solution that works for me.

✅ If you guys install some app, which sends you the notifications / and has its own widget, but every time when you wanna open it also asks a password - in my case, it was the app from "DISCOVER" (bank in the US) then when it starts to conflict with some iOS 11 parameters. So, that conflict was a reason for disappearing of all stuff from my locked screen. After I removed that widget and turn off the notifications from that app I never see that issue again.

😠 Shame on you apple for keeping silence during all that time, you can continue ignoring us, but better start to respond and teach your "geniuses" to solve the problems like that one! The simple logic that what they all need - no more, no less... And better test all apps before you publish em in your store!
