Photos app on iPhone not syncing in iOS 11

I upgraded my iPhone7, iPad AIr and iPad Pro to iOS 11.

The iPad Air had stopped syncing Photos properly, reboots did not correct it, turning off ICloud Photo Library and Upload to My PhotoStream, rebooting and then turning them back on did not work. I finally logged out of my iCloud account and back in, and it seems to be resolved on that device a few days back.

But now the iPhone 7 is doing the same thing. I repeated these steps of turning off ICloud Photo Library and Upload to My PhotoStream, rebooting and then turning them back on, and I did get the Photo to sync partially, but it stopped at 38,880 (photos and videos), whereas the Mac on Sierra, and the two iPads all show 57.755 (photos and videos).

I've made sure that I'm on wifi (I did have it set to allow cellular too).

With the Photos app open and the phone on the charger, I can see periodically that something is working briefly (the swirl next to the wifi signal) but the photos count is stagnant at 38,880.

I've also tried resetting the Network Settings.

I guess my next step is to log out of my iCloud account on the iPhone entirely, reboot and log in again.

Anyone else with this issue find another less painful fix?

Oh, another problem that I have noticed since updating to iOS 11 is that my iPad randomly closes the app I'm using and locks.

I told my adviser about this and she said she will look into it. That was back in the beginning of December.

Its now happening more frequently and randomly. Doesn't matter what app Im using, be it safari, pages, vlc, watching a movie, clash...

I’m so frustrated with this situation and not having my photos on my iPad, that I’m seriously considering leaving Apple. In the meantime, I downloaded the App Photo Manager Pro 5 just to get my photos there. It is a tedious and tiresome procedure to download them to the app so I only downloaded about 60%. My husband’s iphone broke yesterday, so he needs a new device. This might be the push that I need to leave Apple.

I’ve also submitted many logs to my senior advisor. He believes the problem is with iOS 11. Therefore, even though I need new devices, I’m holding back for now. Unfortunately, my iPhone is not syncing photos either, but since I never removed my photos from my iPhone, I’m only missing recent photos. I removed my photos from my iPad in an attempt to fix the proble before I realized that it was an Apple bug.

Mt iphone worked some months ago so I am too worried about it messing up to do a further sync.

My iPad is still not syncing and messes up each time I try to sync my photos.

The new Mac iOS upgrade does NOTHING t o fix this issue... have just upgraded to 11.3.2 and tried yet another sync... same old ... same old message failed to sync...

Totally disappointed and frustrated with the whole thing.

Still putting all my photos on Google who can manage to sync across all three devices (Mac, phone, ipad) without any hitch.

Yup! You were correct! New iPad did the same thing, still will not sync, just cancels without an error! Oh well, hurry up and wait on Apple! I think they are in no hurry to fix it because they want us to pay for iCloud storage and use iCloud Photo Library! I noticed that when I set up the new iPad, before doing anything on it, iCloud Photo Library was set to “on” by default! I have had this happen when I reformatted my old iPad as well. Senior advisor assured me it was not set to “on” by default! They are mistaken! 🤔😡

Sorry you had to seek this thread and join us.

Frustrated users keep on coming, Apple fiddles like Nero.

Then there is the programmatic battery caused device slow down issue. Apple never warned users or provide alternatives. Can’t get appointments at Genius Bars. Many users remain plugged to a charger at all times, but they are screwed also.

This once great company has lost its way.

Earlier I had posted that the iCloud fix worked for me, those photos are now in there but new ones are not being copied over. To go through the iCloud process each time I add photos is nuts.

I too am very unhappy with Apple. They slowed my 6 with iOS 11 so much so it was very difficult to use as a phone - a must for my work. So, because I also have a lot of photos, I upgraded to an 8+ with extra memory. Well that memory is useless to me. My problem now is that I am so imbedded in Apple (bought my first in 1984) that switching would be exceptionally difficult. I no longer suggest folks that they consider Apple products.

Another "me too" here.

My wife's iPad Mini 2 will no longer completely synch her photo albums from her Mac, but her iPhone does . . . very strange. This has only just started. Everything has been working fine up till the end of last week. Nothing had been changed on iOS or macOS on either of her devices. I have factory reset her iPad but it has made no difference.

My iPhone and iPads all continue to synch reliably.

I have created a report on the Apple Developer area.

Almost Feb 2018 and two things are still true.

1. The problem still exists.

2. Apple are still pretending it doesn't.

Amazing you can google any combination of Apple, iTunes, Photo, Sync, Problems and iPad and will always be pointed to an Apple Forum, where there is no acknowledgement from Apple that this is a problem or what they are doing to fix it.

From what little dissent you can find on the Web you can see that it is a fairly widespread problem which manifests itself in a few different way and it seems Apple/IOS are the likely cause.

Please Apple, for the prices you charge we deserve better than this.

In frustration, I contacted support and have reopened my unresolved case from 4 months ago on the non syncing issue.

The consultant assured me the engineers have all the logs and analytic reports from this case....and they are very busy...working on it....

I have been assured something will be done to resolve this problem.

In the meantime, I wonder how Apple get around the issue when selling new iPads and iPhones to customers who want to sync their photos...or does it work with new hardware??? How can they advertise you can sync your photos across all your devices?? When clearly many people are hVing problems with it.

Clearly false advertising and a consumer affairs issue as well.

Anyone with brand new hardware able to sync pics? Would love to hear how you do it.
