Photos app on iPhone not syncing in iOS 11

Does the "delete iPod photo cache folder" apply only when syncing bare folders from the PC to an iOS device? Does the cache folder apply also to Photos libraries?

I use iPhoto (and will upgrade to Photos, if necessary) and haven't yet digged deeper into their photo library packages to find out if they have corresponding cache folders.

I have used an empty folder sync to iPad to zap incomplete syncs from iPhoto/Photos to iPad (by chance I noticed a brand-new folder zaps the ghost images and folders but apparently it also zaps the caches). But I will also toggle iCloud sync on/off to make sure everything is zeroed before I finally start re-adding my 30 000 images and videos to the iPad.

"NO", but be careful as your device may need to be restored and if so it will not be allowed with an older version of iTunes creating an even bigger problem as I found out. Really screwed myself, luckily i saved the deleted contents and after hours of nonsense back to work but problem unresolved. I am angry as **** at apple for not acknowledging this or even caring to look into it.

As I sit her waiting over an hour now for a sync - my optimism is dissipating. In the meantime while I waited for iPhone to sync I was able to import 600+ hi-res PEF with their sidecar JPEG photos from Pentax K-3 into Lightroom. While iTunes hangs on Reading photos library Step 5 of 6. My disappointment apparently must continue. Both phone and computer must up to date.😢 its really sad and disturbing that I can't rely on this for what feels like over a year now. Buy the time a resolution rolls around maybe I'll be dead or the iOS will have reach the 30s. I just don't know what to say anymore. Use LightRoom Folks maybe Apple doesn't need photo professionals anymore for customers. Just freaking ridiculous. I'm out until another option surfaces.

I have upgraded to 11.4 but havent yet tried out the sync.

Read the description of the update, nothing mentioned about photo & video sync.

Also last couple emails to my senior advisor were left unanswered.

This is so bad on so many levels!

iPhone 8 iOS 11.4 with iTunes 12.7.5.9 on iMac High Sierra. Deleted iPod Cache file. Can't turn iCloud synch on and off because of the size of my library.

Still can't synch photos to iPhone. When I go to delete all files on phone the synch stops in error. Any ideas welcome!

I upgraded from iOS 11.4 beta 6 to 11.4 final. iTunes to 12.7.5.9. Windows 10 April Update.

I did try a sync, this time brave enough to try one without emptying the iPad Photo Cache. There were about 5700 photos on the iPad Air 2, spread out over 40+ folders/albums. To make the whole collection different enough, I added a single folder, with 233 photos in it. All the other folders remain unchanged. Made sure the USB cable is hooked up. I hit Sync.

It went through all the steps, backing up, reading the folders, determining what it was supposed to do..... Then it said copying 2335 photos (not sure where that number came from, but I saw this craziness before, so I let it progressed). After all of that, iTunes ended the sync without generating any error messages. But going to the iPad and checking the folders, some photos weren't there yet. I hit sync again. It did something (not sure what). I hit sync again. After about 5 minutes, I checked the folders and all photos were there! Total photo count 5947. The whole thing took about 15 minutes.

So this was a little bit of progress, way better than 11.0, 11.1, 11.2 and 11.3. I would give this a B, instead of D's or F for those earlier version of iOS 11.

Seems like 2 syncs will do it!!! Not sure if there were still some background stuff going on after the first sync. I didn't check, nor waited overnight like "Sunshine4a" did. I just did the second sync right after seeing some photos not making their way.

I am still having issues, now it is "iphone synch failed to finish", I can't get passed this, both on the iPhone X and iPad Pro. I have done all the recommended steps in other support threads for that problem and nothing is working.

Still can’t get proper sync. over a dozen attempts in last 2 days. Several hours with Professional Apple tech support.

I've rebooted iMac Pro and iPhone several times.

I've removed cache with the assistance of Professional Apple tech support.

Empty folders on iPhone Photos library all saying 0 from My Mac

Bunches of facial recognition folders duped and not chosen for sync are on my phone creating lots of extra albums (several redundant I don't want or need.

I’m not syncing any movies, tv shows, or pod casts.

All I am focused on is my music and photos - not even concerned for movies or tv shows on my phone.

I’m not syncing contacts either via iTunes.

Current attempts to sync yield an error stating - "The iPhone "i8Phone" could not be synced because the sync session failed to finish." After many months, still music and photos I can't access on the go with the iPhone. Until this works, I have to keep spending time and money on Professional Apple tech support in attempts to correct this ongoing failure for each Apple software update. I should mention that as of today I have not had any followup from Apple for a long time time. Since March 21 was my last AppleCare Telephone Support.

On the other hand, I have hundreds of emails form the Apple Support Community.

I sync 2 times in a row on several occasions for good measure because it was suggested in forum.

With nothing to sync it completes in seconds.

I go through each tab, check and then uncheck sync feature. When I select in Photos the option to sync and then uncheck after have synced with nothing, it still asked if I want to remove photos - I presume no photos should be on there if sync worked to clear it out.

I go back to music and even remove voice memos.

It syncs various times with only 4 steps.

I check phone and it has no albums asides from stuff like WhatsApp, and a few apps that I've made some photo edits in - Lenka, InstaMag, FotoRus...

I disconnect phone after ejecting from iTunes and reconnect and try to add just 3 photo albums that are very small.

The sync is now doing 5 steps and hanging on Step 2 longer now backing up...

At one point I was advised to wait to the number in right side on albums with photo count. I did not wait for them to show up for the 3 albums as I know they are under 1000 and not even 100 probably. Several minutes later the iPhone sync still hanging on Step 2 of 5 Backing up.

During this time, no numbers have shown up next to albums indicating photo count but a folder containing the prior formatted iPhoto Events expands and I collapse it. As a measure to ensure nothing was coming in from the old "Events" I clicked the parent folder to sync and then unchecked it to make sure nothing else was selected in first trial sync of photos asides from my 3 tests albums. Another several minutes have past and sync still hanging on Step 2 of 5 Backing up. I am unsure at this juncture what new things it needs to back up...

Now the photo count has appeared next to the 3 albums and they list 17, 93, and 119 photos for a total #229images that surely must be able to fit on my iPhone.

Sync still hanging on Step 2 of 5 Backing up. Very curious. Finally, it scurries through step 3 and starts reading photo library in Step 4.

The same folder containing the prior formatted iPhoto Events expands AGAIN and I collapse it AGAIN.

Is there a problem to have folders with albums within them?

Now the photo count next to the folders I am trying to sync disappears.

My complete Library on my iMac has 67,894 Photos, 2,058 Videos

I am only trying to sync 229 photos...

Several minutes have past and Syncing still in 4 of 5 Reading Photos Library.

Trying to watch everything here to monitor what the application’s malfunction mighty be. I honestly can't recall what time frame a proper sync should take.

15 minutes later still hanging on Syncing Step 4 of 5 - Reading Photos library.

And no photo count has reappeared next to the 3 selected albums including 229 photos I am attempting to sync.

I shut down any extra apps not needed for the moment on the computer to hope it speeds things up. That did not appear to help.

Finally some action in iTunes after what must have been an hour, but what is the icon jumping for?

Day 2 of this new updates attempts yielded much of the same frustration in lacking syncing completion.

I ma thinking I might try to sync my really old iPad mini. It won't help me for much of my work but curious if based on too new of equipment that is not supported. Some time older gear is more reliable even if not as functional with newer features.

Any feedback welcome to solve this ongoing mystery.

It' the same sad story everywhere!

Ever since IOS 11 came out: Same failure just a new version.

Fortunately I still have an iPad Pro 10'5 with IOS 10.3.3 and it syncs all my 39.000 photos correctly with event, albums and all that stuff.

I have an older MB Pro, a iPhone 7 and other "old" devices waiting to be replaced, but I'm not buying anything new from apple, until I can trust in basic functionality!!!

Back on June 9 or 10 when I synced my iPad, it worked fine copying my +30,000 photos onto my iPad . Today, I returned home from vacation and tried to sync 2 new photo folders, unsuccessfully, as they did added the 2 folders with 0 photos each. Anyone else have this problem or a solution?

I am confused jeans. What is a long time customer to do that is heavily invested into they proprietary software that isn't functioning as designed? Since it is not everyone, there must be a common factor. Wait, Apple... jajajajaj

I been an apple consumer since 2001 and have pretty much all of apple products, but this situation is very frustrating. Everything i tried won’t fix my problem, i tried every solutions imaginable and they all don’t work. I think something we all have in common in this forum is our very large photo library and I think that’s the problem here. Cause small photo library users don’t seem to get that problem we are sharing. On my part i have lost hope on fixing this issue till ios 12 is realease.

Well, it definitely did sync better a few times, but now much of the time it stops sync with a message that the "The iPad 'iPad Pro 10' could not be synced because the connection to the iPad was lost" (or iPad <whatever>). Also now the "People from my Mac" are all mixed up.

So, while they seem to have made some progress, it isn't fully fixed.

The odd thing is that it seems to be syncing over wifi okay now, but it is only when it is trying to sync via USB that the problem occurs. The iPhone X just wouldn't sync via USB (as above), but did sync another 487 photos via wifi and the iPad Pro 10 is syncing now too.
