Photos app on iPhone not syncing in iOS 11

I upgraded my iPhone7, iPad AIr and iPad Pro to iOS 11.

The iPad Air had stopped syncing Photos properly, reboots did not correct it, turning off ICloud Photo Library and Upload to My PhotoStream, rebooting and then turning them back on did not work. I finally logged out of my iCloud account and back in, and it seems to be resolved on that device a few days back.

But now the iPhone 7 is doing the same thing. I repeated these steps of turning off ICloud Photo Library and Upload to My PhotoStream, rebooting and then turning them back on, and I did get the Photo to sync partially, but it stopped at 38,880 (photos and videos), whereas the Mac on Sierra, and the two iPads all show 57.755 (photos and videos).

I've made sure that I'm on wifi (I did have it set to allow cellular too).

With the Photos app open and the phone on the charger, I can see periodically that something is working briefly (the swirl next to the wifi signal) but the photos count is stagnant at 38,880.

I've also tried resetting the Network Settings.

I guess my next step is to log out of my iCloud account on the iPhone entirely, reboot and log in again.

Anyone else with this issue find another less painful fix?

Hi WMalden, I have followed this thread for months and indeed 11.4 did make a difference. Many have said it fixed it. Your instructions above came out during the beta of 11.4 and supposedly worked. I also have followed them when 11.4 was publicly released. My problem is it loaded all the photos but when I went to add more days later it was still the same crap. It would not load new pictures. My question to you is......have you added more pictures since and did they get copied?

So here I am upgraded to 11.4.1 with the same problem that we all had in October 2017. Latest photos are not syncing properly. I do not use iCloud and I don't want to. So very frustrating. I'll try a couple of things later today. I've already spent 1/2 hour trying to sync a couple of new photos from this week. WHY APPLE WHY???

iOS 12 looks promising regarding syncing an iPhoto project from iTunes to iPad.

I synced about 35 000 images and videos, and every album transferred OK. I then updated two iPhoto albums (about 4 GB each) and also they eventually transferred OK (the 1st try failed at the very start with "session failed to finish" message. The 2nd sync succeeded although the "finishing sync" message lasted about 30 minutes.

With iOS 11 I always got several empty albums and many missing photos with similar syncs. But I don't yet fully trust iOS 12 because initially also the iOS 11.4update seemed to work but later the sync failures reappeared.

I did upgrade to iOS 12. However, I can not sync at all anymore. When I sync, I can’t get pass the backup step. My devices will not back up at all, so it just sits on that step for over a half hour, or until I just cancel the sync. I have a call set up later this week with an Apple representative. I don’t know if my photos will sync since I’m stuck on the back up step.

UPDATE on iPhone 6 not syncing new photos and albums;

Upon doing a SECOND sync, all new pictures and albums are now on the iPhone 6.

I DID create 1 new playlist before syncing.

I don't know if that's what did the trick or if one just needs to keep repeating iTunes sync until all the pictures "come over" (as some have mentioned in this thread).

At least I now have all photos and albums on all devices synced with my MacBook Pro.

HOORAY!!

There is hope for us "non cloud" users yet!!

For me, iTunes Photo sync is still not working properly. I just imported over 500 photos and videos from a recent trip to Photos on my MacBook Pro. My iPhone 6 has NO new albums or pictures synced. My iPads have the albums and photos BUT no videos included. The videos DID import to Photos on my MacBook Pro so I have no idea why they did not sync to my iOS devices. This iTunes Photos sync issue just drags on and on......Come on, Apple - you can do better!
