Since iOS11 Bluetooth keeps disconnecting

Since I upgraded to OS11 my iPhone 6 keeps disconnecting from the Bluetooth in my car, a Mazda 6 2015 vintage. To reconnect I have to select the phone on my cars infotainment unit and off it goes working for a while longer until it again disconnects mid song. This didn’t occur prior to OS11, any ideas?

Hello Pathfineroz,

I was having the same problem with my Bluetooth devices continuously disconnecting and then reconnecting on the iPhone after the iOS 11 update. It did this with all Bluetooth devices such as my car, powerbeats, etc. I use my Bluetooth headphones at the gym and on runs so you can see how this was a huge annoyance for me.

Anyways, this morning I was reading some articles and came across one that suggested I should reset all networks. I did that along with hitting the “forget this device” feature. I’ve been using my Bluetooth wireless headphones ever since I did that (for a little over an hour) and voila I haven’t had any disconnection issues!

I am not tech savvy whatsoever and I didn’t read through all of the comments in this discussion so hopefully I am not being repetitive and I am able to provide some assistance.

Hi Pathfineroz, I have a similar situation with an iPhone 8 device running iOS11 Technical support had me re-pair my BT devices in vehicle (one for handsfree another for music / audio), it worked for some time. Later in the evening when an inbound call came in over BT connection it was lost to my vehicle and music stopped playing. The vehicle continuously re-establishes a BT connection with my vehicle and begins to download contacts, it loads then resets the connection and re-loads phonebook BT . It does this repeatedly but is difficult to reproduce what triggers continuous phonebook reloading.

11.0.2 is out now. I was hoping this would solve the problem, however it has made it worse. The problem I described in my prior message was with 11.0. With 11.0.1, it got a little better in that they disconnect-reconnect wasn't happening quite as often, minutes instead of seconds. Unfortunately 11.0.2 is back to seconds. I've also now tried pairing both my wife's and son's iPhones as well, and they also have the same problem. We all have iPhone 8 Plus, so it could be hardware related problems, but I hope it is not. My son has a Car Play radio in his car and he is not having this problem with it, so between that and not having problems with the house phone not having the Bluetooth pairing problem, I would say it isn't likely to be a hardware problem.

I have an 8 Plus I'm having basically the same issue in my 2016 VW GTI. I'll get a notification on the head unit display that bluetooth has been disconnected a few seconds later it reconnects. It does this every few minutes. I've not timed it to see if it's random. I have the same problem with my 8 Plus my LG earbuds. I've had this issue since the original release of iOS 11. I'm running 11.0.2 (beta I believe) and it feels like it's more frequent with this release than it has been. I didn't have these issues with my car or earbuds with my 6s Plus and iOS 10.x.

Hi- I have the bluetooth hands free car connect/disconnect issue. I don't use media streaming, just hands free.

My main car is a 2009 Audi so I thought perhaps it was the age of the car but recently I had a brand new VW Golf hire car and it is exactly the same if not worse ( or perhaps I just notice it more because the car infotainment display is better )

I have a new iphone 8. My previous iphone 5s was 100% reliable. I have upgraded each version of ios 11 but to no avail, it remains the same.

A colleague has a more recent iphone 8 ( about 2 weeks newer ) and has no problems with his 2009 Audi bluetooth, yet- he is on the same ios 11.0.3.

I have found one trigger in my 2009 Audi which is that bluetooth connects automatically when the car is first started and appears to be a solid connection ( no connecting/disconnecting) until the first time I select 'numbers dialled' in the car and then it immediately disconnects, the menu says auto-connection is taking place, and it goes through the whole connect/disconnect process. Eventually is calms down, stays mostly connected and has not yet dropped connection mid call.

Hoping for a fix soon- and that it is not a phone hardware issue....

I commented earlier on having the same issue.

Improves slightly ifind to quit all apps, then reboot the iPhone. Then the proble sloooowly creeps back in.

Noticed when you try to do "something else", such as switch to another app, unlock phone, etc. There's a very high chance of a BT disconnect. Quit all apps -less things running randomly -less mariah carey nye moments.

Even a day of this should be unacceptably long inside Apple, leadership is not perfectionist enough as the old days.

Bluetooth, modems and routers all have one thing in common: the firmware is what governs the communication protocols. When I installed iOS 11.0.3, the first thing I noticed was that the firmware was being updated. This is where the problem is.

Complicating matters further, I have noticed a slew of bugs in texting, iTunes and the weather app. In other words, this is the worst iOS release in Apple's history. It will be a while before Apple sorts everything out, and hopefully the next version will sport new and better features, and, of course, all bugs will be fixed.

Let's get it on, Apple. The longer you wait, the further your stocks tank.

I spoke with BMW about this issue and they said Apple stopped working with them awhile ago and so they haven't kept up their audio system software since IOS 10.3 Also, though I have a 2013 BMW, my iphone 8 Plus works fine in a 2012 BMW but not in min and my friends 7 Plus works fine in my 2013 BMW and his 2012. They know there's a big problem but don't want to admit it.

I have the same problem with my BMW X5 40e. My iPhone 7 plus worked perfect on CarPlay. When i got my iPhone X and tried to connect, it took several tries. Once i got it connected, half of the apps didn't function as good, sometimes my display didn't recognize touch. After 15mins my idrive kept rebooting with eventually resetting it automatically to factory settings and removing all my connected drive functions. I had to bring my car in at the dealership. They had to reinstall all idrive software and were unable to connect the new iPhone properly. They said that they had many customers with the same problem, all were iPhone 8 or X owners. All unable to get connected or work properly with CarPlay. BMW is aware of the situation but they say it its an Apple Problem.

I got the 11.2 update this morning. I've been out a couple times in the car, total driving time about 2.5 hours and not a single disconnect for me. Looks like it might be fixed, for me at least. iPhone 8+ in a Honda Accord. It's ridiculous that is took this long and this many updates for Apple to finally fix this problem. I don't know if I will be buying any more Apple products after this mess.
