iOS 11 auto time zone problem

I travel internationally extensively for work. I have always had my iPhone Time Zone set to "Set Automatically." When I arrive at my destination and connect to the WiFi, the iPhone correctly set the time.

However, since iOS 11, now when I turn my phone to Airplane Mode when I go to bed, the time zone reverts to my home time zone. This caused me to miss an alarm that I set!!! Please fix this!!

iPhone 6s, iOS 10.1.1

This worked for me. I think everything was working fine while we travelled until I changed Facebook's location services to "while using the app" because Facebook was chewing up battery charge. Make sure you follow the path all the way to the setting as adviced by TheLastPagan: Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services > Setting Time Zone and turn this on. It is deep in iOS. I have two iPhones and only one had the issue with the only difference the Facebook location services so that's why I am suggesting this may have something to do with it. Regardless, if Setting Time Zone is off for any reason it won't update your time zone automatically.

Hi MadDogMikeATL,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Community. I understand that the time zone on your iPhone is not updating even though it is set to do so automatically. I can see how this can be an inconvenience, especially when traveling.

You've already tried some great steps to resolve this. I recommend to take a look at the rest of the information in the following article:
Get help with the date and time on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

If you're still having trouble after going through those steps, then I would like you to reinstall iOS on your iPhone. This should not affect any of your data, but it is always a best practice to make sure you have a current backup in either iTunes or iCloud. How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Once you have a current backup, follow the steps in the section titled "If your device turns on but gets stuck during start up" from the following article. These steps will reinstall iOS. Keep in mind that these steps were written for a different issue, but they will still help us isolate the situation further. If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't turn on or is frozen

Take care.

I arrived in Las Vegas yesterday from London and my 8+ on 11.2.5 changed to local time despite not having the ‘set automatically’ enabled. It has kept doing this despite turning the facility off. HOWEVER, a possible solution has occurred to me. There is a setting in iCal that is ‘time zone override’ Having selected that and locked it to London, my phone has stayed on London time for over 12hrs now. Fingers crossed!

Checking in... Still happening on iOS 11.2.1

I can reproduce the unwanted flip back to "automatically set time" on by rebooting the phone. I set auto time set to off and manually set a time... Then Pressing the power button , selecting "turn off" then turning phone immediately back on via the power button

If you are fast enough after it boots up you can unlock it and see it's ok on the correct manual time then it connects to network and flips back an hour. You go to date time settings and "automatically set time" it turned back on. This happens if I forget all my wifi networks. So it seems to be something it's getting from my carrier att.

I get the carrier is pushing a time and zone but why won't iOS ignore that if I manually set a time and tell it to not auto set?

I am having exactly the same problem on iPhone 8 Plus. I set the phone to Manual and within a few minutes it reverts back to auto. This is extremely annoying as I live on the time line boarder of NSW and QLD (NSW side) but as my phone number is a Qld number, my phone keeps showing Qld time ( 1 hour behind). My iPad 2017 is not a problem as I don’t have the SIM card installed but it has gps, so must me SIM card location related. I am also using the IOS beta updates but is obviously not fixed in the upcoming IOS updates. It should not be reverting back to Auto once set to manual regardless of where I live. I will be contacting Apple today to officially report this expensive bug.
