I travel internationally extensively for work. I have always had my iPhone Time Zone set to "Set Automatically." When I arrive at my destination and connect to the WiFi, the iPhone correctly set the time.
However, since iOS 11, now when I turn my phone to Airplane Mode when I go to bed, the time zone reverts to my home time zone. This caused me to miss an alarm that I set!!! Please fix this!!

This worked for me. I think everything was working fine while we travelled until I changed Facebook's location services to "while using the app" because Facebook was chewing up battery charge. Make sure you follow the path all the way to the setting as adviced by TheLastPagan: Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services > Setting Time Zone and turn this on. It is deep in iOS. I have two iPhones and only one had the issue with the only difference the Facebook location services so that's why I am suggesting this may have something to do with it. Regardless, if Setting Time Zone is off for any reason it won't update your time zone automatically.
I’ve been having a slightly different but equally problematic issue. My phone keeps jumping time zones within minutes of each other. I set an alarm for 5:55am this morning to get to my 7am train. It went off at 5:55 but as soon as I unlocked my phone, it was 4:55. So I set a new alarm and just rolled around in bed kinda stressed. The new one went off at 5:55, but 10 minutes later, I checked my phone and it was 7:05. I panicked thinking I missed my train to the airport. This is ridiculous. I specifically upgraded from my beloved 5c so I would have a more reliable phone for travel. And It’s not even my home time zone it switches to - that’s 8 hours earlier. No idea what to do :/

I ticked off settings/privacy/location services/system services/ setting time zone.
I want automatic time update to be OFF But phone still resets it to ON after restart

I have just unticked locations services.
However at restart my phone picks up location and reverts back to automatic time update, which was off before the restart.
It must pick it up from the mobile network . I need to DISABLE that. I DO NOT WANT AUTOMATIC TIME on my phone!! C’mon apple

Agreed. Problem still exists in 11.2.1 for those of us who want the auto setting to off . For those of us with a manual time set it's a gamble if it will stay as set

I too live on a time zone line and have a $1000 phone with a completely unreliable alarm. Please fix ASAP

Did what you advised. Turned phone off and back on.
Set-Automatically was in the On position.
So this did not work for me.
NO NO NO it is not fixed- have done all items suggested- was holding my phone this morning and it switched in front of my eyes- very annoying, Apple- what is the fix?
Yessss.....the entertainment value does tend to diminish after awhile....brings “Pinky and the Brain” to mind. One side wants to take over the world....the other just wants their phone to work...

And just to add to the bizarre factor- if I leave my phone in the kitchen it does not change but let me walk 40 feet to my bedroom and viola I am in central time
