Emilecha, I have the LG OLED65B7P-U that is not working well with the AppleTV 4K, from your note above you have a very similar TV. I'm guessing that your full model number is OLED55C7P-U. Would you mind sharing your firmware version info? I've also posted a video ow what my setup does here: https://youtu.be/P_YpHsEUXmc

I've tried the following to resolve...

  • Connecting the Apple TV 4K into multiple HDMI ports (1&2).
  • Using different HDMI cables / purchased (2x) of the recommended HDMI cables made by Belkin, sold at the Apple Store, tried both of them in both HDMI ports.
  • Reset the LG TV back to factory default (Software Version 03.60.16 / webOS TV Version 3.6.0-20901)
  • Reset the Apple TV 4K back to factory default (tvOS 11.0 (15J381))

Thanks in advance for the information.

The ultra High speed cable exist : Belkin Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable (2m) - Apple

(48 Gbps) It seems to be a HDMI 2.1 Cable

I bought this cable with the new Apple TV 4k and tested it with a LG 55C7 oled screen (directly connected to the tv).

It works perfectly in Dolby vision 60Hz

I tested the "test mode" by curiosity and it seems to fail ( I got a magenta tint over the screen as result of the test).

Just to add my own findings after reviewing the thread and troubleshooting my issues.

Setup:

  • LG 65B7A
  • Denon X4300H
  • AmazonBasics High-Speed HDMI Cables, 10"

Using an AmazonBasics cable I connected the ATV directly to the TV and enabled Dolby Vision without issue. When connecting through the AVR, the Dolby Vision check would fail but I was able to eventually enable HDR. The Chroma 4.2.0 worked but the 4.4.0 would result in signal drops. I took the HDMI cable being used for the AVR to TV, and connected it to the ATV, yet another ATV to TV test. This cable failed the Dolby Vision enable test. I got a different (yet identical) Amazon cable and replaced the bad cable going from AVR to TV. Reconnected the ATV to the AVR with the cable that worked before and the Dolby Vision test was successful.

All of these Amazon cables I bought together in a 3 pack so they are all identical except one obviously isn't working as it was intended. Sending it back to Amazon. The Amazon cables work but there could be a chance you got a bad cable that doesn't work with Dolby Vision.

Wanted to share my setup and frustrations.

TV1: LG OLED 65" C7

TV2: Samsung 49" MU8000 (I know that Samsung doesn't support Dolby Vision but see my issues below)

Receiver: Denon AVR-S920

Cables I've tried already:

  1. With LG: In-wall 60' Monoprice Cabernet Ultra Series Active High Speed HDMI Cable - 4K @ 24Hz, 10.2Gbps, 24AWG, YUV 4:2:0, CL2, 60ft, Black (50' it's rated at18 gbps and then drops, I didn't notice that before I put it in the wall)
  2. With LG: 1' Monoprice Ultra Slim Series High Speed HDMI Cable - 4K @ 24Hz, 10.2Gbps, 36AWG, YUV 4:2:0, 1.5ft, Black
  3. With LG: 5' Sure-Fire High Speed
  4. With Samsung: 15' Monoprice Select Active Series High Speed HDMI Cable - 4K @ 24Hz, 10.2Gbps, 28AWG, 15ft, Black
  5. With Samsung: In-wall 40' Aurum Hi-Speed (10.2 gbps)

Overall, I can't get Dolby Vision to work properly unless I directly connect with the short 1' cable to my LG OLED. But even then, I had moments of an unstable connection. Good news is that I have 4K HDR @ 60 HZ working fine over the 60' cable whether or not I connect directly to the TV or thru my Denon Receiver (with a 1' monoprice cable between the ATV and Receiver). I did run double 50' CAT6 to the TV from my AV closet so hopefully I can leverage that connection as I'm not able to swap out the 60' HDMI anymore. If anyone knows a good way to connect this I'd love recommendations.

As for the Samsung TV, I'm having issues getting any stable connection, regardless of quality/framerate. Can't figure out why the Samsung and ATV won't cooperate. I've connected the ATV to a friend's Samsung 4K HDR set and it works fine with a 5' cable (can't recall the brand or specs). I guess it's my sub-par cables.

I'll report back once I confirm that my firmware is updated on all devices and my UHD/HDR settings are turned on (which I'm almost certain I already did).

Make sure 1) you’re connected to a compatible HDMI input. HDMI 1.4 inputs will not work 2) Make sure deep color or UHD color is enabled for your HDMI inputs on your display. 3) There is a difference in cables. Get a new, modern hi-speed HDMI cable. There are many inexpensive options. 4) If you’re going through an AVR, you could have a myriad of issues..... you need a DV compatible AVR. Most modern 4k AVR’s will pass HDR10 however.

I have a samsung ks8000 and a denon x2300. My PS4 pro displays 4k 60 hz no problem when I enable UHD color. But the Apple TV does not display at all. I tried the new amazon cables and my PS4 cable it will not enable HDR. After it tries, the screen goes black and I hurry to enable UHD Color and it stays black until I turn it back off. After which when I press enable HDR nothing happens when I click the button and I have to restart it in order to try and enable it again. Maybe I have a bad unit.

Any suggestions?

I connected to tv and it worked with UHD color on and off. It even told me it enabled hdr on my tv for me when I had UHD color off. The settings displayed 4k hdr 60 hz, when I checked tv settings the UHD color was still off...weird. This was the case for both old and new amazon high speed Ethernet HDMI cables.

Plugged unit back into receiver and still black screen. This time with UHD on and off. I have to turn UHD off and reboot in order to get a picture. Even then it will not enable hdr and basically locks up when I try to.

Keeping this plugged directly into tv is not a long term option for me. Sadly this may have to be returned for a roku.

I just unplugged my 50ft monoprice dynamic view HDR cable from receiver and put it in my A4K and it would not display HDR. My guess now is there is a distance limitation with the unit or it has to be connected directly to the tv. Summary:

PS4 Pro plays 60hz HDR through my receiver which is connected by this 50ft cable no problem. PS4 also plays HDR fine connected directly to the tv with the 50ft cable and the 6ft cable that came with the system. A4K will only do HDR connected to tv with a 6ft cable.

I had a similar problem with my Sony XBR TV, and I solved it by setting the TV input to "Enhanced" HDMI.

Then I ran into a second problem where the HDR video looked muddy. I solved this by resetting the the TV via "Reset (HDR Video Vivid)"

Maybe other (non-Sony XBR) TVs have similar settings.

I wrote up my notes here:

I have. ATV to TV directly works fine, even my HDR blu-ray player works fine thru the AVR. All cables high-speed with ethernet Amazon basics.

I've found this posting as well that I'm going to try.

I had problems with my Sony XBR and Yamaha receiver, but I finally got things working. (Besides all the other variables, these HDMI cable issues are a nightmare. I have no idea how, from looking at a cable, what version of HDMI it supports).

Anyways, here is a link to my notes on getting HDR working through my Yamaha receiver to my Sony XBR TV. Maybe they will help.

Also, see others' notes on changing Yamaha's settings. I did that too. (Need to add that to my blog entry)
