I have an LG OLED55B6P 4K tv that supports both flavors of HDR. I was having the same problem. I found what fixed it for me was going into my TV’s settings and going to General and under that I found a DEEP COLOR setting. I had to turn it on for my HDMI input and as soon as I did that, I rebooted the set and the Apple TV 4K switched over to 4K HDR. This was driving me nuts but I’m glad i found the fix. Hope it helps anyone else here having the same issue.

I have OLED65C7P with firmware 03.60.15. Oddly we don't have update to 03.60.16. Besides the point my ATV 4K is in HDMI 1 and i have no issues with Dolby at 60 HZ. Did have to enable deep black under HDMI settings. But honestly it seems more of an issue with ATV than your cable or TV itself. Have you tried to play some demo on LG TV itself to test dolby? LG Netflix or Amazon app?

I had a similar issue - both on my Sony A1E when the ATV4K was running through my Denon X4300H, and on a Sony 930D direct to TV.

I found that the Monoprice Active Slim 18 Gbps cables I had been using for 4K devices could not pass a 4K60 HDR signal. Then I tried the Apple branded thin high speed cables I had been using for Apple TV Gen 3 and Gen 4 could pass 4K60 HRD 4:2:0 but not 4:2:2. I thought it was weird the older passive cables worked better than the 18 Gbps active ones, but still not quite right.

Then I finally changed everything to Monoprice Passive Slim High Speed cables (not 18 Gbps) and now I can get 4K60 HDR 4:2:2. Seems active cables can be a problem, even if supposedly capable of 18 Gbps.

I was already using the Passive Slim High Speed cables for everything non-4k, and I had some extras around from when I switched to the active 18 Gbps cables for 4K sources.

So, it seems cables can make a difference, considering 4K60 HDR 4:2:2 is running at very high bandwidth, and before the ATV 4K was released most 4K content has been 4K24 at less than half the bandwidth. If I still had problems, I would get 18 Gbps certified passive cables.

I don't know about Dolby Vision because the firmware update for the A1E has not come out yet.

Have you been able to use Dolby Vision @60Hz? I've unfortunately only been able to get it to work at 30Hz and it looks pretty terrible. I can get my apple tv to display in 4k HDR @ 60Hz, but I'd prefer to get the Dolby Vision to work on it as well. I've even tried using the cable that apple sells on their website to no avail. I have the same OLED as you. Thanks

I have the same problem. I have Yamaha RX-V681 and Samsung UE55KS8000 TV. I have followed advice and gone to advanced settings on Yamaha and 4K Mode to 1 but it still will not switch to HDR. I have all the latest firmware on everything.

I have tried plugging the Apple TV straight into the TV and HDR works so I know it isn't the HDMI cable that is the issue so must be something to do with the Yamaha Receiver.

Is there anything else I can try?

If your set is designed to support both 50Hz and 60Hz 4K signals, then my point is, as my owner manual indicates that my TV (LG OLED65B6P) supports up to 4K 60p at 4:4:4 chroma via HDMI with Deep Color activated, that is more than enough bandwidth to support Dolby Vision 4K/60p at 4:2:2 chroma.

This suggests that, if the TV manufacturer supports Dolby Vision metadata, and 4K/60p up to 4:4:4 chroma, then it is implied that they SHOULD also support Dolby Vision 4K/60p up to 4:2:2.

I have the 65" of the same TV. Go into Settings - External Inputs - HDMI signal format- then select Enhanced. Then, in Picture Adjustments, select Advanced settings - Video options and turn all the settings to Auto. But definitely make sure the HDMI cable you have is rated HDMI 2.0 - 18gbps. Hopefully that helps.

I have the latest Panasonic 4k UHD TV, linked via a Yamaha AV amp. The amp says it passes through Dolby Vision and HDR, but Apple TV won't recognise it as such. When I plug it into the TV directly is automatically switched to HDR, when into the amp it downgrades to 4k with no HDR. Hugely frustrating as other devices output HDR via the amp fine. I wish there was some kind of manual override!
