Sam,
Unfortunately, even though Dolby Vision is supported with direct connection to your TV, when you route the signal through your AVR, The receiver has not been updated to pass through the Dolby Vision metadata.
Check with Denon to see if a firmware update is forthcoming.
The Denon website says it supports Dolby Vision, with HLG support in a future firmware update. Are you saying they're lying?
I am able to enable it at 1080p60 or 4k30, so I hope it isn't some hardware limitation, like how the scaler in the AVR can't do 4k60, just 4k30.
As Netflix is my only source for Dolby Vision content, if nothing else, maybe we'll just use the Netflix app provided by the TV.
I have the same problem with a Denon AVR X2000 and a Samsung QN75Q7FAM. 4K HDR works great when connected directly to the TV, but no 4K outputs work through the Denon. I've tried multiple HDMI cables and every setting combination suggested by Denon, Samsung and Apple and it doesn't work. Very frustrating.

I was ready to pull whatever hair I have left out of my head trying to figure out why I couldn’t get Dolby Vision 60Hz to work. HDMI on the vizio was set to full UHD color and the Denon AVR was updated with the firmware that supports Dolby Vision passthrough. Long story short, switched out my 15ft high speed HDMI out for a 15ft premium high speed certified HDMI from monoprice and boom! Everything worked like a charm. It shouldn’t matter whether the cable is premium or not but, from reading everybody’s similar issues, it seems more of a manufacturing quality control issue between cables more than anything else.
Very helpful comments from many people which is great. Just to add my own experience after reading this thread.
I have a Panasonic OLED TH-65EZ780Z (very similar to LG) and a Yamaha sound bar YSP-2700. When connecting my ATV to the Yamaha sound bar I could not achieve HDR, pretty much as everyone else has commented.
I then tested with a direct connection which worked perfectly and allowed HDR to the TV. However, I had to use the correct HMDI input for it to work (HMDI 1 as HMDI 2(ARC)) is the connection to/from the sound bar). What I discovered is that the ARC is working correctly and passing the ATV audio to the sound bar essentially bypassing the pass through requirements that cause the issue. So ATV video goes direct to myTV in glorious 4K HDR and the audio is through the sound bar.
Everything else seems to be working OK including the Yamaha multicast which I control through the App on my phone.🙂
Thanks again for the helpful comments that allowed me to think this through for myself
Having the same issues.
Have the 2017 Vizio M-series however I’m using a Panasonic VSX-1131, 4k HDR works but DV only when connected directly into the TV.
I miss the good old days of 1080p and as long as you had an HDMI cable you were good to go lol
I just picked up the LG OLED65C7P and AppleTV 4K, and was having problems like you as well. I had read ahead of time to get a solid cable, and I had all the config set up appropriately. The magic trick ended up being #2 above - UHD/deep color was for some reason only enabled on HDMI 3 on my TV inputs, so the test failed. So things worked great there, but not on the ARC input I had been using. Not only that, but you can only modify the deep color toggle when that HDMI port has something connected to it.
Long story short...once I figured that out (a few weeks later) all is good. And Dolby Vision looks amazing!
I have the same issue. I do have an ultra high dynamic range passthrough cable but it says that my tv does not recieve. I have a sony 55XBR900E. Any help apple?
With respect to Apple there is no such thing as an Ultra high speed cable.
This is similar to my issue. Apple TV gets 4K and HDR connected directly to TV via Amazon Basics cable. But no HDR through my receiver even tho my HDR blu-ray player goes thru receiver no problem.
I should probably mention this is running thru my AVR connected to and HDMI 2 port with HDCP 2.2a, so there should be no issue.
I’m having the same issue on my 65XBR900E.
@Loki, what is your total HDMI distance you're using?
ATV to AVR 3 feet, AVR to TV 25.
