iOS 11 on iPad Pro 9.7 very slow

I got the iPad Pro 9.7 128GB for its speed and performance.

I got this device for about 60k and now on iOS 11 it feels like im using iOS 10 on iPhone 5.

it lags a lot. all the animations have a stutter. And everything takes forever to load. It’s not smooth. It is visually depressing to see a new device perform this way. Please find a way to solve this. And also please could someone else confirm if their device is performing in a similar way. I have tried hard resetting and also even restored to get the same exact results. Please help.

Other things to look at.

In Settings app, General settings panel, turn OFF Background App Refresh.

In Settings app, under General settings, Reset panel, at the right bottom of the list, Reset All Settings.

Also, in general, if you want a faster IDevice, on all of my iDevices, I turn off most of the iOS motion graphics eye candy, by simply turning ON Reduce Motion in Settings app, General, Accessibilty settings.

Make sure you aren't running scads and scads of background apps in the iOS 11 Control Panel/App Switcher.

If you are, you need to quit the bulk of these background running apps by tap and hold a finger on an app window in the switcher and slide your finger upwards to quit an app. You should be able to use more than one finger to quit more than one app simultaneously.

Also, make sure you don’t have scads and scads of active website tabs running in the web browser.

If you do, greatly reduce the amount of active website tabs your web browser.

Same here. Random slowness, jittery animations. Launching Safari from dock, I get 5-10 FPS. Swiping thru photos, there is a persistent/repeatable half second lag/freeze.

My old iPhone 5s performs MUCH better than my iPad Pro.

I did a hard reset (home button and power), reset settings, disabled background app refresh, closed all connectivity. Updated to 11.0.3 Nothing helps...

Judging by the OP which has over 60 votes, I’d say all users are Affected. Just few report it.

Gone are the days of the legendary stability of iOS.

Same Problem here with the 12.9 first gen and iOS 11.0.3. I also tried a full restore but starting from the scratch. It remains super slow; it lags everywhere, it feels like an old device. Considering that I bought it with the original case, original cover and Apple Pencil I spent quite a bit of the whole "package." Sometimes I start drawing, and the stroke appears on the screen a couple of seconds later like a bloody windows crap! I'm really disappointed... just to say the least.

True. Also, we are not talking of problems that make it useless, a similar slow down on an iPad Air 1 or 2 could be perfectly acceptable but not here. When I bought my iPad Pro 12.9, the people at Apple Store said that the hardware was so fast that the current software could not even fully exploit it. Just one year and a couple of months later I'm here with the faint shadow of that lightning fast machine...

Bummer.

Really thought this would help.

A fair amount iPad Air 1 and 2 users have reported better performance results with iOS 11 after a total erase and restore.

Sorry this didn't work out for you.

I did a reset and still can't see any appreciable improvement.

The device is seriously struggling to scroll thru my photos. It’s lags behind my finger, freezes for a fraction of a second with every single photo I swipe.

Launching and switching apps, especially safari, is painfully jittery. 5-10 FPS (though not as consistent as swiping photos).

I’m beyond frustrated now. So much for Pro.

**** Look, we purchased last year's iPad 9.7 Pro (again...PRO). We should not be experiencing this simple lagging and hiccuping issue on our one year old pro device. Keep in mind this device was claimed to be a desktop class experience and even a "replacement". These are powerful devices. We shouldn't have to restore the whole iPad, even though most of us did and still experience the same problem. My iPhone 6 feels more pro then my iPad Pro right now. That shouldn't be. My iPad 9.7 Pro is a 128 gig model and I only have 30gigs full. I barely have any apps. I mainly have music and pictures/videos. That shouldn't cause slowness on my iPad. If apple can't fix this simple issue, my goodness, they should give us a heck of a deal to upgrade because this is unacceptable from Apple.

did it - does not work for me .... iPad air 2; refuse to upgrade on my iPad air1; my apps still hesitate to open and when they do they open with a black screen and then bounce out of app to home page; all apps take up to 90 seconds or more to open then bounce back after 1 minute to desktop???? granted 1 minute to open a program sounds as if I am nitpicking but when you go from an immediately opening your apps to over 1 minute it is extremely frustrating. Not to mention regardless of the app if I scroll through a page it my device freezes approximately every 2 page (equivalent) which takes at least 3 minutes to unfreeze. i would understand the delays if I had every conceivable application running on my device but I have an iPad air2 with a capacity equal to 64GB and I am using apps 18 GB with a capacity of 46 GB available. my iPad is mostly used for reading and shopping though right now it is way too annoying to use. Not too mention I cannot stand the fact that I can't walk into an apple store to help especially with the cost of the devices.

this is my 4th ipad that I have owned but I think i got a lemon. I also have 15" MacBook Pro - iPhone 7 (5 -family) etc. I am very disappointed with Apple overall though i am not a fan of windows 10 either... can't win either way.

Uh,

Apple ONLY admitted to slowing down CPUs in iPhone 6/6S/6S Plus models to prevent constant premature battery overheating/thermal shutdown of iPhones that have aging/degrading battery performance under iOS 11.

This slowdown did not affect other older iPhone models, like the 5/5S or even SE models!

This was an iPhone issue ONLY and ONLY affected certain iPhone models.

A reduced priced new battery replacement will return ALL iPhone 6 variants to normal performance and operation.

iPads have larger size and larger capacity batteries and iPad slowdowns have nothing to do with Apple or iOS 11 slowing down ANY iPad model.

My nearly 2-1/2 year old 1st gen iPad Pro and my over 2-1/2 year old 6th gen iPod Touch are all doing fine on iOS 11.

So your iPad slowdowns are from other issues.

Before coming here to complain, did you look in this posting for my possible solutions to your 9.7 inch screen iPad Pro issues to see if any or all of my advice/possible solutions would work for you?

Hmmm???...

my iPad Pro runs iOS 9.3.5. It's perfect. I won't ever update.

Everytime I've updated my Apple devices I had issues and slowdowns believe it or not, I don't care, at least in my case it's true.

I don't trust Apple updates since when I updated for the first time my MacBook Pro 15" mid 2012 from lion to Mavericks; as always Apple encouraged users to update. It was supposed to work perfectly but it was a complete nightmare...lucky I realized that I needed to upgrade my ram to 8gb and my hd to a ssd (at that time you were able to do that on your MacBook PRO)...but Apple didn't never mentioned you would have needed more power in order to get a good performance on your macbook. They were just keeping say : update! Go! It's cool! Yeah! Do it! Fantastic

Obviously People were ****** off and started to give bad ratings and bad feedback due the bad performances of their older devices...until Apple to solve this, decided to get rid of the user's feedback on Mac OS's.

Each New iOS or Mac OS release requires more power to the device so I think it's natural that through the updates devices slowdown gradually (programmed obsolescence or not) ...and that's why (Beside bugs and stuff) I don't update.

I don't need New features, I need a reliable and perfectly working device.

my rule of thumb is: if it works don't fix it

Cheers

The feedback page was public in the App Store, now it's not. This doesn't make any sense to me. Why would you do that? I think they did it to cover the fact that they were receiving too much bad feedbacks, and most of them were talking about bugs and slow performances.

"You just not use an ipad...for any real work then?"

Quite the opposte of that

I use iPad Pro for general purposes, take notes with the pencil and some music app I use for work such as: iRealb, Cubasis, Notion, Bias amp, Bias FX etc.

they work just fine for my needs so why should I take the risk to compromise my iPad reliability and performance?

Same with my MacBook Pro, I'm a pro music producer, I work on sibelius, Cubase etc. on daily basis. Since my experiences with updates, why the heck should I risk to screw up all my work setup if as it is works perfectly for my needs and job? You tell me. Uh right, I almost forgot it, today there is Siri on Mac. Cool.

I experienced all this myself. Everytime an OS/iOS update comes out you can read here and there a lot of people complaining about performances and this or that bug.

what I do expect from Apple is that when they release a new os, it has to be perfect, no matter what it takes, expecially for the pro customers category, we shouldn't be worried about updates!

I just feel like Apple today doesn't pay much attention to quality check on its software like in the past.

Many of my collegues moved back to windows and many others (and me as well) are considering that option.

We don't care all the fancy stuff or the futuristic design nor what Apple things on which i/o ports a PRO COMPUTER should or shouldn't have in 2030 .We just need a powerful, EXPANDIBLE, and reliable machine to work with today.

I'm not angry, I'm just disappointed.

I chose Apple mainly for their secure, efficient and reliable devices for pro use, but today I feel it's not like that anymore.
