iPhone 8 bluetooth issues

My new iPhone 8 is having all kinds of wonkiness with bluetooth. It refused to pair with my AirPods, repeatedly dropped connection to my 2016 car, routinely loses connection with my series 1 watch and refused to connect to unlock my laptop (all things that I had no issues with before moving over from my iPhone 6). Apple support told me to erase all content, reset and go through a reinstall from a backup (and all the password re-entry etc.) which I did wasting a couple hours of my day. Their remote diagnostic said bluetooth was fine and some of my apps (none to be named) had problems necessitating this restoration from backup. Needless to say, the issue does not seem solved. Anyone else having bluetooth issues with the iPhone 8? All of these bluetooth connectivity issues worked flawlessly on the 6 (with iOS11 and all prior iterations I had) so I may just sent the 8 back and live w/ my 3 year old battery for a while longer.....

My problem with the Bluetooth is that at times, even though the iPhone 8 is connected to my vehicle, I have no problem with my Audible app. My phone app is another story. It will work fine for a couple of days and then the phone rings, it will start to answer on the Bluetooth and then switch to the iPhone speaker. At times, it will be connected to Bluetooth, but when I get a call, it will not show on my screen in the car. I’ve tried to restart, remove all Bluetooth devices, reset network settings and reset all settings. I guess the next step is completely erase the phone. My work phone (Galaxy S7) has no problems at all.

I chatted with Apple Support last week and explained about the Bluetooth problems I had and all of the steps I’d taken. The CSR researched the problem and then told me what to try and I was shocked. She simply said, go to Settings/General/About and change the name of the iPhone. That’s it. I’m happy to say, that did it for me.

Granted, before that, I had reset Network settings and then All settings. I’m just surprised it worked. I’m just not sure why it worked.

I have the same intermittent issues as nearly everyone has described in this thread. I drive a 2011 Mazda CX9 and a 2011 Mazda SP25, my iphone 6 worked without a hitch then i received a new iphone 8 courtesy of my job, now the phone will not maintain a connection in either car. I just hope my voice will add to the many other voices and this will be fixed, I have been to the dealer and they have had other customers with similar issues. I have tried every known fix to no avail. I am disappointed that this issue is not even acknowledged by Apple. Fingers crossed for a fix soon.

I have an iphone 7 w/iOS 11 and have a similar problem. When the phone call is more than several minutes the phone will connect to my Bluetooth home phones. This is really annoying. I have to manually switch back to the apple headset. I haven’t noticed the problem when I’m not using the headset. This has been a problem with the new iOS 11 versions. I don’t remember it before that.

I have IPhone 8 Plus with latest software update. The Bluetooth streaming in my Mercedes e350 is terrible. Skips constantly. I can correct the problem by turning off Bluetooth in Settings , turning on again and wait until the car finds last device. If doing short trips, in and out of car constantly this can be pretty annoying. This does not happen with updated 6 plus or 7, owned by others in the family. This is specific to iPhone 8 Plus I purchased. I am seriously thinking of replacing the 8 plus with a 7 plus if Apple does not come with a bug fix soon.

I had a similar problem and after trying everything to fix it, I had to erase my phone and manually add back my apps (ie not use the backup). At some time the backup got corrupted, I guess. I’ve used it for several days and (knock on wood) haven’t had any more problems. Sure it was a pain to do, but my iPhone 8 works right at last!
