iPhone 8 bluetooth issues

My new iPhone 8 is having all kinds of wonkiness with bluetooth. It refused to pair with my AirPods, repeatedly dropped connection to my 2016 car, routinely loses connection with my series 1 watch and refused to connect to unlock my laptop (all things that I had no issues with before moving over from my iPhone 6). Apple support told me to erase all content, reset and go through a reinstall from a backup (and all the password re-entry etc.) which I did wasting a couple hours of my day. Their remote diagnostic said bluetooth was fine and some of my apps (none to be named) had problems necessitating this restoration from backup. Needless to say, the issue does not seem solved. Anyone else having bluetooth issues with the iPhone 8? All of these bluetooth connectivity issues worked flawlessly on the 6 (with iOS11 and all prior iterations I had) so I may just sent the 8 back and live w/ my 3 year old battery for a while longer.....

I just upgraded from the 6s+ to the 8+. I wear Kirkland Signature 6 digital hearing aids synced with my phone. They have worked flawlessly with BOTH of my previous iPhones. Now, when I answer the phone, sometimes the call is in my ears, other times it’s on the phone itself. My digital One Touch glucometer has the same problem. Sometimes after I test my sugar the phone sees the meter, sometimes not. Today I spoke with someone in Apple support. She had me reset all setting on the phone. I tried it and it is still doing the same thing. I am VERY disappointed in Apple. This has a BIG effect on me. I sure hope someone from Apple is reading this a paying attention. I know that I am advising my friends to NOT upgrade to the 8, 8+, or X. I’m starting to see shades of Microsoft.

Good news, I thought and updated my IPhone 8+ to 11.1, hoping this would fix my issue as well.

Unfortunately it didn’t...

I was absolutely sure Apple would fix this with this major update, now I‘m curious whether they are aware of this issue.

Does anyone got a reaction from Apple?

Still hoping, but also warning my friends and anyone asking to update, or even change to iPhone 8, 8+ or X...

I contacted Apple and they did a complete test of my iPhone 8+. They told me that everything is OK with my iPhone but they know the problem. They explicitly mentioned the new BT5.2 standard as the reason for the connection problems and gave me the „advice“ that Mercedes has to update their BT.

In the eyes of Apple it‘s not a bug it‘s a feature and the rest of the world has to follow.😕 On my remark, that the support for the previous BT-Standard should be only a software issue I simply got a shrug of shoulders..

So I will change my advice, either take a iPhone 7(+), or buy a new car that already has BT5.2 implemented and then choose an iPhone 8,8+,X...

In my case I will talk to Mercedes but I think I know the answer... so I will try to change my iPhone 8+ to an iPhone 7+, we will see how obliging Apple will be😕

Apple doesn't create the Bluetooth standards, they have to follow those set by that group just like everyone else. The manufacturer of the Bluetooth chip in the iPhone has the relevant firmware. Apple does not design the chip or write the firmware. The problems occur when some manufacturers improperly coded their firmware/BT profiles under prior versions. This happened with my car and my company updated the firmware on my car.

I am also experiencing the same issue with my 2015 Ford Explorer. I purchased an 8+ last week, and immediately, during my first phone call via bluetooth, my phone calls dropped mid-call. Then, the call miraculously reconnects about 30 seconds later. My bluetooth worked fine with my old model 6.

I am updating my software to 11.1, and they told me to try my phone BT on a different car. If it continues to fail, I will be contacting them again tomorrow.

What on earth is the purpose of an Apple sponsored discussion forum when such an annoying and stupid issue has 3 pages of responses without a single word from Apple itself? I have an iPhone 8, and when I connect to bluetooth in my Audi everything sounds like absolute crap and I sound like crap to the party I am calling. I dropped $1,000 on the phone and warranty and remained loyal over the years for this?? Taking it back to Apple tomorrow and walking over to Verizon to get me a Pixel 2. Apple simply isn't the same company without SJ at the helm.

I have the same issue with my 2012 Volvo. iOS 11 on iPhone 6 worked fine, new iPhone 8 and the phone calls are crackling (sound fine on iPhone speaker, switching back and forth in the same call) and Siri doesn't always register my requests and sounds crackling when it replies. Doesn't affect my streaming music, just phone calls and Siri. iOS 11.1. Frustrating.

Okay, so I'm not crazy! My wife's iPhone 8+ refuses to connect at all with her Honda. I thought it must be a setting somewhere making it reject BT connections, but it connects fine with her FitBit. Never had this problem with her old iPhone 6.

In the car, it shows up as iPhone, but then says 'failed to connect'. Really *****.

I'm not sure if she has updated the very latest iOS, but if not I'll try that next. Hopefully this has been resolved and I'm just late to the party.

Right, so just updated to the latest iOS 11.1

Went out to the van and paired the phone to the media system and seeing the same issue as before.

The phone pair's OK but cannot make hands free calls, contacts list does not become available.

Going to test the iPhone 6+ later as that will be on the latest iOS also and was working before the upgrade to 8+, just want to see if its software or hardware! I'm thinking its hardware at the moment and may be that the 8+ has the latest Bluetooth which my van does not support, if that's the case it may never work if Renault don't update!!

I have the same problem!

Brand new iPhone 8 and the Bluetooth won’t stay connected to anything (watch, headphones, etc). It’s awful! I have friends who are hearing impaired and apple has been wonderful to connect their hearing aids to their phones and other essential devices. Some of them were thinking of upgrading to an iPhone 8... now I get to tell them, don’t you dare! Your quality of life will suffer... Apple please fix this!!!

Update, even though ios 11.1 on my 8+ seemed to help with the on-off-on connection to my 2011 Subaru Outback, I've found that if I turn off Bluetooth via the quick bar, it'll mysteriously turn itself back on when my car tries to find it (I do voice recordings in my car, and I prefer to do them into the iPhone mic instead of the car mic over bluetooth).

Having said all that, my wife's 8 (regular, not plus) with 11.1 is still having on-off-on issues on her 2016 Outback.

This is crazy.

I believe people are referring to iOS 11.1; the latest update. This does not appear to be solving the problem reliably. Again, I think it's a BT 5 issue; there are some compatibility issues w/ BT 4. Regardless, problem is solved for me with downgrade to iPhone 7 (after lots of wasted time and little help from Apple). I think we all wish they would direct some attention to this issue as I would have liked to keep my iPhone 8 and it seems many others are in the same predicament. I did have a senior support tech agree to pass it on to engineering but have heard nothing back (and most likely never will). Good luck to everyone struggling to make it work as intended.
