iPhone 8 bluetooth issues

My new iPhone 8 is having all kinds of wonkiness with bluetooth. It refused to pair with my AirPods, repeatedly dropped connection to my 2016 car, routinely loses connection with my series 1 watch and refused to connect to unlock my laptop (all things that I had no issues with before moving over from my iPhone 6). Apple support told me to erase all content, reset and go through a reinstall from a backup (and all the password re-entry etc.) which I did wasting a couple hours of my day. Their remote diagnostic said bluetooth was fine and some of my apps (none to be named) had problems necessitating this restoration from backup. Needless to say, the issue does not seem solved. Anyone else having bluetooth issues with the iPhone 8? All of these bluetooth connectivity issues worked flawlessly on the 6 (with iOS11 and all prior iterations I had) so I may just sent the 8 back and live w/ my 3 year old battery for a while longer.....

I upgraded to an iPhone 8 six weeks ago and have been going back and forth with Apple for 5 1/2 weeks over this issue. The Bluetooth repeatedly disconnects and reconnects in my 2012 Mazda 3, when the iPhone 5S running iOS 11 worked perfectly before upgrading to the iPhone 8. I’ve had my car checked by the mechanics at the dealership and the Bluetooth in the car is working perfectly (Apple wouldn’t investigate the problem until I’d been to the dealer). I’ve done all the un-pairing and re-pairing, rebooting the phone, doing a full reset of the phone etc. I’ve replicated the problem and sent logs from my phone to Apple and they’ve run diagnostics on my phone remotely and say it’s working properly. I’ve been to an Apple authorized repairer who were unable to replicate the problem on the Bluetooth devices they had in the store and will be providing a report for Apple tomorrow, saying the Bluetooth problem is intermittent and they haven’t been able to reproduce it in the half hour or so that they had the phone.

I’m waiting on a call back from Apple tomorrow but it looks like my only option from here may be to agree to send the phone to Apple interstate and let them run testing on the phone, which means being without a phone for the time it takes (I don’t have a landline and even if I got my old iPhone 5S back from the person I gave it to, apparently the iPhone 8 SIM card doesn’t fit it) and in all likelihood, them saying there’s no problem. I didn’t purchase the phone outright from Apple and got it as part of a contract with a phone carrier, so can’t return the phone as they will only take it back if I can’t get phone call or internet coverage in my area. According to the Australian Consumer and Competition Commision, that means I’d have to write a letter of demand to the phone carrier saying why the phone is unacceptable and what resolution I’m looking for, then when they refuse to accept a return, will have to escalate it to the telecommunications ombudsman. This process is likely to take a few months if I decide to do it. I’m so ****** off and wish I’d just stuck with the iPhone 5S.

Hey everyone!

I'm having the same issue. I went from a 6 Plus to an 8 Plus and right away I noticed bluetooth issues. First in my car, which has never given me an issue with either my previous Note 3 or the 6 plus. Then I tried pairing my bluetooth earbuds and it was so staticy it was like I was out of range, yet I was within 2 feet of my phone. Now within the past 3 weeks I've noticed where my 8 plus will not notice my car and connect, but it will connect to my bluetooth device used for music to my car radio. (My 08 Altima only does bluetooth calling and not music. I have an input outlet where I use a bluetooth 3.5 jack device. Works great.) Anyway, sometimes it will connect and sometimes it wont. The device says it cannot locate the car. When it finally notices the car, it tries to connect. During this connecting process, the bluetooth radio gets really staticy. Then once the phone is paired to the car, the radio clears up and they both work fine....until the next time I get in the car and it needs to pair to the car....then repeat the process above. This is very annoying. I expect better out of Apple.

I am loading the 11.2.1 update, but not expecting this to solve the issue as others have already posted their disappointment in no resolve.

Just fix it, Apple!!

What do you mean? Can you state your sentence a little clearer with a little more explanation? Thanks!

Again this morning while I sit at my desk working, I'm within 2 feet of my phone and my 8 Plus dropped my bluetooth ear buds and stated that they were not in range, and then connected back to them. My kids have used these same ear buds with their Kindle Fire without issues. How is an $800 iPhone less dependable than a $100 Kindle Fire?

Edit: Looking back at your reply, I understand. I have deleted all bluetooth devices and added them back. This works for a while, then after reconnecting them, the issue start. While I typed this, my phone dropped the connection and reconnected. This is getting old....fast....

Chalk up both my parents iPhone 8 pluses for this issue. Mom and Dad can’t keep a steady connection to their Mazda CX-9 or F150. The connection keeps dropping and reconnecting and the same goes for my iPhone X and my F250 as well as my escort passport max 360 radar detector. This is really annoying I would expect better from a 1000 dollar phone. My galaxy S8 Company phone has 0 issues with any of these devices staying connected.

I thought this was an interesting update. I’d spent an hour with the mechanic at Mazda when I first got the iPhone 8 to confirm that the Bluetooth in my car was working properly. In late December, I logged a request with Mazda Australia to find out when they would be completing testing of the comparability of the iPhone 8 and iOS 11 with Mazda cars, as I’d been allocated a new case manager with Apple Support (the previous one just stopped replying to my emails) and he had started again with blaming my car instead of the phone or operating system and I wanted to be able to tell him it’s not my car. The case manager has since gone back to saying it’s iOS 11 and that I need to wait for an update to fix the Bluetooth issues but I had a call back from Mazda today. The guy from Mazda said their testing shows the iPhone 8 isn’t compatible with their cars and that they are hoping to release a software update for my car in the next couple of months. There are obviously Bluetooth issues that are more widespread than just comparability with my car, so I’m wondering if the testing showed the iPhone 8 is incompatible because it’s running on iOS 11, which is causing the Bluetooth to not work correctly? Or whether there’s an iOS problem plus iPhone 8 comparability problem?

I am also having so many issues with my iphone 8plus. Here are the connections I have tried

Nissan altima 2012 (software upgraded to latest) to 8plus

Plantronics voyager legend to 8 plus

Plantronics 5200 series to 8 plus

Bose soundlink on ear headset to 8 plus

Plantronics beat sense to 8 plus

I can confirm that all of them are having the same issues where is my 6 plus was working with out any issues.

My problem with the Bluetooth is that at times, even though the iPhone 8 is connected to my vehicle, I have no problem with my Audible app. My phone app is another story. It will work fine for a couple of days and then the phone rings, it will start to answer on the Bluetooth and then switch to the iPhone speaker. At times, it will be connected to Bluetooth, but when I get a call, it will not show on my screen in the car. I’ve tried to restart, remove all Bluetooth devices, reset network settings and reset all settings. I guess the next step is completely erase the phone. My work phone (Galaxy S7) has no problems at all.

Same here. I have a new iPhone 8 and it won't work with Philips BT100 speakers.

This iPhone 8 worked perfectly with another Bluetooth speaker, so it's not the iPhone.

The speakers work perfectly with an iPhone 7 that also runs iOS 11, so it's not the iOS.

The speakers work perfectly with an Android phone, so it's not the speakers.

For process of elimination I think it's my iPhone 8. Right out of the box, by the way, so it already came with the factory reset. And I've rebooted it a couple times, and updated to the latest iOS.

I recently lost my iPhone7 so l brought the new iPhone 8 because I really like the Qi wireless charging function. I cannot believe it cannot connect with my wireless headphones, which I use everyday for work and travel. My iOS is the latest 11.2.2 version. So are there any ways to fix the connection problem? Is it hardware or firmware or software issues? I am really disappointed with Apple. It’s amazing how one guy can make such a huge quality difference. Apple product quality is clearly going down hill by the day!!

am not sure what is the issue exactly but it seems that it can be fixed by through firmware but till now apple did not highlight the issue as it is affecting all iphone 8 and 8 plus. (not sure about iphone X). which is a lack of customer care from Apple. as everyone is complaining and no response from Apple to at least acknowledge the problem and highlight it. it is soooo disappointing. apple products and services are degrading day by day which is leading to seek other competitors in the future
