iPhone 8 bluetooth issues

My new iPhone 8 is having all kinds of wonkiness with bluetooth. It refused to pair with my AirPods, repeatedly dropped connection to my 2016 car, routinely loses connection with my series 1 watch and refused to connect to unlock my laptop (all things that I had no issues with before moving over from my iPhone 6). Apple support told me to erase all content, reset and go through a reinstall from a backup (and all the password re-entry etc.) which I did wasting a couple hours of my day. Their remote diagnostic said bluetooth was fine and some of my apps (none to be named) had problems necessitating this restoration from backup. Needless to say, the issue does not seem solved. Anyone else having bluetooth issues with the iPhone 8? All of these bluetooth connectivity issues worked flawlessly on the 6 (with iOS11 and all prior iterations I had) so I may just sent the 8 back and live w/ my 3 year old battery for a while longer.....

Possible fix to some of the issues. We had an appointment at the Apple Store last night and discussed this issue with them. My wife's Ford Explorer was dropping the bluetooth out intermittently during phone calls and even when not in a phone call. Her watch would also disconnect at times. The weird thing was we discovered that she could play music and it would not drop out when streaming music through bluetooth. We told the Apple Genius that we had restored the phone from a backup several times and that did not fix the issue. The Apple Genius felt strongly that the backup had something corrupt about it so he suggested that we restore this as a new phone and not restore from the backup any longer. We had to manually save all of the photos and contacts to a hard drive before doing this. Once we restored this phone as a new phone, we then added all of the photos and contacts again from the hard drive. We also had to add all of the apps manually. Finally, we tested making phone calls several times and we have not had an issue once. This may help some of you in the future. It is a long process so be prepared for this to take a few hours depending on the amount of files that you have. Good luck!

Hey everyone!

I'm having the same issue. I went from a 6 Plus to an 8 Plus and right away I noticed bluetooth issues. First in my car, which has never given me an issue with either my previous Note 3 or the 6 plus. Then I tried pairing my bluetooth earbuds and it was so staticy it was like I was out of range, yet I was within 2 feet of my phone. Now within the past 3 weeks I've noticed where my 8 plus will not notice my car and connect, but it will connect to my bluetooth device used for music to my car radio. (My 08 Altima only does bluetooth calling and not music. I have an input outlet where I use a bluetooth 3.5 jack device. Works great.) Anyway, sometimes it will connect and sometimes it wont. The device says it cannot locate the car. When it finally notices the car, it tries to connect. During this connecting process, the bluetooth radio gets really staticy. Then once the phone is paired to the car, the radio clears up and they both work fine....until the next time I get in the car and it needs to pair to the car....then repeat the process above. This is very annoying. I expect better out of Apple.

I am loading the 11.2.1 update, but not expecting this to solve the issue as others have already posted their disappointment in no resolve.

Just fix it, Apple!!

Chalk up both my parents iPhone 8 pluses for this issue. Mom and Dad can’t keep a steady connection to their Mazda CX-9 or F150. The connection keeps dropping and reconnecting and the same goes for my iPhone X and my F250 as well as my escort passport max 360 radar detector. This is really annoying I would expect better from a 1000 dollar phone. My galaxy S8 Company phone has 0 issues with any of these devices staying connected.

I am also having so many issues with my iphone 8plus. Here are the connections I have tried

Nissan altima 2012 (software upgraded to latest) to 8plus

Plantronics voyager legend to 8 plus

Plantronics 5200 series to 8 plus

Bose soundlink on ear headset to 8 plus

Plantronics beat sense to 8 plus

I can confirm that all of them are having the same issues where is my 6 plus was working with out any issues.

Same here. I have a new iPhone 8 and it won't work with Philips BT100 speakers.

This iPhone 8 worked perfectly with another Bluetooth speaker, so it's not the iPhone.

The speakers work perfectly with an iPhone 7 that also runs iOS 11, so it's not the iOS.

The speakers work perfectly with an Android phone, so it's not the speakers.

For process of elimination I think it's my iPhone 8. Right out of the box, by the way, so it already came with the factory reset. And I've rebooted it a couple times, and updated to the latest iOS.

Yes, I am having a similar issue and Apple is singularly unhelpful. You would have sworn I was on the phone getting Windows 10 "support."

I just bought an iPhone 8 Plus to replace my iPhone 6, which worked perfectly in my 2013 Honda Accord.

The problems are these:

1.) The HandsFree Link system in my Honda either no longer sees my contacts or sees them briefly and then loses them.

2.) The voice commands to the phone do not work.

3.) Calls may be made via Bluetooth using the handset to select the contact or the number. But the sound quality of the call is absolutely terrible. The same is true for incoming calls.

4.) The "handshake" between the iPhone and the car seems very tenuous.

Therefore the phone is, far practical purposes, not usable in my car.

I have been to the Apple store three times now. I have done everything that has been asked of me. The phone has been reset numerous times, etc., etc.

Even though there are multiple reports of this problem on the forums, any time you talk to Apple, the person you speak with seems to have never heard of it.

This is exactly the kind of crap that I came to expect from Microsoft.

Hello there....so sorry to hear that you’re having all sorts of issues with your new iPhone 8, but I too am having major connectivity, texting and battery issues with my new iPhone eight also. The phone cOnstantly loses the connection in my car, especially when trying to use the navigation in the car it’s a pain having to use the phone and turn on the phone speaker just hear the directions. I I can’t pick up any other Bluetooth items like an earpiece or headphones etc. When I’m in the middle of trying to reply to a text the entire text area is completely gone without a keyboard.... it’s just blank. I have to literally turn off the phone and restart and renter the text in order to continue. I cannot do a hard boot with this phone either. Since day 1, it also loses battery life way too quickly and I have to constantly keep it charged like I had to do with my old iPhone 6 phone. This, I feel, should not be happening with a brand new phone. It also takes for ever to start up the phone . When I got

my new iPhone eight, I got my son the iPhone X and he has no issues with his.... it’s lightning fast, and takes awesome pictures. The phone is amazing and I think I just want to get rid of this phone and get The X myself. If you have any questions, you can give me a shout. I’m just glad to know I’m not the only one with iPhone 8 issues.....so sorry to say ☹.

That’s probably true. Samsung Galaxy S8 has the same Bluetooth version and they’re having similar problems. It’s just been hit or miss with solutions because everyone’s situation is different. If we all were using the same phone with the same version trying to use the Same Bluetooth device, maybe things would be different. Good luck to you all!

I’ve spent at minimum 15 hours on the phone or chats with Apple (probably a lot more than that), as well as visiting an Apple repair store twice and spending an hour at the car dealership. In my last conversation a couple of days ago after I escalated the issue from what they call a senior advisor to a product specialist, I was told that it only seems to be a small number of people affected, so it hasn’t been given the priority of something like the 2 December crashes that we’re affecting the majority of users. I had a bit to say about that and once again told them about all the complaints on forums and explained how much time I’ve spent on this issue during normal business hours, which most people don’t have the capacity to do because they’re at work. I also said that it’s unscceptable that I’ve purchased a product that has a major feature that’s not operating properly and that I’ve been going around in circles with them for over two months. She was escalating it to the engineering team again on Monday and supposed to call me back yesterday but didn’t call. I’m so over this and if I could just return the phone without having to spend months going through a complaint process with the phone carrier and telecommunications ombudsman, then I would. I bought my phone on a plan with a carrier so can’t return it to Apple and the carrier only accepts returns if there’s a problem with their mobile phone coverage.
