Iphone 8 not wireless charging

I have a Chevrolet Tahoe that has a charging pad on the center console. Putting the iPhone 8 on the pad does nothing. I know the charging pad works because it charges a Samsung phone.

I posted this same message on another forum about wireless charging, but seeing I started this thread, I figured I would update it to. Sooooo....

So after messing around with this forever, I think I finally have it working. I have a 2017 Denali HD that came with the wireless charger that wouldn't work with my iPhone 8. I ordered the wireless charger module for a 2018 Denali HD part number 13521066 from needgmparts.com. It was 97.65 plus shipping. The new charger module has a different plug but uses the same 3 wires. I ordered the new plug from Mouser electronics part number 571-2035363-4 . It cost 71 cents. I easily unpinned the old connector. When installing the new connector, the pins on the wires had a little "nub" sticking out on one side that wouldn't allow me to slide it into the new connector. I took a small pliers and just squeezed these "nubs" down so they were flush. The pins then slid in easily and clicked in place securely. Plugged the new wireless module in and put the lid for the center console back together and it seems to be working the way it should now. Little green lightning bolt shows up on the screen when phone is on the charge pad. I can pick the phone up, set it back down and it starts charging again immediately. It's not really that finicky about where it is on the pad.

I just changed the water pump in my 2012 Traverse. I had to machine my own tools to do it so I didn't need to lift the block out of the front end - You need to take the front tires off to change the bulbs in the headlights - the alternative is pay the dealership for labor costs that would have included lifting the engine out of the vehicle and the cost to do so would net you an iPad Pro.

Are you seriously blaming Apple for GM's behavior?

Re: My iPhone 8 will not work on the Qi charging mat in my Cadillac.

You're going from forum to forum on this defending Apple for a defect on a product you don't own, for a vehicle you don't drive. I'm not asking about some third party charger; I'm asking about something on the largest car manufacturer in the country. A company the size of Apple does have validation and testing. I am perfectly well allowed to be angry that something like this could slip through the cracks.

LOL.....I'm not defending Apple anymore than I'm being critical of GMC. Your expectation that Apple would make a product that is retro-capable with your GMC which was made before the phone came out is ridiculous. But you own a car that has a charger that won't charge your phone. So what options do you have? Do you think Apple's going to redesign and replace your phone so it will charge in your GMC? Do you think GMC is going to replace the charging pad in your car to work with iPhone? Neither scenario is likely. Your anger over this is frankly childish.

Hi Jimmy, you seem to know a great deal and your CMPIT surname alludes to you having a strong computer related background in addition to your automotive maintenance skills. So, I'd like to read your opinion on this - the more technical the better:

I have Samsung S7, S8, Note 8 phones that all charge wirelessly in my 2017 GMC charging cradle.

I have a Samsung Fast Charge Wireless charging pad that also charges these devices in addition to my iPhone 8 and X.

I have a cheap $15 Pleson desk stand wireless charger that also charges all these devices.

However, the iPhone 8 and X do not charge in my GMC, but my X charged in a new 2018 GMC.

GMC released a statement that iPhones 8, 8+, X will not work in 2016, 2017 vehicles, and said that Apple devices are not compatible. - this is from the GMC rep this morning but I haven't found this printed anywhere.

What do you think the issue is? I doubt Apple is to blame, as their devices charge everywhere else. But is there a wireless charging standard that are included in some models of wireless chargers or devices that GMC and Apple don't match up on?

Thank you for the info. I am going to swap out the module in my Cadillac ATS. The wireless charging module is in the hidden cubby behind the HVAC controls. Unfortunately, I do not have the room to re-pin the connector. There is only about 1/2" of slack on the harness/connector. I'd like to make an adapter harness. I see you have supplied the new connector part number from mouser but would you have any way to find the part number for the female version of the old module? The goal would be to buy both connectors, pin them accordingly and plug that into the existing vehicle harness then into the new module. The only other option is to tear my dash apart. I want to avoid doing that.
