Iphone 8 not wireless charging
I have a Chevrolet Tahoe that has a charging pad on the center console. Putting the iPhone 8 on the pad does nothing. I know the charging pad works because it charges a Samsung phone.

I posted this same message on another forum about wireless charging, but seeing I started this thread, I figured I would update it to. Sooooo....
So after messing around with this forever, I think I finally have it working. I have a 2017 Denali HD that came with the wireless charger that wouldn't work with my iPhone 8. I ordered the wireless charger module for a 2018 Denali HD part number 13521066 from needgmparts.com. It was 97.65 plus shipping. The new charger module has a different plug but uses the same 3 wires. I ordered the new plug from Mouser electronics part number 571-2035363-4 . It cost 71 cents. I easily unpinned the old connector. When installing the new connector, the pins on the wires had a little "nub" sticking out on one side that wouldn't allow me to slide it into the new connector. I took a small pliers and just squeezed these "nubs" down so they were flush. The pins then slid in easily and clicked in place securely. Plugged the new wireless module in and put the lid for the center console back together and it seems to be working the way it should now. Little green lightning bolt shows up on the screen when phone is on the charge pad. I can pick the phone up, set it back down and it starts charging again immediately. It's not really that finicky about where it is on the pad.
This fix hasn’t worked for everyone for some reason. For me it works if the phone is on the charge pad before I start the truck. Then after that if you remove and replace it, it won’t start charging again. Also, the plug on the 2017 and 2018 modules are different. So it isn’t a simple swap out. Need to change the plug on the wiring in the counsole too.

Check out this forum for more info on a wiring harness and part numbers. There is a user by the name of “pgamboa” who may be working on one or be able to get you the part numbers from mouser to make one. I did read that one user was able to use the same plug and “persuade” it to fit on the 2018 module. Not sure I would like that idea though.
The 2018 works with iPhone it’s Qi compatable.
The 2017 and earlier are not... I personally tested this.
THE QUESTION IS can we swap the coil under the console OR swap the lids?
I believe only the 2018 models work with the new Apple stuff due to the Qi certification/capability on the charging pads.
Has anybody asked a dealer what it would cost to swap the '17 and '18 charging pads? The labor should be minimal and the part should under $100. I just called my dealer to try and find out the cost and I will let you all know. This would be the easiest fix for this situation unless you want to wait for GM to fix it which they probably won't do.
The 2018 is a different wireless module with a different part number. The 2018 module also has a different connector as well. The part number for the 2017 and earlier is 2324878. Part number for the 2018 is 13521066. I never switched the rubber pad/mat if that’s what you’re referring too?
Another option to solve the problem is the Brandmotion universal Qi wireless charging kit FDMC-1210 that can be used to retrofit 2016-17 GM vehicles. The Qi module from the kit can replace the GM module to make the system work.
The best choice you have is to purchase a mophie battery case for your phone. It charges wirelessly just perfect in my 2017 HD Duramax.
GM does not show iPhone 8 as a compatible or non compatible device on their supported list, but the do show the 6+ and 7+ as not supported due to their size. You would need to speak with GM.
In the mean time you have 14 calendar days to the return the device to Apple for a full refund if you are not satisfied with it.
It's unrealistic to expect Apple to build a phone that works with every single charging plate on the market. It's likely not charging because the QI charging coil on your cars charging pad is not in the right spot for your iPhone. It's unfortunate the GM charging pad doesn't work with Apple iPhone, but you can't be mad at Apple or GM. They just don't speak well together. My 2016 Mercedes doesn't have a charging pad at all. Oh well, I'll just have to use the lightning plug or if I really feel QI charging is that fabulous, I'll buy an aftermarket QI pad for my car.
Regardless of the size of the company, if they are making a charger for an iPhone and they are not Apple, they are making a third party charger.
If if you think that Apple tests their devices with every third party charger out there, you’re quite mistaken. And why would Apple make their brand new phone backwards compatbile with older chargers? Why is incumbent upon Apple to do that? This is, of course, assuming that GM was telling you the truth.
Car manufactures have been doing an awful job of supporting cell phones for years and blaming it on the phone manufacturers. Mercedes‘s list of suppored phones used to run about two years out of date. Bluetoth made things a lot better but not perfect. Car manufactures tend to be slow with software updates.
Absolutely.
It can be fickle, BUT nothing to do with this arrangement in my opinion... I had a wireless charging case on a 7 BEFORE I got the 10 and did this fix AND it was the same way...
BOTH ways required it to be in a very specific place, for me all the way at the "bottom" touching the little ridge/lip.
The "repeater" as we are calling it (and housing), is glued so be careful removing.
I use mine daily.
I am working with my local GMC dealer to find a solution. I tried my iPhone X in a 2018 Yukon and the wireless charging worked. I have a 2015 and have the same issue works with Samsung but not apple. The numbers in the pad (console) match 2015 and 2018. So looks like same charging pad and they are saying it may just be a software update.
Hop off your high horse. My GM wireless charger works with the phones that wirelessly charged that were on the market when the vehicle was released. Were they supposed to have spec'd out the wireless charger for a nonexistent product at that time? The burden is 100% on Apple.
Does the Brandmotion Qi option show the device charging on screen of the infotainment system? In my case, the phone is hidden away in a cubby. The only way to know if its charging is the onscreen indicator on in the infotainment systems screen.
