I set “change with buttons” on and then used the side buttons to lower the volume.

I had this same issue and just figured out how to fix it. Go to “Settings” and then “Sounds and Haptics” and from there, you’ll see “Ringer and Alerts” where you can adjust your alert volume. Mine was really low, now I can hear it. Hope this helps!

I agree. It would make sense to have individual settings for many things be independent of each other. For example, ring volume (usually max for me) should be separate from alarm volume (about med for me). Notifications, mail chimes, game sounds, ads, and probably a few more should all have their own settings.
I have this setting turned on and it’s not fixing the blaring alarm
Yes! Thank you, Christina! I was dying.
@Apple, this is what help looks like. If you’re going to put out a nightmare of an update you need to provide more then just the “standard” link to a prepopulated response.
I have the same problem since I’ve installed the latest update .
Side volume buttons has always been (since iPhone 1) use to adjust sound volume while on iTunes or other app and to adjust ring volume while on home screen or alarm .
It’s a basic, primery function and it must be accessible easily via one button action, not through step process: settings- sounds & haptics- sliding bar adjustment!!!
I hope Apple will address and fix this uncomfortable issue soon!!!
Yes!! Since when do I want the volume to be the same level for EVERYTHING???!!! I just got the latest updat 11.2.5 and it has not been fixed. None of the suggestions made will work. I can manually change the volume sound on my alarm but when it goes off, it’s the same volume as my ringtone & notifications. I’m getting really frustrated with it, I hope apple fixes this! I have iPhone 7
I agree, opposite problem! I have the volume turned all the way up on the phone because I work in a louder environment. I only need a little volume to wake up but currently I can wake up the neighbors! My wife hates my iPhone's alarm and constantly bugs me to switch to Android for the independent alarm control. I have looked for specialized Apps but haven't found anything that will give me this option.
I have the identical problem and nothing works (snooze off, ...). As soon as I look at my IPhone X (iOS11.2.5) the alarm switches to the volume that I set it to, but before it blares at the "ringers and alerts" volume. So frustrating!
Why can't Apple just program a little slider button to control the alarm volume as opposed to building it in the Ringer and Alerts volume controls?
Same issue, opposite problem. I turn the volume way down for my alarm and it is BLARING when it goes off. Will try the fix.

I don't even have this setting. Nothing to do with "Haptics".
😕
I have the same problem. Volume level on phone is set low but alarm is blaring loud. I can’t find a way to make the alarm volume adjust to what I have my ringer volume set as.
This worked!
Me too! I thought I was crazy. After installing update 11.0 I wasn’t waking up on time cause I slept through alarm!
With the iOS 11 update, Alarm volume extremely low.
