iPhone keeps disconnecting from WiFi

It seems that my 6S running iOS 11 will frequently disconnect from my home WiFi. When I go into the first settings page to see what's up, it will show that no WiFi is connected I then have to go into the next page to see the list of Networks and then have to choose my home network. Eventually, when the phone is sleeping, it will disconnect from WiFi. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Actually i tried this already in older IOS version like 9 and 10. It didn't help. Yesterday I upgraded my phone to 11.2.5 and fortunately your trick works.
I realize that this issue just happen with wireless which have captive portal authentication. It my environment, user must login via the authentication portal everyday. If we turn off autologin it won't pop up the portal automatically. Anw, i'll tell user try that trick. And when they want to login, just turn autologin on, and then turn it off after connected. Thank you.

I have the same issue, but since 3 days. My iPhone is disconnecting from the wifi every minute, ex:LTE, HomeWIFI, LTE, HomeWIFI, etc.... I rebooted the network, tried different setting, renamed my SSID, Installed iOS 11.2.5 (after the problem appears), I restarted and cleaned the memory of my iPhone, etc.... I noticed that the WIFI is low and high by moment without explanation. I also needed to re-enter the password on my known network's. I have two other iPhones in the same house, but neither shows this behavior. Other computers, phones and printers stay connected. It seems to be a software or a hardware troubleshooting. Does anyone have clues ?

I have a iPhone 6+ and when I have iPhone problems instead of going to the discussion page for iPhone answers what I do is very simple I call Apple Care and its free for me and the number for Apple Care is 800-692-7753. Apple Care has 9 levels and if level 1 can't help you solved the issues you are having then ask for level 2 and so on to level 9 is the highest. If the issue comes back again then call Apple Care and give your case number to the first person who answer your call. Problem solved.

Please check your wifi network is selected as home network or public network

1) If it’s selected as home network then it will not get disconnected after a network reset

2) if it’s selected as public network as per IOS a safety feature and battery saver option kicks in which allows the wifi to connect only when you are using your cell.

Hope it works

I just had to deal with this problem, after getting a message I had chewed through $60 of prepaid data and now $0! Never had this happen in 5yrs until I did the update!

After much searching I found the ‘auto join’ suggestion....which was off. Since activating this for my home wifi so far no problems and using my home wifi rather than the small data allowance I have.

Wish i knew this may happen before the update!

Unfortunately this did not work for me. I'm pretty savvy with home networking and followed your (solid) suggestion to the letter. Upon rebooting of my router and reattaching my iPhone to the network I did get a new IP address assigned, so I'm certain I did everything I could. Five minutes later my 6s (on 11.2.6) dropped off the network and continued to do so.

I truly believe this is an Apple issue and I hope it is resolved soon.

I have the very same problem with my iPhone and my iPad. I am in contact with Apple support. I am able to reproduce this problem by pressing the power button. After a few seconds of standby, the WiFi connection is gone. This is not a problem with the router.
a.) It is reproducable in other environments

b.) Other devices (non iOS) remain connected

The problem exists with 5GHz as well as with 2.4GHz.

For testing I have turned auto-reconnect off.

It seems (but I have to test that again to confirm) that open WiFis (w/o WPA2) are a lot more stable on iOS devices.

Cheers,

Hey, so I’ve got the same issue and the link that you sent didn’t help me because it only mentioned if I’m unable to connect to the wifi but my issue here is that one I’m connected to the Wifi and use it for a long time or put it on sleep next to me everytime I open it up again I see my cellular data on instead of my Wifi logo ...

Thank you . (Iphone7)

An Update from Apple support. After a conversation and a structured report, on what is happening, Apple suggested that it must be a hardware issue and that I should send in my phone or go to an Apple store. My suggestion that it is rather unlikely that different devices (iPhones and iPad) simultaniously decide to have the exact same hardware issue didn't raise any eyebrow on the other side of the phone line. Nor did the fact that I can actually reproduce this problem with my iOS 11.2 devices. I will not spend the time and take my device to an Apple store, where I have to start all over again by reproducing the phenomenon. It could be a broader 11.2 issue, judging by similar posts. Unfortunately Apple doesn't seem to be interested in our problems or our help in locating the cause. Too bad...
