Apple TV 4K - Control TVs and Receivers

It’s not common for a bug to effect 100% of products. That is why there is testing and beta releases to work out the random issues that pop up on some devices. We are just the unlucky bunch that have the right combination of hardware that is having a compatibility issue with this version of the software. Encouraging to hear it may be worked out in the next software release

Interesting, I have the latest PB and still having the same issues with CEC. Hope it is fixed soon. Also, the same issue did occur on my Apple TV 4th gen, which does lead me to believe it's a tvOS issue, not a hardware issue.

@Rod1239 Do you mean 3rd reset or restart? So the "Control TVs & Receivers" is set to "On" and it's staying On? Mine will NOT toggle from "Off" to "On."

Has anyone else here been able to resolve this issue yet?

@Tech-T – do you have the PB updates turned on or only official releases? Did you restore to factory settings and not have it restore your home screen? I'm willing to give this a try if it's worth the pain of a factory restore..

So this morning I updated to latest PB. Then I unplugged everything – receiver, TV and AppleTV. I plugged them back in one and a time and was able to change "Control TV & Receivers" to ON. It is sticking so far. Let's hope it stays.

Having exact same issue as described herein this thread. Will try to unplug each component (newer Panasonic TV w/ CEC aka VIERA-Link, newer Pioneer Elite Receiver w/ CEC, and my 4th Generation [non-4K] AppleTV 64gb) and see if the menu option becomes ‘not’ greyed-out. This worked without an issue before I moved, then I reconnected the exact same 3 pieces of equipment as described in parentheses above and it doesn’t work; so aggravating.

OK well so much for posting that reply. I am plugged the new 4K Apple TV and plug it back in and now they control remote TV option is not greyed out. I set it to on

I submitted a bug report as well so it’s being looked into at least.

Out of curiosity, what do you use for audio from your TV to your receiver that worked with CEC? Does your TV have HDMI out? Thanks!

Yeah that's the same as ours – I was wondering what @mickc82 was using..

I see this too. In order to be able to turn it on, restart the Apple TV. It’s an Apple TV 4K bug for sure.

Does anyone have any updates to this?

That's great to hear! Did they actually acknowledge that there is an issue with this? Very happy that they should be addressing – thank you!
