IOS 11 Keyboard lag

Hi everyone,

I have an iphone 6s and ever since i upgraded into ios11 i've been having trouble with my keyboard (independently of the app I'm using, so i assume it's a ios problem). The fact is that the keyboard lags A LOT! I actually type much faster than the words/key pressed highlight shows on the phone. This includes symbols... i might finish typing my text (blindly, since the keabord doesn't react fast enough), and wait +/-3seconds before the whole text is shown in the screen... i never had this problem before (it's one of the things i've always liked about the iphone is how reactive the keyboard is with the auto correct and suggestions).

This is a really annoying problem. I've tried to switch off the different keyboard features (automatic correction,...) but i still have the same problem.

Is there a fix for this?

Thanks for your help

I have experienced the same issue you outlined across multiple devices including the iPhone 6s, 8plus, and X. I have a case outstanding with Apple support but there has not been a fix sent to me yet.

However, this is what I've done to work around the issue. Download a third party keyboard of your choice (I'm using SwiftKey). Set up the permission for use. Go to settings, general, keyboards and add the third party keyboard. Then, remove all other keyboards so you only have the third party listed. Go back to the general keyboard settings and toggle off all settings such as auto-cap, auto-correction, etc. Restart the phone.

This work around has worked so far. Hoping Apple has a fix soon.

This issue is effecting my iPhone 7 too. It happend immediately after updating to iOS11. After 5+ updates it is still not fixed and rather disappointing. The only way I can fix it is to close every other app. I loved iOS because it was something. I never had to worry about, while my Android using friends were constantly closing apps.

Craig Federighi, wth happened with this release?

I have this problem too. For me, it is beyond just some delays, it's a huge issue. I cannot send the full text of messages I want to send, I look unprofessional as my typing is getting messed up, etc. Just typing any random character sequence, locks it up for 8 seconds or more. For each edit. In the middle of a professional exchange. Thus taking *minutes* to respond.

I have a (4 month old) 6S that this is happening on. So, I bought a iPhone 8 and tried using it instead. First from backup, then, using the only solution they are giving me, which is to NOT USE MY BACKUP, set up a phone from scratch. Given I had no choice, I tried that. Guess what, only a hour into that work of setting it up... the iPhone 8 was starting to exhibit the SAME PROBLEM. This is a fresh phone, no backup, no "bad software stuck in the backup".

This is just unacceptable. Apple, we need a solution. This is affecting my well-being.

Hi everyone,

after switching to the iPhone X and possibly after updating to iOS 11, I have experienced these random keyboard lags almost every day. It is totally annoying, since we talk about a smart phone for over 1300€ (- German price, i.e., approx 1500$).

A restart always helps for a little while but latest after one day heavy lagging starts again. I am very astonished that this has not been fixed yet. I tried the fix with removing textinput from the backup list but I am not very confident that it will help (at least immediately after i did that, the problem occurred again).
Maybe switching to another software keyboard could help...

Best,

Martin

Since this is Apple, you only have two choices two avoid performance issues:

1. Buy the latest Apple device, and repeat after every new iOS.

2. Switch to another brand. (that solved all my iPhone issues).

Otherwise you will have a device that will just get worse on every update, even if you believe that the new called new features should not slow down a device, it is known that Apple is capable and willing to slow down your device using software updates. If you are ok with that just keep buying devices every year, otherwise switch to another brand.

If you have performance issues with iOS most likely they will not be solved because looks like we belong to a minority and just exagerating things.

Thanks you for your help.

Turning off and on the iPhone didn't change anything (I had tried it before, and retried it last night).

Since there was a upgrade last night, i've installed that, but i still have the same problem. It seems to be a bit faster than before, but it still lags! I'm willing to try the complete re-install of the iOS (haven't gotten around to it yet), but i was wondering if just the update that i did yesteday should be enough to fix it or not.

Thanks again for the help

Hi

I have a similar problem when I type in numbers using the phone keypad it can take 8 secs before they appear! Only happened after upgrade and have cleared phone and reinstalled software and still have the same problem. Anyone else experiencing this? Waisted about 4 hours trying to fix ... why did I accept the upgrade? 🙄

Apple for goodness sake, I have had this problem since moving off IOS 10 on my iPhone 6, have upgraded every version of IOS 11.x available.

From all the posts on this even blind Freddy can see you introduced an issue into your software 11 upgrade.
