Exchange mail not incoming in Mail

Since I updated my MacBook Pro to macOS High Sierra, my Mail app has been acting strange.

At first it synced all my mails (through an iCloud, a Gmail as well as an Exchange account), but today I've not received any more mails on my Exchange account. I'm receiving the mails on my iPhone, so I know it's not the server or anything. Mails are coming in on the other accounts though.

I've tried disabling the Exchange account, removing and re-adding it as well as testing if it sends/receives. When I tried to send a mail from the account to myself (same e-mail address), the app crashed and started looping as in starting with a new message window, crashing again, opening,...

I really don't know what to do because macOS High Sierra is brand new and I can't find anything on the same issue.

If you know a solution, feel free to post it here.

Thanks in advance!

Greetings

Vince

I upgraded to 10.13.1 but the situation is worsening!
Before if I was closing Mail App and then reopening it all the mail get synchronised the first time but not updating with new ones.

Now on opening Mail App nothing happen, no more new mails and synchronisation!!
Apple for this time made things WORSE instead the, as allwais, resolving issue.

Hey up there, if you are listening, wake UP!!

Diane - a few posts up in the thread describes that the 10.13.1 does not fix the problem that some of us have.

I'm still in contact with a senior advisor, but not fix yet. For me there is one reliable way to fetch mail from the Exchange server I have problems with, so that indicates to me that there must be a fix possible from the Apple side.

BTW, that one way is to be on a different email account when I quit Mail and then start Mail and then click on the Exchange account. It pulls in new mail then but no other time.

Hi Benny

I tested this (some time after you posted it, I know) and it works.

When I contacted Apple Support about the issue and explained them how the issue persists, they told me the problem lies with my mail server.

It's difficult to arrange something with the tech support here (external IT firm delivers mail server for our company) so I can not test their suggestion. Have you come any closer to a solution?

Kind regards

Vince

Hi Lindel

Thank you for your answer.

However, I experience the issue using the standard Mail app on macOS and not Outlook 2016.

I can not get my Exchange account to work with that version of Outlook because it always gives me the error message "Outlook can only connect with mailboxes running Exchange Server 2010 SP2 or higher" (or something like that, the error message was originally in Dutch), but it always worked with the standard Mail app on normal Sierra.

My guess is that Apple upgraded their security for the standard Mail app and doesn't include support for Exchange Servers below 2010 SP2 anymore, just like Outlook 2016. Somewhat of a stupid move, because a lot of people are using the mail servers they are given at work (just like me).

Kind regards

Vince

I suspect your problem is in your User's folder. Please test in a new User to verify. Testing in a new User will quickly tell you if the problem is system wide or if it's your User's folder that contains the problem.

CREATE A NEW USER

Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Users & Groups.

Switch to the New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching.

You can skip logging in with an Apple ID unless you need to test iCloud apps. Hit continue then skip.

Only default Apple apps will be in the Dock in the new User. Go to Applications to open other apps you might want to test.

Open System Preferences > Internet Accounts

Add your Exchange account.

Open Mail

Do you still crash?

This absolutely worked for me, thanks. It's not perfect, but at least I know now how to force a send/receive - I just have to rely on my phone to tell me I have a new email, and then use this method to see it on my MacBook.

Weird thing is, this isn't the only Exchange inbox on my machine - I have one gmail account, and then several Exchange accounts. This issue is only occurring for one of them, so I don't know what the deal is.

I tried changing user. After adding my exchange account to mail the following occurred:

50 messages came into inbox (old)

Sent mail was updated to 5-11-17

I quit mail and restarted mail

Inbox updated to current

sent updated to 7-13-17

I quit mail and restated mail

inbox stayed the same

sent updated to current

I then sent an email to my exchange and immediately got it on my iPhone but it did not update in mail until I closed mail and restarted mail. Same as it has been doing.

Any chance this could be updates needed on the exchange server?

I am having the same problem. I have spent multiple hours on the phone with a senior level technician at Apple. Although she was extremely nice, and tried her hardest to help, the conclusion was that it is an Exchange problem. This is lame because my Mail worked great until the iOS update to High Sierra. Would sure be nice to get it working again. Hopefully someone comes up with a fix.

I just got off of the phone with Apple for the 20th time in the last 2 months. Still no solution. They blame Outlook and Exchange. But, my email service provider hooked up multiple Apple computers that have not set up High Sierra and they all worked. So, I am going to go out on a limb here and say the easy fix is to revert back to the operating system before High Sierra.

Bummer that there hasn't been a solution in the 4 months this iOS has been out..........

I have work to do and all of these 3rd party email apps are not the same......
