Excessively large files with Compressor on High Sierra

Hi,

I just found out that every single files that I export with my own preset on Compressor 4.3.2 since using High Sierra are :

1. Extremely large: One export before High Sierra was 3.75GB now the same file using the same export is 12.82GB for a 7-minutes long video.

2. Do not play smoothly on QT or VLC

FIY, the Estimated file size shown by Compressor is 30.01GB/Hour... How can a 7 minutes long video be 12GB then????

I double check my Custom Settings and they are the same as they used to be.

Am I the only one with this problem? Any ideas??

It's fixed in Compressor 4.4! Well, at least for me with one project exported from FCPX.

So, they say that within a few weeks they are not able to even find out what the problem is, when one of their professional tools does not do the single task it is made for?

Not really surprising when the problem seems to be confined to a small number of systems. They probably can’t find the combination of hardware and software that produces this problem.

Lovely stuff, thanks for the information. I don't have AME any more so will try the Apple Device preset.

The "another method" sounds interesting - looking forward to hearing about that.

Identical issue here. Standard Compressor presets are generating enormous files.

Yes, I've reported. I now know more: I's a problem only on my older MacPros (the huge aluminium ones) - not my iMac 2016. This will be a hard nut to crack for the folks in Cupertino. :-)

The trash can Mac Pros seem to have the problem as well.

They could not replicate the problem and we just tried on my Mac with "Generator" and using Clouds and then Compressor exported the file like it should at the correct size.

They suggested I send them some of my footage to check, which I did... we will see.

FIY, my videos were shot in 4K 8Bit 420 on a GH4 and 4K 10Bit 422 on a GH5, what about you?

Update from Apple

"I wanted to let you know that I received a message from Engineering about your case. The report is that the issue is under investigation but because Apple does not have a complete understanding of the issue, it is not possible at this time to promise a solution or predict when the investigation will be complete. Right now, my best advice is to make sure you are keeping your software up to date in case a solution is provided that way.

Also, there is another possibility you may want to explore if transcoding this media to a desired size is absolutely required but it is a bit cumbersome. If you would like to discuss it, please let me know."

Yes, High Sierra have all my Compressor presets worthless...the files always be in the range of 60-90 mbps after export - whatever I've set (often 10-16 mbps).

I've notised after testing that it's only when you have "multi-pass" - change the preset to "single-pass" and it will behave properly. I hope the Apple tech-people have notised this & I hope they fix it soon (I often want multi-pass :-).
