I bought 2 Apple 4k TVs. One of them works without issue.
The other one will not wake from sleep mode after an extended time. The only way I've found to wake it up is to unplug from power and plug it back in. I've also noticed that it is slightly warm to the touch.
Please report your problem to Apple Support !
This fault of the Apple TV is well known at Apple, but if more people report the problem, it is more urgent for Apple.
This advice is given from Apple Support German to the community.
I did have that problem of turning itself off. Only unplugging/plugging would get power back. I think there is a secret sauce out there for everyone. My first Apple tech support call couldn't get me on the right path. They told me wipe and start from scratch; all that did was waste my time. However, I did a lot of poking around on different forums to get me on the right path. So, good luck. Roku was a simpler device, but I wanted Airplay.

I had the same experience -- we just let the Apple TV go to sleep on its own now and it wakes up fine when the remote is touched.
Latest beta brings back the sleep problem :(
I have the same issue. I went and got it replaced and it still has the same problem. I don't quite know what the problem is, but it isn't a hardware issue.
Same issue here with my 4K ATV. I have to unplug it daily. It’s verty frustrating and I don’t see a fix.
Two new ones work fine. Hardware problem imo.

Yup. Straight from the Apple TV into my TV.
I have the same problem. I am wondering why Apple Tech Support did not answer! I hate doing this to unplug and plug to wake the Apple TV up. 😠
I have the same issue. Brand new ATV 4K, which needs to be power cycled (power cord unplug and plug back) since the remote won't wake up the ATV.
Same, no switch and directly plugged into my tv. I actually had my appletv 4k replaced through the apple store and it still an issue.
Of the 3 AppleTV's we own, the 4k AppleTV has this same issue. I too had a replacement sent to the store and have the issue yet again.
