apple tv 4k won’t wake from sleep

Lights respond on front of ATV4K to remote after going to sleep but it won’t display anything. I have to reboot by replugging power or holding the menu and home buttons for several seconds.

I bought 2 Apple 4k TVs. One of them works without issue.

The other one will not wake from sleep mode after an extended time. The only way I've found to wake it up is to unplug from power and plug it back in. I've also noticed that it is slightly warm to the touch.

Same issue here. I’ve had ATV Gen 2 for 6 years with zero issues. ATV4K has the wake issue daily. Won’t wake up out of sleep mode without a reboot. No light on front, no waking up. Really annoying and disconcerting. What happened to your QA?! Should I drop the Apple ecosystem?? I’m accustomed to high quality products from Apple. This isn’t acceptable. Apple, please respond to this issue. We should not have to reboot the system every time we want to turn on our Apple TV 4Ks. Pour more of those billions $$$ into QA, programming and support.

I have the same issue with my two non-4K Apple TV's (generation 4). I have seen several other posts with similar problem and no solution. My Apple TV's worked perfectly for years and only in the last few months have had this problem. I bought a brand new one a month ago and it had the same problem. So far putting it in "never sleep" mode has worked, but I've only had it set up like this for a couple of days.

Yes, I believe this is consistent with my problem.

It worked well for a couple of years when I would use the Apple TV remote to turn it on and then to put it into sleep mode when done watching.

I switched to a Harmony remote which, to my knowledge, is unable to put the Apple TV into sleep mode so it would go into sleep mode automatically after a certain amount of time defined in the settings. I have not had this problem since switching the sleep mode settings to "never".

Same problem with both my Apple TV's (one 4k and one 4th gen). On the Apple TV remote app under "Devices", they show as Offline. Only way to wake them up is unplugging/replugging the power cord. Resetting with the physical Siri remote has not once worked for me. I've had the 4k since Jan 2018 and the 4th gen since May 2016 and the issue seems to have started at around the same time on both in the past month or so.

I've trying factory resetting both and the issue still persists.

About the same. I’ve called tech support and they weren’t helpful. Blamed it on my tv. I’m on my second appletv 4K soon to try a third and same issues occur - won’t sleep, after idle it will then white screen or flicker to the apps screen on and off unless you unplug/replug in. I can’t believe they haven’t patched this - I have 2 other non 4K Apple TV recent generation and they have been flawless so far. There’s something jacked up with the 4K model and it’s not my Samsung 4K tv - why would the other models work with zero issues?!?

Support had me do a reset which erased everything with new OS. I had to input every password and re-register every single app. This unit is only a few weeks old... Before, it was sporadic with not waking up, plus it would not always turn the TV on or off with the Sleep function. Now, if the unit goes to Sleep on its on, it takes repeatedly pushing the the remote buttons for a couple minutes to wake up.

Support wanted me to bring in if it continues. I don't know if this is a swap or they send out situation leaving me without TV.

This seems to be a terrible design flaw thats been going on for way to long for Apple not to have fixed.

11.3 hasn't helped. I thinking, maybe... the never wake up stemmed from when the Sleep After setting were set to a shorter period.

Last night, it put the box to sleep but failed to turn the TV along with it. I then woke it back up and tried again which then did turned off the TV on the second try.

Then this morning, it refused to turn the TV on. I tried over and over again, but the TV would not turn on. I went to the Samsung remote to turn the power on. Once the TV was powered on, it was open to the Sleep window option.

So, Apple TV really seems to struggle compared to the Roku Ultra that seemed to work seamlessly with operating/controlling the TV.

I don't know what a Genius Bar appointment is going to do if this is, plainly, a software or hardware Apple hasn't figured out.

I don't now what my options are to go back to Roku since this was a promo purchase with DirecTVNow.

I also have the same problem with my ATV 4K. The ATV has been upgraded to the latest TV OS 11.3. I do not have 4K TV, it is connected to 1080p 55" Panasonic plasma TV. I had previous ATV4 and didn't have any issues, but since I got the ATV4K (about 2 months ago), I have been experiencing this issue.

I am going to try different HDMI cable and perhaps play with the HDMI-CEC. I will also try to enable the automatic standby as I usually manually put the ATV4K into the standby.

Still an issue. Updating to 11.3 doesnt help it. Ive continued to troubleshoot and it still will not sleep like my other Apple TVs. Definitely an issue with the 4K version of Apple TV. I attempted to select force sleep by holding down the monitor button on the remote. It shuts down my tv and the appletv as you would expect, but it then the appletv wakes up moments later and stays on.
