"Recovery server could not be contacted" Error Message
What does this mean? I’m trying to reinstall macOS High Sierra! Can’t get past this error message “the recovery server could not be contacted”

I had the same issue after I wiped the drive on my MacBook Pro. When you wiped the drive you selected the wrong format. All you need to do is simply go to disk utilities and erase the drive again, but this time select APFS (Encrypted) rather than just APFS. You may now click Reinstall macOS High Sierra. Side note, make sure you have internet connection in your status bar.

Make sure your machine is connected to the internet. I had to manually connect to my wireless using the network control in the top right of the screen.
I received the same message, but realized I wasn’t connected to internet. Look upper right corner to see if you are connected. Once I connected to wi fi it worked perfect.

I had the same issue on my computer and use your suggestion to put in today’s date. Worked for me too.

are you sure your mac has connected to the internet? please check the right top corner wifi icon.

For me it was because I had not reconnected to my wireless network. Just confirm that you are connected and you should be good to go. Check icon in upper right on the menu bar.
