Time is not displayed on lock screen
After upgrading to IOS 11, my phone no longer shows time on lock screen. Need to unlock the phone to check the time.
iPhone 7 Plus, iOS 11, null
Apple Intelligence is now available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac!
Hi there, burugupalli!
From your post, I see that you have been using iOS 11 and have noticed that since updating, the time no longer appears on your Lock screen. I’d be more than happy to help!
The first recommendation I have is to restart your iPhone, if you have not already. You can follow instructions here to do that: Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support.
If the time still does not show after restarting, make sure your iOS is up to date; iOS 11.0.1 has been released, and may help: Update the iOS on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support.
Should the time still not be visible, please reinstall iOS 11 using the steps under “Put your device in recovery mode and set it up again” here: If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support. Even though the title of the article doesn’t exactly match your issue, the steps to reinstall are the same. Reinstalling iOS 11 won’t remove any content from your iPhone, but I would still recommend backing up before beginning: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support.
If you continue to have trouble with your time displaying on the Lock screen, don’t hesitate to respond back.
Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities! Have a great day.

Hi becky_s22,
I have same problem on my iPhone7 with last version iOS 11.0.1., after factory reset problem still persist. Lock screen is empty and slide left/right (camere of wigets screen) don't work.
I'm also having the same issue in 6s Plus (iOS version 11.0.2). Restarting the phone fix the issue for a while. But after some time, its not visible. Need to restart again to see the Time and Notification.
Been there, done that. I still 'lose' the time on the Lock screen, on and off. I also noticed this in the one before last public beta and notified Apple of this error. Would be nice to see it finally fixed in 11.1.
I installed the latest public beta of 11.1 but the problem is still there, unfortunately. I can't retrace my steps leading up to this error which is a pain. This happens on my own iPhone 5 SE (2 months old) and my wife's brand new 7.The only thing that fixes this is a reboot.
Some one said try changing your back ground, but for me personally i had to restore my phone twice, the first time i restored it from a back up the problem followed me, but the second time i restored it with no back up it seems to be working fine for now. I am really upset i had to go through all of that.
Reading your solution I remembered I had set a 'live' photo as background. Since then I had the same issue with a blank lock screen. I have now changed it to a normal background. if I don't come back, this was the solution. Thanks!
I also have the same problem. I have tried restarting like you said but it doesn’t help. I cannot see my time and notifications on tthe lock screen ever since I updated the iOS. I didn’t want to update but they do it automatically. Apple, could you please let it be when we don’t want to update. I am fine with the old IOS and I don’t use IPhone X or other version that needs the Face ID in the update. That’s just a waste of memory space for me. Please give us a chance to keep the old software we are happy with. So many bugs in the new software.
Seeing same issue on iPhone X iOS 11.2
Specially irritating cause it does not show notifications as well, so while incoming notifications do cause the device to vibrate, none of them are rendered, and then one needs to go and check each and every app to see which one has got an unread notification 😟
I’ve been having the same problem for weeks. Restarting my phone fixes it but only for about an hour then it’s back to the same thing. I tried changing my wallpaper and restarting and that didn’t work. This is SO annoying. Please fix this!!!
It's a temporary solution. I've seen this happen since the first public beta on the iPhone 6S.
What I've found it's related to either a notification that triggers the lockscreen to crash, I've also seen it happen when switching between the lock screen and camera or the notification center (scrolling left/right).
The hard reset always fixes it though, until it crashes again. Sometimes works for days on end without crashing, sometimes crashes multiple times a day.
Seems like more apple stealth, they want us to continually open the phone to even see the time now (Brain washing). Lets face it, this is something a sony-erikson from the 1990's could do consistently. First we get nagged to update, I did mine half asleep without realising, then battery life is slower to the extent Siri doesn't work, now they trying to force us to lose our 3.5mm jack.
I am in 11.2. I have a 7 plus. I had the problem and the phone was replaced. I still had the problem and tried everything, including resetting and restoring from a current iTunes backup, an older iTunes backup and iCloud backup. I had my phone replaced AGAIN so I’m now on my third phone. I’ve had it for two days the problem came back and when I restarted my phone the fix lasted for less than an hour. I AM OVER IT. Thankfully I now have an Apple Watch so I can still see the time and notifications there. Very disappointed.
I had same issue , time was not displaying on lock screen and even notification was not coming.
I found the work around which working fine for me so far, see if it helps you as well

The workaround for this issue (atleast I’m doing this for over a week) is to clear all old notifications each day. It looks like the screen crashes when too many notifications are being held in memory.
