Black screen with loading bar after logging in (High Sierra)

After upgrading to High Sierra, sometimes when i log in and enter my password after a restart, the screen turns black and only the loading bar is visible. I can see my background behind the loading bar but everything else is black (it's clearly not intended to be black).

Tried to format the computer completely and reinstall the os but the problem persists. I'm using a late 2013 macbook pro 15" retina (GT 750M GPU).

I had this problem too, turns out it was a GPU driver update issue. I do not know if this applies to your specific model of MacBook Pro, but it might. I downloaded the drivers from the following two links and it now only shows my background image rather than the odd black screen with progress bar:

NVIDIA CUDA 9.0 for Mac OSX Drivers 9.0.197

Quadro & GeForce macOS Driver Release: 378.10.10.10.15.114 - for High Sierra

This will also install an updater for the Quadro/GeForce part of the mix (not CUDA) even though I have historically always updated these manually in the past.

If you have other graphics cards installed in your computers, check the original manufacturer's website for drivers.

Can you be more specific about what did they say to you?

I have a MacBook pro retina late 2013 running an NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M. I'm having these issues for over 2 months now.

When i switch OSX driver to Nvidia web driver I get Screen blackouts (it happens a lot while surfing the internet or when using HDMI connection). I did all the updates, I'm currently on:

Cuda driver version : 387.99

GPU driver version: 378.10.10.10.25.102

OSX 10.13.2

I am so disappointed in Apple in the recent months, so many bugs ( not even mentioning my iPhone 7plus freezing like a 100 euro phone.)

Which Nvidia web driver? I couldn't find it at the website of Nvidia...the driver is built in osx.

Reinstall osx and your laptop works smooth.

The webdriver was not a good way to fix your laptop...i think...

I can confirm, I just upgraded to High Sierra on a 15" Macbook Pro (2014) with FileVault enabled and I'm having the same issue.

The problem still persists.
Hopefully this will be fixed in the next update...

High Sierra is shaping up to be a buggy mess, for me at least.
