disappointed and advice needed

On January 2nd, I contacted applecare about the flickering issue that many MacBook users have been dealing with. I also had a line running across my screen leaving half of the screen darker than the other. Anyway, I called in, a box was sent to me, I sent my computer off and was so excited to see that it took LESS THAN A DAY TO FIX MY COMPUTER, but I was also taken back that it took such a short time, I was worried that my computer wouldn't be fixed when I got it back....

I received it on January 8th.....turned it on, and a few minutes after starting.......THE FLICKERING STARTED......and later on that evening, the wicked line came back...

This morning, I called apple and I have to sent my computer back. What an inconvience!! Is anyone else having this problem with getting the same issue fixed?

What if I send my computer in and I get it back, and its not fixed.....again?

I guess the advice I need is to even send it in or not.....should I just live with the issue, it's obviously not affecting the way my computer runs, its just irritating to the eyes.

Someone, anyone, tell me what you'd do. And, if anyone else is having problems getting this issue fixed, please let me know...

I'm so disappointed, I could cry...

I don't think you should just put up with the issue. Your eyes are important, be nice to them. Unfortunately, there aren't too many other options, you're going to have to deal with AppleCare. If they can't fix the issue this time, keep sending it in and complaining until the issue is taken care of (eventually Apple may just opt to replace the unit).

Its frustrating, but you'll be happier with a working notebook, instead of a flickering one.

Hi,
since Apple uses the consumer as the last quality check meaning they sell incompletely tested products: KEEP TAKING IT BACK UNTIL IT IS RIGHT!! That's why they cost more, isn't it? Basically Apple is an American company and like other American companies, their goal is to make money. So let's help them out to not be like American car companies which sell crap. Probably half or more of the products they sell are defective and they are playing the odds nobody will notice or do anything about it. Sure, they hire nice people but are they going to go home with you and make sure everything is right? No. Take it back! I'm gonna go down to Pixar and wait for Steve to come out in his Rolls Royce so I can give him a piece of my mind!

User uploaded file(read)ytolearn, that is a completely irrational response. Half are defective?? Only American companies want to make money?? RIIIIGHT! Let's be serious and not fly off the handle here. It helps no one.

Abigail, I am not an Apple apologist, but let's keep this in perspective. Apple has world-class customer service and support. I know it is dissappointing to have a problem and to send it in once, and it is not too much to expect it to come back fixed. I too would be dissappointed to have to send it back again, but give Apple a chance. There are things worth crying over, but this is certainly not one of them.

User uploaded fileNo need to be rude. I never claimed to know everything, so I don't know where you got that from. I just apply a little common sense to what I read here.

Looking at these forums tells you that people with problems with their Macs have found these forums - nothing more. These forums are for technical support, so everyone here has a problem with their Macs of one sort or another. Using your faulty logic, 100% of Macs are defective.

I don't need to tell anyone that this is so obviously untrue that it boggles the mind to think that any intelligent person would consider this to be anywhere near the realm of possibility.

According to reliable reports from places like MacInTouch, the number for MacBooks is 8.7% - probably too high, but a far cry from your irresponsible 50%.

If you want to be personal, this is not the place. If you want to spread completely irresponsible rumors, again this is not the place.

If you want to get help from people who care about the platform and volunteer their time to help others - this is the place.

You're wrong on 2 counts.

"Steve to come out in his Rolls Royce so I can give him a piece of my mind"
I think he drives a Mercedes.

"Probably half or more of the products they sell are defective and they are playing the odds nobody will notice or do anything about it."
"50 percent is not accurate-it could be more"

Wrong again. If you are judging defects, problems and complaints from any manufacturer's "bulletin board" seriously you need to get out more.

call applecare and ask them to transfer you to customer servie...then proceed to tell them of how big of an inconviniece this was to you and will continue to be as the issue is not fixed. Then ask nicely if you could be compensated with a sleeve or connector or something

i send my 30 gig photo ipod in and got it back with a 20gig harddrive. i called customer service and ask them to upgrade it to a 30gig video. they did.

I didn't mean to cause such an uproar over this..

I sent my computer back this morning, I really hope this gets taken care of. Maybe I will call and ask for something in return....but all I really want is a fixed computer.

But everyone needs to chill out....lol, no need to get mad at eachother!

I'll let you all know the update when I get it back...let's all cross our fingers!

Btw, I wasn't really going to cry about it...it just sounded good to say..

Cheer up everyone!

For what it's worth I and my family are very satisfied Mac users now for over 4 years.
Our first mac was a IMAC 15" gooseneck model that my daughter wanted which I bought 4 years ago and other than a new keyboard (spilled drinks)we have had nothing wrong with it and it works as good now as it ever did.

That was our first mac and it sold me on replacing my windows machine when it crapped out so I went out and bought a 17" refurb powerbook G4 6 months later for myself (it is now over 3 years old) and have never had a problem with it and never had any repair issues. I use it everyday for my music and photo and video collections and have made a great website with Iweb where I can share my photos with family and friends. I love how there software works so well with the hardware. It has worked great for the since I bought it except for the battery which may be wearing out as it won't hold a charge long.

Then I bought a Ibook 12" for my other daughter a year and half ago and it also has worked well although it did have to have 2 logic boards put in one which was self inflicted damage from a glass of water spillled in it although apple coverd the repair under warranty and then my daughter caught her foot on the power cord and yanked it off the desk and it survived a fall to the floor although the hinge is bent it doesn't close exactly right but it still works. The second logic board was installed from apple care and failed for no apparent reason but we got it back in under a week.

Then my oldest daughter started college and we bought her a new macbook which had overheating problems within the first 2 months and sent it out to apple and they repaired it no problem and she got it back a week later and it has worked fine since.

I recently bought my wife a new macbook for christmas and it developed a problem with random rebooting issues for no reason and also not awaking from sleep mode. I called apple on it and as it was less than 30 days since we bought it they gave me a choice of a new one or repair.
We chose new replacement one and I just shipped out the old one yesterday and expect the new one to ship back to by next week.

So all in all we have had very little problems with Apple macs and whene we did they handled the problem very quickly and effectively. It does seem that these new macbooks are having a few new model syndrome problems but all in all I would not hesitate to buy another mac.
We love macs in our family and will stay with them as long as they continue to make them!
I love the fact that Apples do not become obselete as fast as windows pc's do and my 17" G4 powerbook is a testiment to this.

This is the first mac computer I have had. My family, more my father than anyone, is a firm believer in Dells, or PC's in general. Overall, I am very satisfied with my Macbook, and I wouldn't trade it in for anything else. I enjoy the speed of it, the programs I can buy for it. This is the first time I've had a problem with Applecare or the computer, really. I had the issue of discoloration on the wristpad, but sent it in and got it back with a quickness and it came back with a new casing and such.

I just checked, and my repair is in progress. I'm hoping, and crossing my fingers that everything will be fixed and my computer will be like new when I get it back. Like I said, I'll keep updating as I know info.

Cheers,
Abigail

I am currently on my second Macbook. My first one was replaced after two repair attempts for different issues. After receiving my second Macbook, I had about 400 pixels stuck on the color red, so I mailed it off for a repair which fixed the problem. However, the display on my Macbook recently began to flicker as you described.

I called up Apple and demanded (calmly) another replacement. After being on the phone for over 2 hours, they agreed to replace my Core Duo Macbook to the new Core 2 Duo Macbooks! And they also agreed to upgrade my memory from 512mb to 1 gig for my troubles!

So far, my experience with apple care has been pretty good (except for the hold times), I just hope that my 3rd Macbook is a keeper. I just mailed my current one off for replacement yesterday, so hopefully next week I'll finally get a perfect Macbook.

My advice is to ask for Customer Relations. Customer Relations is where it's at. They are the one's who have all the pull. Call Apple Care and ask to be connected to Customer Relations. That is what I have done for both of my replacements. Be calm, yet assertive, and they will ususally be willing to work with you.

Good luck!

I'm on hold with Customer Relations as I type. I'm hoping they can either replace my computer or give me something for such an inconvience. My dream would be to get a Core Duo 2, how'd you do it? This is the third time I've had to send my computer, second time within ONE week. It isn't that big of a deal, just an inconvience. I've said all this before. But I don't think I can stress it enough. Anyway, thanks for the advice on calling Customer Relations. I'll let you know what happens. Maybe....just maybe...I'll get myself a new computer!

Wish me luck!
