disappointed and advice needed

On January 2nd, I contacted applecare about the flickering issue that many MacBook users have been dealing with. I also had a line running across my screen leaving half of the screen darker than the other. Anyway, I called in, a box was sent to me, I sent my computer off and was so excited to see that it took LESS THAN A DAY TO FIX MY COMPUTER, but I was also taken back that it took such a short time, I was worried that my computer wouldn't be fixed when I got it back....

I received it on January 8th.....turned it on, and a few minutes after starting.......THE FLICKERING STARTED......and later on that evening, the wicked line came back...

This morning, I called apple and I have to sent my computer back. What an inconvience!! Is anyone else having this problem with getting the same issue fixed?

What if I send my computer in and I get it back, and its not fixed.....again?

I guess the advice I need is to even send it in or not.....should I just live with the issue, it's obviously not affecting the way my computer runs, its just irritating to the eyes.

Someone, anyone, tell me what you'd do. And, if anyone else is having problems getting this issue fixed, please let me know...

I'm so disappointed, I could cry...

I was able to get a Core 2 Duo because when they send out replacements, they just order you a new one, it is built, and then mailed to you. I imagine they don't produce Macbook's with the regular Core Duo anymore. So, I would think that all replacements from here on out will have the Core 2 Duo. It isn't anymore expensive, so Apple isn't losing money on it (except the money on the replacement), so if you get a replacement, you will probably get the Core 2 Duo. Let us know.

I don't understand sending it back a million times. Apparently, from what I am reading on this board, the Apple techs aren't fixing it right or don't know how to fix a problem. I would talk to a supervisor or manager higher up in customer support and tell them about these Macbook issues.

1). There is no reason to keep on re- installing the OS to fix a problem.
2). There is no reason to send it back more than once for the same problem.

This is something that concerns me as well. I'm very close to purchasing a Macbook, but from what I read on this forum people send their Macbooks in for repair once, twice, three times and seem to be ok with that! I'm sorry, but I've never had to send a PC laptop in for anything, I can't imagine subscribing to the flippant attitude that some seem to have which is simply to send it back and wait for a replacement, etc. I dont' have an Apple store anywhere within 300 miles of me and so my only option, if I run into a problem, will be to send it in. From all the problems I've been seeing, discoloration, loud fans, reboots, flicker display problems, cracks in the casing, and my past problems with my ipods (all defective) I'm beginning to worry about purchasing an Apple product.

Don't forget this is a message board for people with problems or questions which for the most part are in the minority!

By and large there are hundreds of thousands of macs sold each year and only low percentage have glitches. You have to put it in perspective!

Like I said in my previous post I have had a G4 powerbook going on 4 years now with never one single problem and also it runs all the new software from Apple and others with little problem. Granted it might boot up slower and run a programs a little slower but it still works great and is not obselete yet like a windows PC would be and not to mention the windows PC would be loaded with viruses by now and probably have had a few reinstalls of the operating system!

Of course I did have a problem with my wife's macbook but they took it back with my word that it did what I say it did and didn't have to have it checked out first. They simple asked me would I like to try a repair or replacement. I went with the replacement with the hope that the newer models have more of any potentials bugs worked out. My refurb powerbook was probably a problem mac when it was new and returned to Apple and then they went through it and put it up for sale as a refurb. Like I said I have never had a problem with since the day I got it 3 or so years ago!

I say give it a shot and go for it!
Once you go MAC you never go back!

You have to understand also that you are reading a board that people only come to complain about things. I'm very happy with my Macbook, and honestly, Applecare Techs are always friendly and willing to help you. It really doesn't take that long to send and recieve items back from Apple and then shipping is great. Don't hesitate to buy anything!

I contacted Customer Relations and they said at this time, no replacement could be made. The man I spoke to did give me his direct number and told me to call him if when I receive my computer and the issue is still there, he would look into a replacement for me.

And, I just checked my status on my repair and it says that the repair is complete and return is pending. Again, only taking one day to fix the computer is worring me, does that worry anyone else?

So...with that...I'm waiting on my computer to get back to me.

Cheers!

You lost your data because you didn't make a backup not because of your defective computer. You need to suck it up and go back the store or call Applecare, otherwise it's nobody's fault but your own if you don't get your computer replaced or repaired. Perhaps your Mommy can help you with those mean old Apple people.

Rude? Maybe. Correct? Absolutely!

It often takes a disaster such as you have experienced to wake a user up to backing up their data. Any electronic device can fail at any time for no apparent reason and any data associated with it will be lost if you don't have a backup of that data. Assuming your machine will be repaired or replaced IT WILL FAIL AGAIN at some point. That point may be tomorrow or it may be ten years form now but IT WILL FAIL. And if you haven't backed up your data YOU WILL LOSE IT AGAIN.

I have data on my current machine that dates back to 1982 (from the Apple II days and converted to current data formats). I have multiple backups of this data stored in multiple locations. Important data, such as family pictures, financial data, email, etc. MUST be backed up if you are to have any hope of keeping that data over time. Over long periods of time you must also migrate that data to current formats and storage mediums. My father made recordings (he was a pianist) in the 1940's on a wire recorder, which is a device that stored the recording on a spool of stainless steel wire. No such devices exist anymore except for those in audiophile collections. It took me a long time but I found someone who had a working device and was able to move the "data" to a modern compact disc. Since compact discs are not indestructible I maintain multiple copies of this CD in a safe place so I don't lose the "data". When the time comes I will move the data to whatever the storage medium of the time.

Back your data up if you want to keep it, if it's important to you.

As I said, backing up data is important. Computers are basically file cabinets and their main job is to store files. Yes, manipulating the files is another purpose but if the files are not protected, you are vulnerable to losing them. Museums are another form of storage and in their case they cannot make "back-ups". Take advantage of computers-to make back-ups.
Sometimes people try to be funny and they sound rude. They expose themselves so don't be hurt by someone's inadequate sense of humor. Good luck.
