iPhone calendar freezes in IOS 11
When adding an event in calendar, if you try to add a location, the screen locks up and you have to force close the app. I have done a complete reset and download of IOS 11 and still have the problem.

I had this exact same problem. I have an iPhone 7 Plus with iOS 11.0.2. (I tried everything - worked with Apple Support, Senior Advisors, Genius Bar and nothing worked).
I think I discovered how to fix the issue on my own. At least it worked for me. I noticed that whether I typed a letter or a number as the first character in the location field, it took a long time to populate the choices below (addresses, places, etc.). I thought maybe it had something to do with the Contacts data on my iPhone and that maybe there was an indexing issue. Here are the steps I took which resolved the problem for me:
I suggest being on WiFi for this process:
1. Go to Settings / Accounts & Passwords.
2. Under Accounts, select each Account to see which ones have Contacts turned on.
3. If you use Work (Exchange), this likely the issue. Turn off Contacts. When you see the message “Are you sure you want to continue? All exchange contacts will be removed from your iPhone.” Select “Delete from my iPhone”.
4. You will see a message “Turning off Contacts.” Once that is completed, turn Contacts back on. You will see a message “What would you like to do with existing local contacts on your iPhone?” Select “Keep on my iPhone”.
5. You will see another message “If you keep your current contacts on your iPhone, you may see duplicate entries. Are you sure you want to continue?” Select “Keep on my iPhone”. The reason you want to do this is that you may have created other contacts on your iPhone locally that are not in Exchange, so you don’t want to lose them.
6. Let the iPhone sync your contacts from Exchange. If you have a lot (I have almost 4,000), it will take some time (which is why I suggested being on WiFi). I suggest turning off your Auto-Lock (Settings/Display & Brightness/Auto-Lock/Never, then open the Contacts app (you’ll see the contacts populating) until all contacts are synced.
7. Then try creating a new Calendar item and type a location.
8. If you still see the problem, repeat the process with any other Accounts that have Contacts turned on (see Steps 1&2).
Let us know if this works for you.
The only workaround I found is to complete the location information in notes, and then cut & paste it in to location block.
It seems more of these types of failures are more common instead of less common with each ios upgrade.
Many of the Apple apps are very disappointing failures instead of getting better.
Mine shuts down too. I contacted Apple and a high level tech support told me that Apple engineers are aware of the problem and they should release an update soon. But the total truth I’m not very happy at all because the updates can come days, weeks or months time.
The only way that I’ve got round this problem is to use Siri to write in the addresses which seems to work fine.
Other than that the only solution they said is to reinstall IOS as a new user and then reinstall to my original but as I can see from other peoples threads that this way hasn’t worked.
Having wasted hours on the hapless performance of the Calendar in particular, I switched to using a Microsoft Account Calendar and Contacts Sync to my iPhone and so far so good. It grieves me to say it but I’m warming to the idea that more focus takes place on selling unquestionably excellent hardware at significant cost and high markup than creating and developing software that it deserves. As stated previously, the Calendar and Contacts must be one of the highest used apps that most IOS users need. If Apple can’t get these to work well, it doesn’t bode well for ‘lesser’ apps. I’m really very disappointed and annoyed that my substantial investment over the years of Apple hardware has not been rewarded by applications commensurate with said investment.
I deleted the app and reinstalled and it is working!!!
This work-around actually worked on my IPad Air2! I only need to type in a single “z” and then it will let me type in the actual location. You then have to remove the original “z” from the beginning in the location field. A bit of a pain, but until Apple acknowledges it and fixes it, at least it Is a viable work-around. Thanks!
I totally agree. Apple needs to address this ASAP. It’s a major in the cab and a workaround is not the same as a resolution. I have found that using a lowercase z with a space after it works just as well and is easier to backspace out.
Thank you for your efforts and letting us know your progress with the issue. I already have the Google Calendar app on my iPhone X so I will use that to add locations on my appointments. I have also tried copying the full address from my contacts or the internet and pasting into the iPhone calendar location. Although annoying, that works to bypass the long delay. In my case it lasts minutes, not just seconds.
Hey I saw your response.
The new upgrade ISO 11.2. Fine but it still freezes.
The only way I’ve got around this in the address is two instead of importing this to write using Siri. This is the only way is putting in Zz don’t work very well for me.
I have this issue on my iOS 7 phone and my iPad Pro. Just purchased the new 10” iPad Pro. Same problem. Apple support says it is a known issue and they are working to resolve the problem, but no expected date for resolution.
I’m going to return my new iPad until they get the software working. I consider this a major flaw. Not like Apple to have buggie software .
Ok. So as I promised, i brought IT's from London to work on the IOS 11 problem.
We had over 8 iPhones X's, 8's and 7's, iPads and iPods.
Sim cards from different service providers, from different countries all on UNLOCK both GSM and CDMA devices.
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
The Good is that we discover that 1 of the iPhones was a faulty device that would had the problem with Calendars (unless you disable Contacts, but also that iPhone X, would choke when in Setting>General>iPhone Storage, it would make a "stop and go" as you were scrolling down. We changed Sim Cards, Apple ID's, and all the same problem on 1 specific device. We emptied the phone and set it up as new, only with the apps it comes from factory. Same both problems, choking in scrolling and Calendar dead unless you deactivate the contacts. Changed the SIM cards, created a new Apple ID and that specific iPhone is a brick.
We worked on all the other more than 12 devices and after deleting apps, creating new ID's and trying basically all possibilities with apps that we considered that cause conflict of location, privacy, notifications etc we all came to the conclusion after having started to work at 10:30 AM with a dinner break at 7 for 2 hours and now being 2:00 AM the problem is in the Apple Cloud, specifically in Calendars conflicting with Contacts and Locations because it is not only searching in the device but ALL over the internet.
The interesting thing is that ONLY and ONLY when you dictate or talk to the IOS devices with IOS 11 and its updates, location in calendar works which makes us think that when the IOS 11 was design, all IOS being tactile, then therefore, there is a glitch very, very hidden and powerful that conflicts with both, the devices and the Cloud.
Having said that, we believe that as much as iCloud is not bad, the problem is not up there but all system 11 has be restart from scratch and meanwhile use TimePage form Moleskine (which by the way has a very beautiful UI and wait until in Cupertino they solve this big issue. Or use Siri, or "zz".
Don't migrate to Gmail or Outlook, one of the guys was working on this "solution and the setting up, the interface and everything that involves migrating doesn't pay.
Maybe Apple an buy Moleskine code and just integrated into the Cloud and into what i'm afraid will be IOS 12 if they continue to fight a problem that over 20 thousand people have been working for over a month and a half with no results.
So the Bad can be solved with a very simple and good solution and Apple would kill two birds with one stone. Making the X work and having once and for all a beautiful interface with no glitches and even maybe integrate Contacts to this Timepage Solution.
The Ugly, was to discover faulty products both in hardware as well akin software and that Apple is focusing in other things less important. There is no product in the stores and it was really a big mistake (we all concluded) not seeing in person the new iMac Pro, the delay of the HomePod and not admitting in public that they have a problem.
There is my description, findings and solutions. Hope someone in Apple will pay attention.
Don’t get too exited. The problem is there.
For 4.99 download Timepage. This is the only work around.
Apple will not recognize any problem until a 17 year old kid exposes them about Apple cheating with batteries or other things.
Not the same company.
Incredible amount of mistakes and arrogance.
Don’t migrate to Outlook and or Gmail. More cumbersome and Timepage works fantastic and the UI is a pleasure.
Wish Apple had this kind of designers both in taste as well as in knowledge.
Let’s wait for IOS 13 or 15. Maybe then...

What's happening is the application wants to pull up a location that you have already used or is in your contacts list. The more you put a location in the calendar, the longer the list is that it has to search through. That's why some people have it and some don't. Some people don't put the location in their calendar event. Apple search funtionality ***** and that's why this application doesn't work well. There should just be a way to turn off the application trying to AutoFill. I would rather put in the location fresh each time rather that have my operating system lock up while it tries to find a previously used address.
It's not about not using apple anymore as some have suggested, it's about Apple not having the ability to properly test their software and it's about Apple's Q&A. That's the issue here.

If you are suggesting that I should be active in sorting the issue out with Apple customer support, I think the responsibility to fix things once detected (months ago) lies with the multi-billion dollar corporation and not its user community. Just like in all other industries.
Apple can't help you fix your problem unless you talk to them. As this is a problem experienced by a small number of users, it's unlikely that Apple has much data on it. Remember, they are not reading these forums. So, if you want Apple to help you, you have to let them know you have a problem. You can use the Contact Support link at the top right of every page of these forums.
It appears that IOS 11 locks up when an address is being added to an appointment because the device is trying to scan the entire address book looking for a match to the first letter of the address. This is why entering “Z” shortens the lock up duration. Apple, can you lighten up on the predictive spelling until you work out the details? The unintended consequence is a longer wait instead of a shorter one. Thanks.
Mine is working fine but several others have reported problems similar to yours. Try the following:
Delete the Calendar App and download it again from the App Store.
