Embedded links from Mail doesn't open on Chrome browser ( which is default)

When clicking on the links in the email message, the browser window opens but the url is not copied to the address bar and nothing opens.

Why must I use a new account? Any other options?

I updated Chrome (by going to the ... menu > help > about Google Chrome). The updater said I was "almost" up to date and asked me to relaunch the browser. Once I relaunched, the links from mail work just fine.
